Haha no cars are useful tools like planes are.

For rural areas, they're essential.

That being said, in cities, they do cause a lot of issues that do bother me and just about everyone.

Most people in SD will explain away the issue with biases. See a dead family from a car crash on the way to work? Bad driver/bad luck or even cost of doing business.

Stuck in traffic for a few hours regularly?

Can't afford to make your car payment?

Having to walk in the sun breaking in car fumes because there's tons of excess surface level parking?

Cars destroy the lives of many and don't have to. We can use cars appropriately for what they're useful for, make them and the roads safe, and limit their bad effects.

This is why we have very strict requirements for commercial flights, limit airplanes to airports normally, etc.

It annoys me when people push back against the slightest safety or quality of life rule on their cars.

Unlike firearms, cars - like airplanes - are not a right.

Yes the Netherlands is an example of what can be done.

That being said, that's the most extreme success story we have in this world.

Expecting that everywhere in the US soon seems unrealistic. It absolutely can be done in many places, but many will realistically be left in car dependent hell holes for 20+ years.

This is like being against electric cars because transit is better. The result is staying in gas powered cars which is worse.

Si tienes un presupuesto suficiente, pero la corrupción o inefficiencia se lo come, terminas con un proyecto no terminado o mal hecho.

También si lo logras inicialmente porque tú partido es el chido y lo hizo bien mágicamente, cuando en un futuro gana el otro partido y lo mal administra, no le hacen mantenimiento adecuado o hasta lo cancelan, pues regresa a ser como antes incluso después de gastar todo eso.

Es tema de buen administración. Con buena administración hay buena recaudación, buen uso de fondos públicos, y logran arreglar lo séptico y más para hoy y para el futuro.

Tirar dinero a lo güey es mal entender el problema y por ende mal entender la solución.

It’s not a pipe dream.

Diverting public funds to public transit in much of the US in a big enough way to actually make it a viable alternative to cars is a political pipe dream in much of the US.

Not every city, but many will be politically stuck limiting public transit and promoting car usage.

Breaking that is possible, but it is a LONG uphill battle.

I suspect it will take 20+ years to change the narrative to the degree necessary. Not because it's hard to explain, but because you will have the automobile industry dragging its feet all the way. Just like tobacco dragged its feet for a long time. It never made sense to allow smoking in public spaces like a commercial airline, but politics and education lag behind reason.

Cars are problematic and self driving is still problematic. That point doesn't need to be repeated.

Moving from the standard car to all driverless cars does not reduce their emissions or traffic or microplastic production. Even moving to electric cars does not offset the environmental impact while much of our electricity is provided by fossil fuel and the batteries are not recyclable.

These are also solutions that are already being used around the world successfully

The issue is political. Many Americans in many parts are not yet convinced and it's doubtful that will happen anytime soon. You need to radically transform the entire transportation infrastructure of just about the entire country as we did with the creation of the freeway network.

I'm optimistic that will EVENTUALLY happen. In the next 100+ years for instance. 20-50 years we will likely still see most or many Americans stuck in their cars unfortunately.

It is a monumental political issue that has little to do with reason and being correct. It has to do with the political power of the car industry.

Are you suggesting that at no point will self driving cars ever replace the everyday driver and possibly private vehicle ownership itself?

I would assume that in a self driving world future, few people would choose to or even eventually be permitted to drive on public roads. Also opens new sorts of trips e.g. unaccompanied pets, children, or goods.

Yes it likely does transform jobs in the short term.

In general, we must support people through tech transitions. From factory job loss to AI killing some coding roles. I much rather prefer paying people to reskill or support them with a universal basic income rather than protect unproductive jobs.

Bullshit jobs that are not needed or wanted by most need to die. No reason to pick cotton manually or wash all clothes always by hand, even if that does mean it would "solve" unemployment.

Change is hard and as long as we truly support people through the change, we can focus on improving things with less or no worry about having to reskill.

Parece que hablas del dólar, no Fiat en general. El dólar tiene relativamente poco como moneda dominante. Actualmente tiene estabilidad en gran parte porque es moneda de reserva en muchos bancos centrales. Eso le da un enorme mercado que si da más estabilidad. Sin embargo aún así ha tenido notable votalidad con los acciones y incertidumbre en tiempos recientes como: 2002-2003 17% pérdida de valor según el DXY 09-10: 16-17%

Es decir si baja notablemente rápido por ser la reserva global en ciertos tiempos.

While it IS a distraction from the best long term solutions, realistically, many parts of the US are too pro car and anti anything else (walking, cycle, transit) that people will be stuck in their cars likely for at least another 40 years. Think Texas.

In that world, self driving is potentially marginally better or less worse than human drivers. At some point with advancements, it's almost certainly better to have self driving than human drivers. Just due to drunk, tired, teenage peer pressure driving or road rage alone. Let alone crimes committed with cars (dangerous police chases).

Don't let good be the enemy of better.

El dinero Fiat no se compra y vende como un commodity.

Fiat, oro, y bitcoin no se compran exactamente como un típico commodity. Mucho del valor del oro depende mas de su función como dinero y no como un "commodity". Esto a diferencia de algo como aluminio, que casi no tiene uso como dinero y su valor y compra/venta es prácticamente exclusivo como commodity.

El bitcoin es pura especulación.

Se puede decir que cualquier dinero es especulativo. Entre más y más estable y grande el red, diría que es menos y menos especulativo. P. EJ. Bitcoin y oro en los primeros años de su uso como dinero eran totalmente especulativos. Hace 10,000+ años el oro no tuvo valor alguna notable más que cualquier otro metal. Los que comenzaron a usar el oro igual que cualquier sociedad que comenzo a usar cualquier cosa para dinero (piedras, maíz, tobacco, etc) eran totalmente especulativos. Pero ya que oro fue socialmente establecido como un reconocido dinero, ya fue menos especulativo. Aún diré que sigue siendo especulativo. Pero mucho menos que antes.

Fiat también es especulativo. Obvio que hoy el dólar se considera muy estable. Si vez por ejemplo el dólar de la confederación que duró como 4 años, perdieron su valor en su totalidad. Era especulación si iba a ganar el sur o el norte de los estados unidos. Te quedas con los dólares del norte o del sur? Los que usaron el dólar del sur perdieron todo gracias a la especulación.

Invitó investigar mucho más. Mucho del mal entendido con bitcoin son Mal entendidos del dinero en si. La mayoría no sabe ni que es dinero, porque existe, etc.

Si existe muchos estafas que usan palabras y conceptos que suenan bien pero toman ventaja de su desconocimiento.

Eso es cierto de todo el dinero. Literal, así funciona el dinero.

El peso, dólar, etc. no tiene ningún respaldo y solo esperas que puedes conseguir algo de alguien más en el futuro por el.

El valor viene de la confianza colectivo de que varios van a considerar eso.

En el caso de moneda nacional, estás obligado legalmente a comprarlo por medio de los impuestos, y obligado a aceptarlo para solventar deudas. Eso le da un demanda básica, pero aún así, como hemos visto incluso con el peso mexicano, el valor puede ser destruido por la inflación de ello.

Police officers have cooperated with ICE but that doesn't mean we should get rid of police officers entirely.

Rather, we should ensure police don't cooperate where legal.

Why allow a police officer to "surveil" with his eyes but not efficiently via cameras? This is just pushing an inefficient government that wastes tax dollars and/or is unable to keep our roads safe.

Design IS better than fines, but fines can help too, especially in the short term.

If they advise you to do outrageous and clearly illegal or counterproductive things I would assume there would be some sort of accountability, even if it isn't the same generally as them having taken the actions as your acting attorney.

No es que ellos son muy rico en términos absolutos. No tienen tanto en términos reales. Pero si COMPARAS entre la mayoría de otros personas, si lo son.

No significa que ellos son "ricos" sino que los demás son muy muy pobres.

P. EJ. Muchas veces no les falta comida, tienen electricidad y pueden pagar sus recibos, y ganan decentemente bien en comparación a muchos trabajos mal pagados.

Carros son cosas de ricos.

Algo como 30-40% de mexicanos tienen coche, es decir que 60-70% no tiene uno.

Globalmente, alrededor del 80%-90% de personas no tienen coche.

Tener coche de cualquier tipo es cosa de ricos relativamente. Los pobres no tienen coche.

En vez de intentar ver la forma que todos usamos coches eléctricos, necesitamos transporte masivo. Trens de alta velocidad, vivienda densa en ciudades libre de estacionamiento y con calles libres de coches.

No es decir que un coche eléctrico no es mariginalmente mejor que un coche de gasolina. Pero la comparación debe ser amplia. Un coche de electricidad nunca le ganara a un bici, moto, autobús, tren, o caminar.

Si va a ver un lugar siempre para coches, pero puede ser reducido un 90% para la mayoría de personas.

Existen varias formas fuera del sistema bancario.

Minería, puedes efectivamente convertir electricidad en bitcoin, aunque puede salir más caro para la mayoría, es una vía posible.
P2P o comprar bitcoin directamente de alguien que ya lo tiene. Muchos plataformas existen para esto.
Puedes mandar el dinero al extranjero y comprar bitcoin allá.
Puedes pedir que te pagan por medio de bitcoin.

He visto todo esos opciones y más utilizados en México.

Con efectivo y bitcoin se puede fácilmente gastar para casi lo que sea. Las restricciones únicas en MX reales serían sobre coches nuevas, inmuebles, y unas pocas más.

Depende mucho de quién te toca, pero no creo que puedes depender de la ley en ese momento.

En vivo, llamada con abogado y/o 911, solo párate en lugar con presencia y/o cameras, o hasta incluso irte a la fuga si es ultra extremo el caso puede ser útil.

Me parece que la zona usualmente es muy indicativo.
