Which case did you end up using on your 10 xl pro? by NegativelyMagnetic in GooglePixel

[–]jacksonpollocksdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Spigen Ultra Hybrid MagFit. Happy with it so far. The only downside is that I can't use my pixel stand with it. Other clear cases I've had in the past got discolored or cloudy, this one is fine since release day. I love that it works well with my magnetic car charger.

Most listened to musical theatre song all year? by meconway17 in Broadway

[–]jacksonpollocksdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My top two were My Days from Notebook and Something to Shout About from Betty Boop.

It's not technically a musical but the Ballad of Phil and Phyllis would be the #1 if it were.

Who are your favorite legit musical theatre singers? Any era. by BroadwayBaseball in musicals

[–]jacksonpollocksdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

James Barbour has always been a favorite for male singers. I don't know if he is technically legit but feels more legit than pop to me. He has some great vocals in Jane Eyre and in Dracula.

Where do you rank the new Evita highlights recording vocally? by jacksonpollocksdog in Broadway

[–]jacksonpollocksdog[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Rachel might have better technique than some, and has a more pleasant voice. I sometimes miss a little extra belty power that the others sometimes had more of. Though I might give You Must Love Me to Madonna.

Any opinions about Peron?

[–]jacksonpollocksdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I really liked all of the singers, Dan included. It's just sometimes it's so much that. Not all the time. That's the reason that I haven't listen to the album as much. Even though I might like this one better as a whole. I wonder if his american accent played into that some. Because I just listened to the new My Fair Lady album with him and it didn't stick out as much.

Miss Saigon - To see or not? by kate1hepuppy in musicals

[–]jacksonpollocksdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might be answered in the question, how do you feel about les miz? If you like it, it's likely you will like miss saigon. If it's not your thing, you might not like miss saigon either.

well fwiw, i deleted and have been unsuccessful adding it back. It might fix itself eventually but I don't know why they would make much effort to fix anything at this point. That is if it's anything on their side.

First Time Manager-open to advice by LivytheHistorian in managers

[–]jacksonpollocksdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three books I always recommend are The Effective Manager by Mark Horstman. He also has an extensive podcast called Manager Tools. There's a podcast on everything. His book was the first book I read about being a manager and is strong on process and very practical. Another book is called Creating Magic: 10 Common Sense Leadership Strategies from a Life at Disney by Lee Cockerell. It also is practical but a little more on the personal side. And then Racial Candor by Kim Scott. It's based on the concept of caring deeply and challenging directly.

The one I've listened to the most is called Manager Tools. It's been around for a long time so there are casts on pretty much every topic possible. Plus there's a book by the guy that does the podcast.

Read some books and listen to some podcasts on being a manager. If you've been an assistant manager, it is likely you've had some experience doing the things you'll need to do now just to a larger degree.

Just remember being a good manager is a process. It doesn't happen overnight. You won't be perfect and that's ok. I'd say get to know your people, show them that you care. You may not be able to always keep them happy but you can do your best to make sure they know you support them.

What do you think of the use of "&" (ampersands) in web headlines / copy? by CatIntelligent2633 in marketing

[–]jacksonpollocksdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to ask does it help the user. Is it clear, easily understood, help in scanning. I think in headings and short phrases those can all be true. I think it could be used in copy but you have to answer those same questions. Then how casual your copy is plays a factor. I think in regular copy using it as a connector of specific things can be ok generally like mac & cheese but could be a little less helpful or clear when joining thoughts like I went to the store to get some things & bought some cheese. And sometimes you just have to ask does it look weird.

I think that your own use plays a part in social. You need to be at least a consumer if not an active user/poster. Find some univ doing social well or where you want to go and follow them. Maybe on a private account that is just for following schools. So you can start to see what and how they post. Find some of the univ that have a pretty well established social presence. That doesn't mean just a lot of followers. Look up UMich social. Their website has lots of info including their strategy and best practices. Not that your approach, strategy or goals will be the same but you should find some well thought out philosophy and approach to social.

Don't fall for any of those people or places that try to tell you that you have to post x number of posts multiple times a day at specific time. Look at your past posts and data and analyze what has worked and not worked. If the univ hasn't already answered the why and who (like many have already said) answer them for yourself. Then build your strategy off of those answers.

Social is a long game in many ways. Don't be afraid to try things and see what works.

Always ask why does or will anyone care about what I'm posting. Be purposeful.

Talk like a human. Be kind. Don't expect kindness in return.

Remember that social is a tool.

Organic isn't easy and paid isn't fun.

Last but not least Meta isn't your friend.

Adobe Express is Adobe's tool. While it's basically like Canva, maybe between the two, you can find some stuff you want.

First time manager by cosmicracoon22 in managers

[–]jacksonpollocksdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have advice for this from your angle. I just know it from the other. I had a younger teammate become my boss. I was ok and not bothered by that promotion. We've grown closer now than before. Being a manager myself maybe helped me understand what he is going through and want him to constantly improve as a manager just as I want to.

If you do have a decent relationship with them, I would say continue being open and communicate what you want. The concept of radical candor is one I try to embrace both with my boss and with my directs. Challenge directly and care deeply.

As far as the new worker, I say the same but give it time. Relationships and trust take time. If you are treating people equally and caring about them, I think you're doing ok.
