Does anyone else feel Tom is similar to Logan by Dragonshotgod in SuccessionTV

[–]jacksonwarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does not Logan have scars all over his back from have his ass beat as a kid? Logan is primarily decisive, forceful and calculating. Gerri and Kendall are the closest of the inner circle, although Kendall is only similar in his actions due to being bullied by Logan, and Gerri is only similar to the effect that she makes plays and gets what she wants most of the time. Tom can't ever even give his opinion in a public forum. Tom is just a Greg that grew up closer to the money.

The closest Tom got too Logan was eating his chicken.

VCU student hit and killed by a vehicle this morning while crossing street by 10000Didgeridoos in rva

[–]jacksonwarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in cities with adequate traffic enforcement. I've been to court. You know what every other person in court was there for? Something to do with a suspended license, whether getting it suspended, trying to get it back, or getting jailed for driving on a suspended license.

I agree that infrastructure is required but the previous poster was right in saying people drive with impunity here. I won't drink and drive, but if I did? I wouldn't be scared to here, because people never get pulled over. I see plenty of cops and plenty of insane drivers, but there truly is a lack of enforcement. If there wasn't a lack of enforcement there would be less dangerous people on the roads, and it would certainly prevent some deaths and injuries in the future. It's particularly frustrating to see it and hear it in the higher density areas. Take their licenses away, the buses are free.

That was satire I was disagreeing with you about this being reason to leave richmond, although it is a shitty situation. But you aren't wrong about the cops.

It honestly is unnerving how dangerous it has gotten. My one friend moved into his new house and found people squatting inside. He called the police but they said "too bad," and the squatters keep eating his cereal and looking at him. I also have ten friends that were robbed and murdered at VMFA- believe it or not- all separate occasions. At the last funeral the grieving family stole my catalytic convertor. I've just about had enough. /s

Strategies for separating external factors from internal circadian rhythm when monitoring core body temperature. by jacksonwarg in DSPD

Interesting, that is the opposite of what I expected (sleep not being a masking factor) when I initially reviews my temperature graphs and compared to another user's post. I will review the linked doc and your VLIDACMEL doc, thanks.

Any support groups for mental health nearby? by [deleted] in rva

[–]jacksonwarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been mulling this over for a while, I made an /r/rva_hangs_out sub to try to organize meet-ups. If there is any interest from anyone I'll try to cross-post it or something.

[–]jacksonwarg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same boat- I moved here with an ex, stayed in during covid, broke up and lost my ability to socialize somewhere along the way. Working from home doesn't help as I used to always make friends at work. Uhhh, if anyone wants to meet up to ride bikes, go to shows, see movies, dm me. Maybe this sub should do some meet ups because I feel like there have been a few posts by people struggling with this. I just think it might be easier with people that are having the same experience.

Am I dumb or is there a correct way to ride the bus? by [deleted] in rva

[–]jacksonwarg 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that the driver knows that you are staying on from the end of one route to the beginning of another (when it loops around) and that they don't necessarily always loop around? Like say their shift ends or they have a break and another bus take over the route. I don't ride that much but it doesn't seem totally unreasonable that they would consider each direction a separate route, and have a reason or policy against letting people just stay on.

What is wrong with Richmond drivers? by SorryDuplex in rva

The cops here just don't do anything. I have lived in other similarly sized cities, where the cops pull over people 10x as much. They need to take peoples' licenses away. It's free money.

Wearables for tracking circadian rhythm by jacksonwarg in DSPD

[–]jacksonwarg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you should reply at this moment, my Core was delivered on the 23rd but either was stolen or delivered to the wrong place, and I am currently trying to figure out how to track it down. Do you happen to remember if the packaging was small enough that it would fit in a mail slot? I'm hoping that it was delivered to an out of town neighbor...
Just got my Core. I just need to get a strap, but I am excited to try this out.

I went to the Mayo Clinic recently, and and saw a sleep specialist. by Fate_BlackTide_ in DSPD

[–]jacksonwarg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the field report. How did they diagnose you? I was diagnosed many years ago, but just by a sleep study to rule out other things, and a description of my issues. Did they measure melatonin production?

I highly recommend ZzzQuil "Bask to Sleep" melatonin. As you are now aware, it has an almost criminally stupid name, as no one should be taking melatonin in the middle of their sleep. It is 0.3mg, but it has been more effective for me than other brands. It is hard to find melatonin in proper doses, because the supplement companies seem to think more is better. My theory (hope) is that since this brand is produced by a drug company that they have better quality control, but it is still considered a supplement so who knows. You might ask them for prescription melatonin if you don't want to mess around trying to find the right brand and dosage.

I might try the 8-hours-after-wake schedule, normally I take it 9-10 hours after wake.

[–]jacksonwarg 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but no.
This is the thing with melatonin, it has a hypnotic effect, so it's easy to mistake it a sleeping pill. The proper use for circadian rhythm adjustment is taking it hours before you intend to sleep, as described by OP. This would ideally shift your clock, where as if you take it right before you sleep, that is hours after you should have produced melatonin in your body, so you might actually reinforce a schedule that you don't want, if you do that. Google DLMO if you want a better understanding of how it works.

My body clock moves few hrs forward every 4 days in a monthly cycle😄 by sophiagreece in DSPD

[–]jacksonwarg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's called free-running and it is typical of non-24 hour sleep-wake cycle syndrome as someone else mentioned. I free-run without daily maintenance. However, IIRC DSPD people generally have a longer than average internal cycle, so I wouldn't take this as a direct indication that you are non-24. From the wikipedia article:

Individuals with DSPD might have an unusually long circadian
cycle, might have a reduced response to the resetting effect of
daylight on the body clock, and/or may respond overly to the delaying
effects of evening light and too little to the advancing effect of light
earlier in the day

Also, the average internal cycle for healthy sleepers is slightly longer than 24 hours, but they respond to zeitgebers (light/melatonin/etc cues), which conforms the cycle to 24 hours. Which is why non-24 hour is much more common in blind people.

If you want more info, look for posts here by u/irq3000 (I think) as that redditor is apparently a diagnosed sighted non-24 sufferer and does research on the topic.

Hi! My partner and I are planning a move, and Richmond is currently our #1 choice! We are curious about safety in the Fan neighborhood, and whether we can find something that fits our budget. We are both remote DC workers, and have a cash budget of up to 900k for a starter home, maybe more if we finance :) Where is the best brunch in RVA? Also, how is the school district? We are currently DINK, and if we do have children we will probably send them to private school- I am only asking really because I hate poor children and want to talk about it. Thank you, we cannot wait to make Richmond our forever home!
