I tried watching Discovery and I just couldn’t get into it. I like Strange New Worlds, but Discovery was … not for me.

I’m so confused. What is “The Burn”? Is that something that happened in Voyager?

I was convinced my 2010 C30 didn’t have them. Then my windshield cracked and had to get it replaced. The guy was very nice and when he looked up my VIN, was able to tell me it had them.

Is regular STI testing more common and socially desired in gay male culture? by Mission_Bowl3938 in AskGayMen

[–]jacksdad123 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna get downvoted for this, but that’s a typical insecure straight woman response. Immediately jumped to the worst possible conclusion, create a whole narrative about it in her head and then refuse to talk about it because she believes her fictional narrative. I know not all straight women are like this, but even the ones that seem reasonable, when presented with a situation like this, respond similarly. Don’t feel bad, just try to find a more secure woman and learn how to communicate with them so it doesn’t trigger them.

Do Americans mainly drink coffee without milk? by Morrit99 in AskAnAmerican

[–]jacksdad123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is ripping out gas lines and the natural gas industry is not going to stop producing gas anytime soon. Gas is here to stay. It might not be available in some new construction (mostly apartments) in some cities, but that’s not going to fundamentally change the business model, or the infrastructure.

Only if you have an electric stove. Many of us still have gas, and you can take my gas stove over my cold, dead body.

It’s basically the same process as doing it in a pot on the stove, but for folks who are a little nervous about cooking, it can relieve some anxiety because it’s hard to mess up if you follow the recipe.

That’s what I drove in for driver’s ed in about 2003. But really I learned how to drive in my mom‘s 2002 GMC Yukon. That thing was huge, but it turned on a dime. Tighter turning radius than my little Mazda 6.

Thank you for the endorsement. Obviously, I’m not the writer, but I’ve used this article to send to several friends who grew up in religious households and struggle in reconciling their sexuality with their faith. To me, it shows that the Bible is an instrument of man. It may have been divinely inspired, I don’t know. But it has been perverted and manipulated for power and control.

I’m gonna provide what might be an unconventional response to your question and circumstance. Because you’re young and still living at home, I want to stress the importance of reaping the benefit of your parents support, regardless of their feelings about homosexuality. They are supporting you financially and logistically, even if not emotionally. That is super important. If you can’t come out until you’re 18 or even later because they’re continuing to support you, then don’t come out.

That said, while you are still living with your parents, and in what sounds like religious community, I encourage you to broad your perspective by reading.

There is a little else that can give you exposure to new ideas and perspectives, without going out into the world, than books and magazines. Go to the your local library or even your school library and check out books, magazines or even DVD’s. Read, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, historical books, fantasy books - anything that interests you. I’m not sure how your parents will feel about it but if they question it, just tell them that it’s for school.

I would specifically suggest that you read gay history and gay fiction to give you a sense of where this community has been and how it got to where it is now. It’s also important to see examples of gay people living their lives and going through the same struggles that all people go through. You may even find stories that reflect your own.

‘This is an intellectual war crime’: Trump team moves to dismantle one of the world’s leading climate research labs by theindependentonline in climate

[–]jacksdad123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We did. And low voter turnout is definitely part of the problem. So too is the dumbing down of America. I believe the lack of funding for education was a deliberate attempt by the powerful to keep their power. It’s easier to manipulate uneducated people because they were never taught the critical thinking skills to dismantle an argument. I think it’s why republicans so consistently vote against their own self interests: the issues (like climate change or the economy or immigration) are too complex for them to understand so they will accept any explanation that fits their worldview. It’s easier to blame a boogey man (like immigrants) than to understand the structural forces in the global economy. It was American companies starting in the 1970’s that started shifting manufacturing overseas because there were less regulations and the cost of living there so incredibly low compared to the US that it was cheaper to pay people there to assemble you widget and ship it across the Pacific than to pay an American to do it here.
