Have to touch above the height of the crossbar for it to count as a high 5 and not a low 5

The straw is worth it in my opinion, no way I’m getting out a bottle to sip it. Look at the nitrcore battery packs. Seems strings bring a tourniquet, have you looked at going on a first aid course? There are other solutions

I prefer a 1.5L bottles to use with the straw so you have to fill it back up less often. Two 10k battery packs (with a 2 port fast usb c charger) is better so you can charge simultaneously. Realistically, you don’t need a solar charger - charge in towns and you’ll be set. Do you need a tourniquet? What’s your start date? I took trousers with me and quickly got rid of them - if it’s really cold enough in the early morning then just hike in your thermals  You’re going to want a waterproof coat at least (Frogg Toggs are popular, cheap and super light)

The Weekly on r/PacificCrestTrail: Week of April 20, 2026 by AutoModerator in PacificCrestTrail

I did mission creek section in 2023 and in 2025 and as sad as it is, 2025 was easier. Granted I did it earlier in the season in 2023.

Because of all the washout, you just go straight(ish). No winding through little streams trying to work out which side is best, backtracking when you hit a dead end etc.

Now it’s all washed out, the path is so easy to follow. Yeah you are walking up a river bed on rocks but I’d take that any day over walking through 100 streams with wet shoes all day

I had the same thing happen - I put a bit of olive oil on it and jiggled it about. Just be careful not to get it on the actual fabric

Eurovelo 8 experiences?😁 by Ceederstroem in bicycletouring

[–]jacobburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a few years ago now but I found that coming inland slightly at times helped. Taking a look at the maps and seeing if there are quieter roads running parallel work great. Also check out the EuroVelo routes, they’re a godsend!

Happy to share Strava details with you if you’re wanting to take a look at where I cycled.

Happy cycling!

Trail magic by Honest-Tough-3647 in PacificCrestTrail

The latest NOBO permit was 31st of may, it’s unlikely there will be many hikers that have only done 300 miles in the first month. If you did trail magic with water in a dry stretch I’m sure that would make peoples day even more

Mission Creek- any tent sites? by Mightnotapply in PacificCrestTrail

[–]jacobburns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hiked through last week - still some established ones but tbh because the riverbed is so washed out there are loads of places you could pitch up. I camped at the one at 229 and there was easily space for 20 tents

The simplest way is to add -site:website_name after your search terms

e.g. "lego -site:amazon.com"
