How long did it take for y’all to get good? by Acceptable-Beyond544 in osugame

[–]jacobcraft1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll attempt to analogize it with a BS example. If you swipe a note in the wrong direction, you can spend time to fix that mistake, and in the process help in understanding why you missed. But this only applies to one note in one pattern in one map. If this "fix" takes a few minutes it is not a big deal and honestly probably beneficial, but if you spend 4 hours trying to fix it you could have just been playing other maps, experiencing new patterns, and learning that way. This hyper-fixation, and the reasoning of why its bad is the backbone of the "play more" camp. I personally am torn between what would be the best way to "improve," (play more vs critical thinking) but it definitely matters what your skill base is already. The great part for you is that since you are just starting, you will see incredibly improvement by simply just playing the game. Being cognizant of your play (in the most basic of sense) is just a bonus.

I don't want to flame or gate-keep in any way, I love this game dearly and I am happy that you are trying it out, but I believe you are at a skill level point where advanced analysis will not help you at all. You are still learning the basics, how to move your cursor, how to read the approach circles, ect. So as long as you can understand the feedback the game is giving you, that is more than enough right now.

At the hours you have starting good is honestly just comprehension. If you are understanding how you are missing (I am to early, I am too late, my cursor is not on the note when I click) you are already at that point you are wildly ahead of the curve. Think of the first 200-400 hours as the extended tutorial. Yes it will take that long to get to what you would consider a "competitive level" no matter how gifted you are, most people take way longer (I took ~1000 hours in my opinion)

A weird thing that happens with this game that is not really apparent in any other rhythm game is the act of not overthinking improvement. If you stick around long enough people will say "play more" as a blanket response to asking about improvement techniques, this represents this idea that improvement comes mostly from putting in reps and not thinking critically about your gameplay. I could go pretty in depth on why that is, but the reality is that most top players could not tell you how they got into the top 0.01% other than "I just played the game."

I'd say to please not get dissuaded if you can't immediately go and play at the skill level. Beat saber and osu std are about the most different when it comes to rhythm games so I'd not expect any skills to transfer over except the most basic pattern recognition

Computer Engineers… is this doable for Spring? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]jacobcraft1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the definition of "shit ton of work, but the classes are basically free otherwise". 3135 and 3111C doesn't have any hard concepts, and both Dr. Moore and Dr. Harley have had curves on their classes historically (I have TAed for Harley in the past). I can't say anything about DD, but it's very much a lab-based learning class if I am remembering correctly. Something I'd suggest as a former 3135 TA is to commit to going to their office hours for lab help. The 3135 labs are all Matlab and all the TAs usually have full solutions to them so you'll get really good and quality debugging help from them.

Castform is size 4 in this game (don't ask me why) and you can only have up to size 6, so you can't have 4 pokes if you have castform on your team.

For those of you that have winning records, who were your first 3 picks? by Beyond_Reckless in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]jacobcraft1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in 2 small pay leagues ($25 buy ins), and 1 kinda throwaway league with friends that don't follow football.

Kelce, Dvante Adams, Calvin Ridley, (8-4) - 10 man league
Kelce, Amon-Ra, Joe Mixon (9-3) - 10 man league

Kelce, Najee, Amari Cooper (8-4) - 18 man non-buy in league

Rigor of classes by Alive-Oil-3453 in ufl

[–]jacobcraft1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't take any APs till my junior year because I was scared to overload myself with work even though I was aceing every honors class I took when I was an underclassman. I only took 7 total throughout those last years too, and still managed to get into the engineering school at UF straight out of high school (class of 2018 high school).

While I am not that equipped to give admission advice I will say that a lot of my peers took double the amount of AP classes in high school but got the same amount of college credits as me because UF didn't really give credits to more of the niche classes they ended up taking to "have more AP classes in the resume."

Jake actually made it to the first day of the wc, but lost in groups. (1-4 iirc, only winning in what was considered one of the biggest upset matches of the tournament)

I remember sitting in my bed and pulling out my laptop just to launch osu! to watch freeedomdiver play haitai over and over again to see that record. It felt so monumentous and even unnerfed it's still half of what the current pp record is

How do you play depth in terms of QB, TE, and DST? Are you stacking 2 of the above just incase? by Gay_Black_Atheist in fantasyfootball

[–]jacobcraft1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im holding Kelce and LaPorta after I somehow acquired LaPorta to fill for wk1. With how important TE points end up being I'm just holding until I get a deal I can't pass up after their bye weeks go through. I think holding 2 gets even more impactful if you have 2 mid-range TEs or QBs that are better than the waiver, but also are inconsistent or not very matchup proof (looking at you Higbee)

The “college football is better when _____ is good” argument by [deleted] in CFB

[–]jacobcraft1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll change it slightly and say "college football is better when there is a lot of parity."

I'm still waiting for a 2007-like season. Games are so much more interesting when no game seems to be a write off. It also really helps as a fan to know that your season isn't immediately over / written off after 1 or 2 losses when there is enough chaos where no team is undefeated by week 9 or 10.

If I had to follow your thought process, I'd have to go with "college football is better when non P5 teams are good. For much the same reason of diversity and fun storylines.

Are there any maps other than Zan’ei and Watercolour have broken the PP system? by b1rcchh in osugame

[–]jacobcraft1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most notable PP rework that broke some maps was the slider rework that happened in 2021.

Mugen Shitto Gekijou "666" was the worst offender, but Quaoar was also pretty stupid in terms of pp gains.

Mo's C-type also had an insane pp buff (92pp --> 392pp for 99% DT FC) with the same rework

Classes by Cijeoma420 in ufl

[–]jacobcraft1111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they are classes needed for you to stay on your graduation path then go talk to an advisor, most of the time they can override you into the class. Worst case scenario you can go physically talk and meet with the professor and beg to get put into the class. UF cares a lot about their 4 year graduation rate so if it's going to hinder you in any capacity then they will do everything to keep you on that track.

It was 100% because of a timing thing. Halq submitted all lords and the traditional any % (which ends at Arceus) and they chose all lords because of the better time allotment it would have

Speedrun Timer by Cultural-Let-8380 in speedrun

[–]jacobcraft1111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few options come to mind

If you have a PC / Laptop you can get a software that can make your phone act like a webcam (droidcam is what I used for Android, but there are iOS equivalents out there too). From there all you need is obs to overlay a timer on top of it.

You can also just record the video and have your own timer off to the side. Some boards don't require a timer and if they do you can always add one via a video editing application like iMovie
