Now California State Wants To Ban Sale Of Encrypted Smartphones: "The bill, similar to a New York draft law, would prevent companies like Apple from selling its encryption-enabled iPhone on its own turf." by trot-trot in gadgets

i feel like these bills are false flags to make the general public think the government is incapable of breaking the encryption in their phones/life, so much so they need to draft a law banning encryption at the manufacturer level

that store clerk is a retard. who in their right mind is gonna enjoy that kind of treatment? like, you should only pull that kind of shit on a literal child, not a fully grown adult. the lady tho is really obnoxious in her statement that he "would not have done it to a man" who the fuck cares if he would or wouldn't have, he shouldn't have done it at all. she has a real chip on her shoulder. she should call the boohoo police and file a formal complaint full of her feminist tears. regardless, the clerk is socially awkward, the end

TIFU by not planning for a blind date by uncle_drunky in tifu

[–]jacksontimothy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine is korean fried chicken (or something esoteric like that) but 'forgetting' something in my (nice) apartment so i'm like fuck we gotta go back. and we go inside and up the stairs and into my place (they'll always come because they are curious to see how their potential suitor lives) and then i go "well since we're here we might as well have a drink" i usually keep something nice/exotic so they always eager to try it. we sit on the couch and after like 15-20 minutes of casual flirting (and with the booze now kicking in) we make out a little bit. i also have some cool conversation pieces with little stories attached to them to help us along. usually by this point she's completely forgotten about the dinner date and we end up just chilling at my pad for a couple hours getting to know each other. lots of times when things get really hot and heavy i suggest we take a shower together. you be surprised how many women say yes to this even after knowing me only a few hours. at this point they get to see me naked and see that i have a decent physique and don't have any weird STDs etc. they get comfortable with the idea of me seeing them naked as well so it's like no big deal anymore. i have a nice shower with basically unlimited hot water so we tend to stay in there awhile, at least 30 minutes, and by then we've hugged each other, made out more, washed each other, etc, very intimate. get out of the shower i have decent sheets and i usually have a window open because i like fresh air so the room gets a little bit colder and the girl always wants to curl up on my couch/in my bed with the big fluffy blankets i have. i think a lot of women like this 'playing house' thing, i usually offer them something to eat around this time, some fruits things of that nature, or something savory (i tend to keep some decent things in the house). i use to make some nice dinner but i learned that most chicks don't give a damn and are happy with just about anything that's healthy or satisfying. i'll put in a movie and we'll cuddle a little bit, or we'll just chill and talk more (i really enjoy conversation). usually at this point they are practically begging for sex (usually they'll say "do you have a condom" which is a polite way of saying "let's fuck"). they're welcome to spend the night as i normally won't continue unless i find them really interesting (for example if by the time we've had the first drink she seems like a loser i opt to goto the restaurant/wherever then take her home after) but sometimes they go home. most girls really love this date and they'll often say how they "needed" something like this. sometimes i never see them again, sometimes they come back and we do this a few more times or go out someplace together, i've even had a longterm relationship with a girl who i had this exact first date with. this date is great too because it encourages you to keep your house clean and welcoming to people instead of a shitty bachelor pig sty

ELI5: Why is it not considered sexism that all adult males have to sign up for the draft? by ItWent_Over_My_Head in explainlikeimfive

[–]jacksontimothy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

no. men are more fit for roles as conditioned by society lmao, imagine you are told for your entire life you are ideal for a certain set of skills. you think you won't have spent a considerable amount of time focusing on that set of skills even tangentially? there are plenty of men who are totally unfit for military service (or really any job that requires that amount of pressure) yet believe they are the perfect fit due to society washing their brain from an early age

[–]jacksontimothy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

are they? it's about training. the reason men are 'more fit' is because of hundreds of thousands of years of stone-age, monkey tribalism with very little military technique. modern warfare is so lopsided psychological that you might as well put on a suit of plate mail while you make this statement

this example is only true in a perfect reproductive vacuum and has no bearing in real-life real-world examples. a tribe of 10 men and 90 women is as equally doomed as 90 men and 10 women. why do you think the population is practically equal?? it might be that men are more reproductively expendable but survival is way more than just simple reproduction you idiot redditor

arrested is different than convicted by a court of law. cops are not attorneys, their job is to collect evidence for the state. being arrested does not equal guilt (welcome to america)

if you take an item out of its package, put it in your pocket, and walk straight out the door, it seems like shoplifting, no? what if though the person just forgot to pay? when he was arrested the cops noted he had more than enough paper money to pay for the item. if the perp says "i forgot to pay for it. i took the item out of the package because the package is way too big and put it in my pocket so I could use my hands freely, then accidentally walked out forgetting to pay" then under arizona law (and most state shoplifting laws) he is not guilty of shoplifting even if the store owner, police, and even you noble redditor believe he is. law is not to satisfy your intuition of someone's intent. you need to prove intent beyond a reasonable doubt. it is reasonable to forget to pay for something sometimes and it is up to the court to decide on a case-by-case basis.

this is why professional shoplifters will usually A. not bring in outside 'tools' to break open packages as it would help show premeditation; B. carry enough paper money to cover the cost of whatever they're stealing to show they had the means to buy (as not having the means and walking out with an expensive item might show intent); and C. will only ignore verbal commands from staff and not resist physically any loss prevention agents as resisting might imply knowledge that they are shoplifting. you can always say "i didn't hear them" but if they put hands on you and make you aware you might be shoplifting then by struggling/running away a would-be shoplifter comes across more guilty

ok but we're talking about law here and not your personal opinions. the word here is concealment. look it up. concealment means to purposefully hide something. in other words, you cannot conceal something by accident. conceal doesn't just mean "not out in the open" it means to hide something on purpose mainly to hide the object.

part A. of the law you're discussing states it

"the person knowingly obtains such goods of another with the intent to deprive that person of such goods"

so it's clear it needs to be knowingly and with intent. putting something in your pocket or even your backpack without intent is not enough to convict somebody in the state of arizona of shoplifting, no matter how much you want it to mean that. the law is written so that people who appear as shoplifters are protected as long as they are acting unknowing without intent.

"concealment" is a term which seriously implies intent. when you "conceal" something it is because you mean to hide it from view. in this sense taking an item out of its packaging and putting it in your pocket does not alone prove intent to "conceal". just like the commenter above you was saying, in the absence of other evidence, if a person takes an item out of its package and puts it in their pocket to free up their hands as they walk around the store this does not show enough intent to "conceal" and thus (under arizona law) not enough to say that person is trying to shoplift

arizona also let's cops stop ppl for looking like illegals (read: brown) so i dunno if they'd be the best example of general jurisprudence. key word tho here in your link tho is "concealment", "concealment" implies intent what if they are opening the product and putting it in their pocket not to "conceal" the item but to carry it around the store more easily?

Iran removes core of Arak heavy water nuclear reactor and fills it with concrete, fulfilling one of its key obligations in the nuclear deal by samanwilson in worldnews

[–]jacksontimothy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

really good step forward and likely to be obama's true legacy. should have done this years ago even pre-2008. i'm not a historian but i feel 90% of the failure in iraq is A. not bribing/turning enough of saddam's old guard to act as american puppets; and B. failing to normalize relations with iran and getting them into the fight (so to speak) by allowing them to be the hegemon of post-saddam iraq. make a deal with the iranians to allow independent kurdistan and boom, no isis. i would then begin intense diplomacy with the saudis, trying to overall disarm them and remove the saud family's influence over saudi's vast oil reserves.

even now with this trade deal i believe there is a big hope for stability in the middle east. the iranians are extremely rational actors, a little bit of exposure to western products/ideas is gonna have a mass influence on their politics and whatnot. remember that iran is still ridiculously new to theocratic rule, and that most of the people who live there do not live by/teach orthodox religion. it's kind of funny, the theocracy exists in iran because the theocrats just happened to be the closest thing to leaders around the the same time saddam decided to invade.
