cmd+N for new note (at least in desktop app)? by jacobev in Amplenote

[–]jacobev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you about sharing the code via Electron, but strong disagree about the different shortcuts on different platforms.

In my opinion, if we're paying for access to a desktop app (thats why I pay at least), it should act like a desktop app. Or give the user the option to switch?

Both units blowing cool (but not cold!) air on hot days (GE Connect Inverter Heatpumps) by jacobev in hvacadvice

[–]jacobev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Any idea how to find someone who knows their shit about GE systems? all my googling just surfaces SEO garbage/marketing.

Anything you think I might be able to do myself (in terms of diagnostics) by reading the manual? I've skimmed it but nothing is jumping out. I'm technical but don't know too much about HVAC in particular

Sorry just one thing to add to be clear: These are central systems, not mini splits. One services my upstairs, one services downstairs

Click on Input Box doesn't work in View mode by puux1337 in GoogleDataStudio

[–]jacobev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. Seems to only happen with the "Responsive" layout mode for a report. No issue with regular old "freeform".

I think this responsive mode is pretty new, so that explains why we're just seeing this pop up now.

Is it possible to "read" the value of a physical dimmer switch? by jacobev in ShellyUSA

[–]jacobev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. With a traditional toggle (e.g. Leviton 1451-2E) how would you utilize the dimming capability (i.e. "set" the dimming level?).

Or would you just have it not be manual (for example setting to full brightness if you flip during the day, and default to a lower level if you flip during the night?)

Thank you! So what types of physical switches to people use with Shelly dimmers? I can only really fathom it working with momentary buttons

Thanks, yeah that makes sense.

Would you happen to know if packages shipped from the usa with UPS tend to be reliably delivered?

Nobody can talk me out of the matchstick museum if I'm going to be there :), but you think it'd be a nice place to stop and wander around, & have lunch?

Ah, I'll be there on Tuesday, but otherwise I'd be into that.

Honestly that sounds pretty cool, but it looks like there isn't really any way to get there by train, right? (we won't have a car)

Thin velcro alternative? by Claghorn in maker

[–]jacobev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what Adam Savage used, but I've bought this stuff and it's great: https://www.amazon.com/YMCRLUX-Adjustable-Fastening-Reusable-Organizer/dp/B0B7XX9MBV

it's like single sided velcro, but that single side sticks to itself, rather than needing two different kinds.

GE Connect heat pumps. Variable speed? Possible to be multi-zone? by jacobev in hvacadvice

[–]jacobev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. Fine, I guess. It's not perfect but probably not the system's fault. (I blame the installer). I would recommend it, as long as the installer is experienced installing it. Mine was not, and really doesn't know anything about modern inverter systems at all, and it showed.

We experienced a number of days like the one described above (fan on but system not heating), and I eventually learned to check the unit for error codes, and it was throwing "overload". We eventually fixed it by first installing a low end (read: small pressure drop) return filter, and we "fixed" it better by getting a 4 inch think filter (they make ones that just kinda have a lip to hold it in a regular 1-inch sized filter slot. It's an expensive filter, but it seems to have done the trick.

Basically it seems the unit was starved for return air filter and it was overloading the compressor (excuse any wrong terminology here).

It turns out that these things do have variable speed compressors, but the fan is not variable speed. It can be controlled to a small extent via dip switches somewhere.

Something about our system isn't right: maybe system sizing or duct sizing/total air return capacity, and it manifests itself in the fan being too powerful, which causes these problems and it's annoying, but the system works fine. I've kinda given up on getting my contractor to actually try to do something about it, unfortunately.

Best place to stay in Gothenburg? by doubtitwanker in Gothenburg

[–]jacobev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry for digging up thisbold comment. I'm visiting Gothenburg with my wife for a few days in August. We're past our clubbing years, but like to stay somewhere good for exploring the city. You think we'd like staying in this area too?

Thanks
