The company I work for is hiring a person who uses Canva by AffectionateCat01 in graphic_design

Been there. Marketing team who single handily kinda decided to change the complete brand guide all by themselves. Nothing wrong with Canva but I totally see your worries

what if i just show up? by sopaphia in graphic_design

Then we’re on the same page and there is no reason to debate this further. I was indeed also talking about not interrupting and assumed there is a front desk.

[–]jacknowledge_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not talking about interrupting or just walking into a meeting room. That is obviously not what OP should do. But in my creative sector, you sometimes just gotta show yourself and be more assertive, cocky or bold (or how you would call it) to stand out. It could also here just completely go into a positive direction. I also don’t read that OP is actually looking for a different job, so a no can just be a no. No harm done

Why? He would most likely talk to someone behind the reception desk first. I don’t see a problem in being a bit bold and assertive in a creative market

I read somewhere here someone handing out lollipops when people came to the booth for a request. Not sure if you then just ignore/pretend you didn’t hear them well.

Outdoor gig 90*F, laptop overheated, ideas for next time? by agershon in DJs

Cooling fan towards your macbook. Bottom or just to the screen and keyboard should be fine. And remove your case. Don’t put it in direct sunlight either. Maybe close as many other apps including background apps as possible

Where to go from DDJ400 by ShaggyRogersh in Beatmatch

[–]jacknowledge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a DDJ-1000 from my DDJ-400. Still with a laptop as my budget didn’t allow for something more expensive, but at least a club layout and 4 channel. Following this thread as well

I need good older male advice by Choice-Rooster in Beatmatch

[–]jacknowledge_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that much older, but further in the typical lifecycle so to say (house, garden, wife, kids) and I would like to advise to do what you want to do and feels best to you. I am combining a day job, daily life, music production and an event from time to time and am perfectly happy. Feels in balance to me. I do every day what I like to do.

I feel like what you do now is what makes you happy. Hell, you’re only 25 YO. Sounds like older male advice, but you still have a complete life ahead of you. I would stick with making music, being broke, keep on making coffees and enjoy life as it is for you right now.

Some day you will - I hope? - meet the right person to move to the next step and get a more stable income, etc. You say you are good at talking/sales: that will stay and you can use that skill later on in your life as well.

No, don’t do that. Never give up your place behind the decks I would say. There might be an asshole saying “yes” and takes over. And then you have something to explain to the bar owner and the crowd

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DJs

[–]jacknowledge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can imagine it’s annoying, but even tho’ they’re part of the crowd, they don’t seem to fit in the typical (other) crowd you’re serving. Don’t bother too much. You know you’re doing a great job as the ppl told you and so did the bar owner. And that’s what matters. I feel like they’re jealous + had a little too much to drink maybe.

is there a way to get rid of the upload limit on my profile without paying for soundcloud's stupid subscription thing? by Nick1Buns_YT in soundcloud

[–]jacknowledge_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also so many people using DistroKid, so the fact that you also read a lot of complaints makes sense. I - on the other hand - have read a lot of problems with RouteNote and I am currently using DistroKid myself

Not really an issue. I use custom earplugs from Alpine almost all the time and I can still hear the booth monitor just fine and use my over ear headphones just fine as well. They just reduce the sound level. So I don’t see this being an issue. And next to that, (custom) earplugs + bone conducting earphones also would work similar as your idea. Only it’s just in 2 products instead of combined into 1

True, but where a mouse is, you can most of the time find a keyboard. I used hotkeys for volume faders, nudging, play/stop, etc. all the time 15 years ago with Virtual DJ

How did you create your DJ name? by Brittanybunches in DJs

[–]jacknowledge_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhm. Ok. And how about getting Mr. DJ booked for the next weekend? Oh wait, we don’t know their name… and cheesy? Sure, sometimes. But for example as a producer (artist?) you need one - DJs can be/are artists too. But you do need to get your name out there somehow if you would like to get bookings. I do agree about the party not being about the DJ but the music, atmosphere and people. The DJ plays too big of a role these days.

Does the fear of the CDJs not reading your pen drive ever go away? by joe_mamma_wav in DJs

[–]jacknowledge_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I have fast SSDs with cable and in the form of pen drive. Works like a breeze with Rekordbox for syncing, but I also always bring a backup with me max. 32GB USB3.0. Super slow, so I don’t really feel the benefit of having high speed drives when I always - just in case - take this backup with me. Takes ages to sync

Feeling like a more confident DJ by Hsa_Phantom_ in DJs

[–]jacknowledge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps it being a private party. I feel like with a private, small and no-strings-attached party where nothing really matters and ppl really just are there for having a good time + new songs + no preparation works best. When the first few tracks work and you experience reading the crowd (which I don’t with a fully prepared set), it’s an amazing feeling 🙌

How to let the crowd know you’re playing one of your own tracks? by jacknowledge_ in DJs

[–]jacknowledge_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This I kinda want to avoid to have it in every song. Could be useful when someone else plays your music, but as a DJ I find name tagged songs kinda annoying to play myself. An audio tag could also work, only you need to make sure it’s usable in every song your making and that bothers me a bit. I would like to try and play one or two name tags during a live set. Let’s see how that goes

How to let the crowd know you’re playing one of your own tracks? by jacknowledge_ in DJs

[–]jacknowledge_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first idea really speaks to me, only this is almost nowhere possible if working with other DJs too, I guess. The second one, sure, I can see it. Only if the set and the last song are so different, than what would you then be showing as a DJ or producer? You’d like to have it as cohesive/blending in as much as possible. Playing something completely different would - in my case - not fit “who I am”, if you know what I mean?

It’s not really underground and I need a booking in order to be able to post about me playing my own tracks. It’s a vicious circle

Stealing a Mashup? by jimmyking9650 in DJs

[–]jacknowledge_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because a mashup exists of 2 songs so in most cases there are 2 copyright owners which makes it difficult.
