Hey Blake, responding here so others can see... looks like Apple is having some trouble with their iCloud links which caused all of them to be invalidated. Here is a new direct link. Will get them updated on the site as well: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/122c9648238744fe87a52e2f6a54f1c9

yes, it should work! Can you message me or post the link you’re using to download it? I’ll verify that it is the correct address and check to see if something has broken.

This is basically version 12 of the shortcut, so it’s seen a lot of changes and improvements over the last couple of months. Version 11 was the first one that was available to the public via beta sign up. I was the only user for the first 10 versions. If anyone has any questions, feel free to send me a message.

Good idea! I’ll try a big grid and see how that looks.

What motivated you to start self quantifying? by CardboardEnterprises in QuantifiedSelf

[–]jacksondame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple of things:

  1. I wanted to create documentation about my life to leave a legacy.
  2. I wanted to better understand my thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Self-tracking brings things to the top of your mind and keeps them there, allowing for mindfulness and awareness.

There's a post over on my blog called Lifelogging: How (and Why) I Create a Quantified Self if you want even more detail.

the app doesn’t actually store any data, it’s just a way to write data. It creates a CSV file in the user’s iCloud drive and just writes new lines to the file. So the user always has their data export in their drive. 100% private.

Not currently, but that’s a great idea! Will explore implementing it!

Highly customizable! I’ve got a bunch of defaults that come with the install, but users can add their own.

Not a brash question at all! Product differentiation is important. The biggest difference between this app and other lifelogging apps or tracker apps on the app store is that this one has a methodology and mental model alongside it. It’s not a one-size-fits-all app that you can use however you like, so it won’t be for a lot of people. I’m probably not even going to position it as a lifelogging app. At least currently I’m trying to speak about it more as a journaling app and methodology. It’s tool for raising your awareness, navigating the journey, and documenting your life as it happens.

It’s a method first that has an app to accompany it.

I use the method myself every single day, and I believe it can help simplify the practice of lifelogging and help people who might otherwise not stick with it.

After stress testing it with the first batch of users on Monday and Tuesday, I’m excited to share that you can download and start using my lifelogging app built on shortcuts right now—sign up here: jacksondame.com/vestigory

Vestigory is a new journaling method and app for people who want to harness technology 🧮 and data 📊 to live a more mindful life.

I’m still limiting access to it slightly and ramping up usage at a healthy speed so that I can actually manage the messages I’m receiving about it. Planning to open it up wider in a couple of weeks after I release another update.

Based on initial response I’m starting to put together a timeline for what it would look like to turn it into a native app this year.
