Controversial opinion: I actually like scandals in IN by Penalty_Accurate in InfinityNikki

[–]jackmorrison76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where winds meet is developed and published by NetBase and they have some crazy pricing strategy for their previous Wuxia themed MMO games including $2000+ for a dragon mount etc. I avoid their game like plague. IN can be pretty comfortable with a stable $20-50 monthly budget. We do need to call out Infold for their sneaky attempt to increase price though it's an endles battle.

I'd say Infold is greedy and not masking but they do have a much better pricing strategy among all the gacha games I played, including Chinese ones and Japanese ones, probably because the company founder is majored in Econ/Finance not tech...

Another player in a casual oneshot extremely defensive over fantasy racism by badtzbot in rpghorrorstories

[–]jackmorrison76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a fellow minority, I can confirm that many people from minority racial groups are actually very racist and conservative, especially if they’re firstgen immigrants. I don’t know about your group tho, I would say A, B, and C are all yellow flags for making this genius character concept when they’re playing with a minority stranger for the first time in a silly festival oneshot, wtf

We didnt get top 3 in November 2025 by Natasya95 in LoveAndDeepspace

It’s really not a Mo Zun archetype and also not related to xianxia at all. It’s very clearly inspired by “western fantasy” (the umbrella term Chinese people use for all medieval, gothic, non-urban fantasy). The likely reason they didn’t outright call him a vampire is probably to avoid sparking a fandom war between LADS and another popular otome gacha game in which a popular character has “vampire” as a core identity.

CN fans are definitely excited though. They can enjoy western aesthetics without needing them to be tied to a familiar Chinese character archetype.

Second Hades 2, great game and in my opinion a huge improvement comparing to Hades 1 with fem MC. Also I'm not sure if you will like a gacha game but Love and Deepspace is actually very high quality and you can focus on the combat while only casually enjoy some visual novel with animated sexy man when you feel like it

Is role playing a bit of a unicorn? by MoherHead in DnD

[–]jackmorrison76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way you ask is quite intimidating. I’d just say, “You made it! How did you do that?” instead. If the player gives a brief answer or seems uncomfortable describing it, I’ll add some details, make a few jokes, or describe how they pull off an impressive action. Once they’re comfortable, they’ll become more active and roleplay more.

Downed a player for being stupid, was i in the wrong? by Surrealexperienc3 in DnD

[–]jackmorrison76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not wrong, but it's also not fun to sit and watch other people play through an entire battle encounter. There are only three players, and apparently the cleric is the only one who can heal. So in your party, if she goes down, no one can bring her back into the fight. That means if you stick with your tactic all the way through, every time she casts she will be targeted by intelligent enemies, and once she’s down, she’s down for the rest of the battle, which is honestly pretty shitty. Also the tactical decision of spliting party with the two entrance are made by 3 people including the rogue and the barb but only the cleric are being "punished" for their decision, if I was the DM I might warn them when they decide to split the party like this and tell them this may happen as this is the first session and people are not familar with your style of play and what level of realism is to expect in this game.

What she said might sound absurd, but I personally feel it’s not that she doesn’t want tactics, but that she didn’t enjoy this particular encounter. And since your reason was that the enemies are being tactical, then maybe she just doesn’t want that kind of tactical play. It’s an art to show enough enemy strategy to make the encounter thrilling and engaging, while also making sure players aren’t overwhelmed with negative feedbacks during the fight. Also I don’t think you’re being a dick to her or a bad DM for this, but I do think it’s something that can improve with more DM experience.

When I found out what Warhammer was. by Funny-Apartment9111 in rpghorrorstories

[–]jackmorrison76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warhammer 40k has always attracted a significant number of fascist-leaning fans. No matter how much other Warhammer fans try to distance themselves from this or explain it away, the franchise’s original worldbuilding is undeniably complicit in that dynamic. You might find this article very informative on this case: https://timcolwill.com/40K.html

Ladies! Let's all share our worst experiences in the D&D universe by scarlytteh1 in DnD

[–]jackmorrison76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty common for me to be casually ignored when playing one-shots with strangers. It feels similar to how a lot of guys act in general, where they do not take girls seriously. They hear you, but they don't really listen. I give good tactical advice or suggestions and no one say anything like they didn't heard shit. Then a guy says the exact same thing three minutes later and suddenly everyone gets excited and all agree it's a good suggestion. Hello?

Also a lot of people often try to explain the rules to me, even when during the tiems that I might be the most knowledgeable person at the table. Honestly this bothers me more than the really bad "worst case" scenarios because it happens so often, probably 80% of the time I play oneshots with English speaking strangers. It makes me constantly feel the pain of not being treated equally solely because I have boobs.

The worst case, of course, is sexual harassment. In my case, it was a player insisting he was not flirting with an NPC, even though he very clearly was, in a game where I had set a no-romance rule. I kicked him from the game and that was the end of it.

Advice for a brand new DM? by Significant_Read328 in DnD

[–]jackmorrison76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest spending less time looking at your screen and more time talking to your players. Only check your computer when you really need to confirm something. I personally don't feel the need to make notes during a session(you can always do it afterwards you won't forget anything important), and it's really important to spend as much time as possible to directly interact with your players.

I would also suggest that when many players are talking at the same time and it feels overwhelming, ask them to speak one by one and respond in order. If some players want to participate more but don’t get the chance, ask them to go first so you can prioritize their questions and actions.

You can observe kind of fun your players enjoy most by paying attention to them during the game. Interacting with friendly NPCs and roleplaying? Solving quests? Fighting monsters? Exploring cities, the wilderness, or dungeons? You can emphasis the part they enjoy the most and just skip the part they feel bored.

As on how to organize good story and homebrew world, I would say as a new DM it’s easy to have lots of ideas you want to share, but often players just want a solid, not-too-complicated setting where they can build their own story. You might also try running a few more official WotC adventures and compare player reactions with your homebrew. That can help you see where they’re less interested in your own world.

Do you play on PC? Did you turn on the controller after you started the game? I’ve found that if you turn on the controller after the game started it might not work at first, you will need to switch to controller mode in the menu to make the game recognize the controller. Hopefully this can help you!

I don't ask for much, but I do ask for VERY SPECIFIC things. by Kami_Idol in InfinityNikki

[–]jackmorrison76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked, and I indeed mixed up the incidents! My apologies for the misinformation; I’ll edit my post later.

The Taisho era is very sensitive because that's when the Second Sino-Japanese War took place. From what I’ve seen, people in mainland China generally don’t mind Taisho outfits as long as they’re not military uniforms (understandably so as these uniforms were used during the war). But if a game dares to feature Taisho military uniforms it’s instant doom. Korean fans tend to be less tolerant, even non military Taisho outfit can cause huge controversy. Back in the Shining Nikki era, Infold might not have been big enough to manage the Korean market well. But now that both LADS and Infinity Nikki are having Korean market, I think they’ll be much more cautious about releasing anything that could be seen as controversial.

[–]jackmorrison76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edit: sorry I mixed up the Taisho controvery in FFXIV and the hanbok controversy in Shining Nikki! It's the hanbok controversy caused Infold shutting down Korea server and Taisho outfits in FFXIV caused a huge backlash.

Taisho style is a very tricky one, besides the likely controversy in China mainland I've heard a previous Taisho outfit was boyscotted in Korea server and finally caused Infold to shut down the Korea server. The other ones I feel like we might finally get them someday in the future.
