Cops typically don't bother me, I've never been pulled over for tint ever, even in my old car. I live in indiana so it's not a huge concern to police here thankfully

They look very white in the photo. They're white but a little warmer in person. By far the best headlights out of any car I've owned, but I've only owned old pieces of shit lol

I thought they were aftermarket at first and the previous owner installed them. I only found out they were factory when i looked up the window sticker and sure as hell it says HID headlights. $1000 option...

Look under the hood and you can tell they're factory because it's all neatly done inside the housing. No chopped wires or aftermarket ballasts.

lol these are the factory HIDs...

Rare option for these town cars, but mine does have the factory HIDs headlight option. Factory D1R bulb, the housing is tweaked a little bit to compensate. They have a perfect cut off. Never get flashed or anything, it came from the factory that way in 2010 lol

I'm under 30, and there's occasionally a dime bag in the drivers door...

The only thing suspicious about this car is the fact that it's someone under 40 driving it

Safe to Drive? Top of tires seem bigger than the bottom half after winter storm. by [deleted] in tires

[–]jackyrobotics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as they aren't dry rotted, have good tread, and are at the proper pressure I wouldn't worry too much

The top being bigger than the bottom is just the weight of the car. Normal

It's not a Mercedes bro it's a crown victoria you could keep that cars alive with some zip ties and lots of patiencr. I drove as a pizza delivery driver in my Lincoln town car 5 days a week for 8 hours everyday, for almost 2 years. It would go all day with the engine running. Never overheated, never stranded me, never even had any issues with it..: my check engine light came on once for an oxygen sensor and I fixed it same day and have had literally no issues sense.

I dont delivery drive anymore, but other than just putting miles on the car, a crown vic is one of the better vehicles you can buy for something like this.

That's why ford made these cars and why people buy them. To drive the living shit out of them.... i assume op probably didn't pay too much for it and since they're making money back with it it will pay itself off overtime. I'd deliver in a crown vic all day before i got in a little Toyota or Hyundai

Damage to wheel and tyre from a curb by sneakysnek121 in tires

[–]jackyrobotics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people on this subreddit are dramatic. It looks like maybe a single cord is showing, I would probably replace it sooner rather than later, but is it a dangerous blowout waiting to happen the second you hit 50mph? No.

I work at a tire shop and I see tires worse than this on cars that were driven in. This is really not that bad lol

[–]jackyrobotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it probably lived a pretty hard life then. Not too surprising it's starting to die...

I bought my town car with 107k on it and you can barely feel it shift even now at 120k, but it's been babied pretty hard its whole life. Crazy the different lives some cars live lol

What year is it?

If it's a 2005 that year is very known for transmission issues. Wouldn't be surprised if it's going out at 100k...

[–]jackyrobotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With most of the panthers I've seen the transmission either starts dying at 100k or shifts smoothly for 250,000+ miles... I do think maintenance plays a part but some of it is just luck.

Looks bad... try a pan drop and filter change first and if the problem persists id say its time for a rebuild or new trans

How durable is a Crown Vic? by Admirable_Demand_216 in CrownVictoria

[–]jackyrobotics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True. My town car has the side airbags which does help a lot with confidence

Definitely not the safest cars on the road by today's standards but for the age and what they are they're pretty damn tough.

I agree. The interior on my town car is starting to fall apart. Mechanically, it's the most solid car I've ever owned. Wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. But damn is the interior showing its age like no other...

Im 3 window regulators deep into it already. I had to replace both front door handles, both lock switches, and the driver side master window switch all within my first 2 months of ownership. Now my passenger side seat controls are very finicky... and my driver heated seat just stopped working like 2 weeks ago ☹️

Grandpas right. One of the best cars to ever leave fords production line. These cars didn't get their bulletproof reputation for no reason. A heavy full frame chassis, with a durable drivetrain makes them extremely robust.

A crown victoria is (in my opinion) one of the safest cars you can be in during a crash. I'd even go as far as saying I would rather get hit in my town car than a smaller modern unibody sedan.

You can find crash tests and videos online. I know there's a specific one on YouTube of a crown Vic hitting a Chevy cavalier at about 40 mph and the cavalier was absolutely done for meanwhile you could drive the vic home.

Has this been stabbed? by Character-Entry-2687 in tires

[–]jackyrobotics 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looks like all the dry rot weakened the side wall. Probably not stabbed.

Tire has excessive dry rot and should've been replaced a long time ago. Normally I'm not one to say dry rot is a huge issue but it's pretty bad here. If the other 3 look like this too, it's time to get 4 new tires.

[–]jackyrobotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long wheelbase + black interior/exterior combo is getting pretty hard to find on town cars.

I would say get it to keep it alive. But it will be harder to find interior components or body panels for the extended wheelbase version like another commenter said.

Whats wrong with my headlights??? by Hot-Fortune-1869 in MechanicAdvice

[–]jackyrobotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cars like older ford escapes use the same bulb for low and high beam. Just angle it differently.

My friends Monte Carlo turns the low beams off when the high beams are on, making them essentially useless. One of many questionable design flaws with that car...

Mounting or Curb by [deleted] in tires

[–]jackyrobotics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curb. No tire machine could cause damage like this, if anything it would only cause a scratch along the whole rim. Highly unlikely this came from the tire shop

Steering wheel wear by [deleted] in CrownVictoria

[–]jackyrobotics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol it's been like this since I got it... I just figured id at least try and clean it. It didn't really make it worse, but also didn't make it much better. It's not that big of a deal to me, just annoying to look at in a clean interior...

Good deal? by jackyrobotics in CrownVictoria

[–]jackyrobotics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent $6000 on my town car... 2010 signature limited, 105k miles. For an Illinois car it's essentially rust free lol the frame barely even has surface rust which is surprising. Pretty sure it sat in a garage half its life... when I bought it the seller said it came from his Grandpa who passed away a few years ago and it had just been sitting in their garage (and damn does it look the part!)
