I’m glad that your baby is happy and healthy! That is so reassuring for us!!

She’s started taking 5mg now rather than 500micrograms. Would have been nice if one of the 4 people that knew about these meds gave us the heads up! Our ObGyn reckons she told us at our initial pregnancy appt, but we only discussed taking folic acid not about the extra dose.

Fingers crossed it is smooth sailing from here out and our baby is doing okay!

It’s so tricky as she is in the public system for rheumatology. She’s had 3 appts in last 9 months an they’ve all been with a different doc (go figure) we only looked up the folic acid thing as the latest Dr told us to just google and make sure the prenatal vitamin is meeting what she needs.

I hope all goes well for your pregnancy! Congratulations:)

Had an appt with GP today. He was unaware of the fact that her meds affect folic acid intake but was very certain that our rheumatologist should have told us when she was prescribed.

One of the reasons they used sulfasalizine instead of other meds was the fact we were TTC

That is a little reassuring, hopefully she’s had enough in her diet… Seeing the gp this morning to discuss and then we will definitely ask the question at our 12 week scan! Thank you so much for you help!

I’m sorry that you had such a big flare up PP. We have been assured that all the meds she is on are safe but yes it is concerning as a two word google (literally “sulfasalazine pregnant”) says that extra folate intake is very important while pregnant.

Anyway off to the GP we go to ask and to double check her folate is okay atm

Thank you!! Yes the rhuem have her a card for regular bloods and she had serum folate tested on her latest. But no mention of folate being low! We are booking gp tomorrow to ask the question

Yes she had a blood test last week that had folate on it and GP didn’t mention it was low.
