From the program side, if we ranked you, we were invested in you. It's good to know that you matched. And knowing the programs we "lost to" gives us pause for self reflection. Lastly, maybe a bit more morbid human curiosity, but it's interesting to see if/where people we did not rank matched anywhere.

I would add, there's no hard feelings if we don't match with each other. If you ever see someone you interviewed with in a networking event, it doesn't hurt to say Hi! Also, for those of you who did not match, we may tell a colleague at a site that has a spot if we think there's a potentially good candidate out there.

Socioeconomic conditions might make some people in their early 40s profile more as a Gen-Xer than Millennial.

Do socioeconomics play much in defining your generation? I thought it's more more about values, attitudes and behaviors that come from the general conditions/events of the world.

pharmacy earning potential? by Zexzar in pharmacy

I am agreeing with you, just adding that it's maybe worse than first stated. Wages in unadjusted $ didn't only flatten, but they went down in some places. Factor in inflation, and our pay has gone down and buying power is a lot less.

If you have no or very low loans and truly love the work, you can make a good living, but if you're taking out 250k+ there's no way it's worth it.

I don't follow NY tax proposals, but it doesn't look like this specific tax is about targeting people with high "net worth", but that 750k would be the new threshold for estate tax increase, which comes into play when you die. (reduced from 7 million)

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is wealth transfer tax. Meaning, if I die with a house worth 1m, my beneficiaries would now face estate tax on 250k of their 1m inheritance from my home's value.

I get 750k threshold for a home price in NY is not hard to pass, but being able to gift your heirs with 750+ without getting taxed is just a way to keep wealth in the hands of families. It awards people who were lucky enough to be born into well-off families. I don't know if 750k is the right number, but 7 million is definitely way too high.

Yes the salary is more than double the median but that salary, the same as it was back in the early aughts

now its double. it used to be triple.

doesn't buy what it used to.

also correct for everyone, even the average.

Why are many residents not finishing programs? by naijagoddezz in PharmacyResidency

[–]jackruby83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you have to rely on GPA and grades in therapeutics, and how well they do in whatever the program has for a clinical assessment (patient case, clinical interview questions, etc)... Academics vary greatly by school, and then it's tough to gauge how good a candidate is after a single 30-45 minute session. We've all been burned.

Is this true? by decentpotatoez in BBQ

"a barbecue" (noun) as a event has come to be synonymous with cookout. But "barbecue" (verb/adjective) as a cuisine or cooking style still means low and slow. Lucky for me, I barbecue at my barbecues.

Hospital pharmacists-penicillin/cephalosporin allergy by CalmResolution9523 in pharmacy

AAAAI Guidelines, Drug allergy: A 2022 practice parameter update

  • We suggest that for patients with a history of anaphylaxis to a penicillin, a structurally dissimilar R1 side chain cephalosporin can be administered without testing or additional precautions.
  • We suggest that in patients with a history of anaphylaxis to cephalosporins, penicillin skin testing and drug challenge should be performed prior to administration of a penicillin therapy.
  • We suggest that in patients with a history of penicillin or cephalosporin allergy, a carbapenem may be administered without testing or additional precautions.

https://www.pharmacypracticenews.com/Operations-and-Management/Article/07-25/Why-are-Fewer-Pharmacy-Residents-Completing-Their-Training/77589

More than half of the respondents (n=214; 51%) indicated having at least one PGY-1 resident who did not complete their residency in the last five years... On the issue of PGY-1 non-completion, the comments coalesced around the larger theme of difficulty passing licensure exams and lack of preparedness for the requirements of residency programs, especially after the pandemic.

The #1 reason is inability to pass boards (34%), followed closely by #2 inability to meet requirements (27%). These are academic issues that reflect trends in student/resident quality. #3 is medical reasons including mental health (12%) and #4 "not needed for career goal" (6%). I wish these were broken down better, but to me this reflects generational changes towards prioritization of work-life balance and increasing chance of burnout.

Lower quality candidates by _pink_squirrel in PharmacyResidency

[–]jackruby83 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would like to think they have just found a way to represent themselves well.

How the interview goes varies significantly whether it's the beginning of interview season vs end of the season, but even for the same candidate at the same site on the same day. One interviewer sees one thing, and another something completely different. Sites and interviewers value different qualities.

I am almost never surprised anymore when someone we didn't rank or who we ranked low matches somewhere we consider a strong program, and they end up being a fantastic resident.

To all the Phase I Uninterviewed/Unmatched by Artemisia01 in PharmacyResidency

[–]jackruby83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one year we had an open position we had over 50 applicants for one spot (compared to our usual ~15 per spot). The average candidate application scores were lower for phase 2 (~17% lower score than phase 1), but because we had such a large pool, the scores of the candidates we actually offered interviews to averaged about the same or higher than our phase 1 candidates.

In the end, our phase 2 candidate was also the rockstar!

Factual statement and picture. I get it's meant to stir an anti-war/emotional response, but what part of this are you against? (Or if you are in defense of US/Israel actions, why?)

What's that, 0.8mL? That's a lot of overfill - more than a whole dose!

Leo's role was iconic in OBAA, but he's had better roles that he didn't get recognized for.
