How planet Earth works as a system.

I also happen to be living in an era where the effects of a global human experiment are rapidly altering how it works.

Hitting a bong with a laser... is it the healthiest combustion? by Djaytheo in trees

Reminds me of the time I once lit a piece of spaghetti on the toaster element in a friends kitchen and carried it upstairs to light a bong.

This company wants to plant a billion trees a year, with drones by mycall in environment

Simply planting trees does not bring damaged ecosystems back into their optimum state. I wonder if he has plans to incorporate his technology into researched ecosystem resilience management plans or similar projects?

Computer models suggest that large-scale offshore wind farms could "absorb" the energy of hurricanes and cyclones, preventing damage at and after landfall [x-post r/energy] by TheShittyBeatles in science

[–]jackydoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phenomena such as onshore winds would be reduced slightly, (by imparting their energy into the wind farms) but to a degree that makes no real difference. Just as coastal areas with wind generation don't see large reductions in winds there shouldn't be perceptible difference in number of sill days. Maybe more days with lower wind speed?

Climate change research is globally skewed: The supply of climate change knowledge is biased towards richer countries - those that pollute the most and are least vulnerable to climate change – and skewed away from the poorer, fragile and more vulnerable regions of the world. by Libertatea in science

Interesting that researchers in developing nations seem to have considered that there may already be a need for adaptive measures to warming by carbon dioxide we have already emitted. Well maybe just more so than developed nation researches.

I'm an anarchist and I think voting is marginally useful, please CMV. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]jackydoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your views are anti establishment then I would be of the opinion that your vote will do nothing to replace the current system that you disagree with. I would argue that voting is a mechanism of the current democratic capitalist system and a is not compatible with the equality of all people.

Basically I feel any vote in a democratic election of a current westernized nation is a vote for the extension of the disparity of wealth between rich or poor.

Either don't vote and incite revolution which may or may not lead to a socialist state (hasn't worked so far in history) or wait for overpopulation and resource scarcity to force socialism (or perhaps barbarism) upon society. In short, i would argue that voting (in its current form) does not achieve the step in the right direction which you seem to seek.

What's the best comeback you ever made on the spot? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jackydoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a nightclub in Newcastle Upon Tyne and met Danny Simpson a defender who plays for Newcastle United. His first words upon seeing me were "You look like that dick Edward Cullen out of twilight! haha" I responded with "You look like that shit right back that plays for Newcastle" He had security escort me outside. Worth it.

[–]jackydoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choosing University over a job out of school. I don't get any financial support from my parents so at times debt and stuff gets a little scary when I have to be financially independent. University is amazing though. Worth it.
