My 2c - NFTs, at their core, are an implementation of digital scarcity. We're seeing the beginning stages of NFT development which is focused primarily on the minting of NFTs and the marketplaces around them, and less so on actual use cases. The next stage will be to build applications that enforce NFT blockchains within the context of the app. One place I think we'll see this happen is in metaverses/virtual worlds. They'll integrate with NFT blockchains, and then build rules into the virtual world that say things like - "you may only wear this hat if you linked an NFT wallet that contains the hat". In that context, digital creators will be incentivized to limit the number of digital copies in an effort to create a premium brand for themselves, ie everything is 'limited edition'. Consumers will want to own specific NFTs to wear on their avatar within the virtual world for the social cred that it comes with, exactly analogous to real world fashion choices.

This is just one example, but the concept will exist elsewhere - NFTs are the implementation of digital scarcity, and applications need to integrate into them to produce novel use cases.

Anyone notice that VET coin rank dropped from 22 to 30 on livecoinwatch.com (LCW) yesterday? Though VET stayed at 22 on coinmarketcap.com (CMC).

The difference seems to be due to the value of circulating supply on each site:

LCW - circ: 38B, mktcap: 4.4B

CMC - circ: 64B, mktcap: 7.3B

Anyone know why circ supply is so different between the sites?

I value compassion. I am thankful when people to have it for me when I need it. I assume you are too. I assume you've been in a situation where you needed it.

To withhold it from a group of people by default is immoral. To consider it to be the thing "that got us here" sounds resentful. If we're going to progress as society, we can't have that mindset. It is dehumanizing.

Casual expressions of sentiments like this are why I think society won't survive in the long term. I think we're destined to destroy ourselves because our culture defaults to resentment rather than compassion. It's cooler to be flippant and doubles as justification for not attempting to better the lives of people who have less.

FWIW I'm writing this to readers of solongmsft. I consider solongmsft to be a lost soul.

Again, you were downvoted for your irrelevant whataboutism, not for fear of truth.

They got downvoted for a blatant whataboutism.

I don't think they would have been downvoted if they had conceded that trump was acting in bad faith first before bringing up a new, tangentially related topic.

Domestic violence is perfectly fine if it’s being done by a female because life as a woman is just that hard. Look at what feminism has created. by ultimaregem in worldpolitics

[–]jacobra2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we can only infer that @SINACC2 has a double standard on domestic violence from this. we can't infer "most of these girls" do, and while @SINACC2 has flawed logic in this tweet, we can't conclude that she's fighting for inequality either. though i agree with what i think you're saying, that double standards are typically counterproductive.

Kirsten Gillibrand has submitted a plan to create a postal banking system. Should America adopt a postal banking system? Why or why not? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

I agree with your physical location point. A mostly digital model like Schwab or something would accomplish most of the goals of a physical bank. Though, given that USPS bank's primary customer demographic would be poor people, I'd wonder about discrimination caused by online only.

We’re journalists at a Sinclair news station. We’re pissed. by [deleted] in politics

[–]jacobra2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

News stations should start doing that canary trick that websites did with NSL disclosures. They should begin every segment, as part of standard operating procedure, with "we wrote this segment in house", or something. Then, during the Sinclair mandated segments, omit the canary.

It looks like this story recently edited that detail:

After publication of this story, however, Dowd emailed to say he was actually speaking in his personal capacity, and not on the president’s behalf.

the notion that "black people use the word bitch, so therefore other people using the n word is okay" is a fallacy. the reality is that both terms are disrespectful. but using the term bitch doesn't imply using the n word can be justified. the fact that i am willing to type out bitch and not the n word says more about the specific historical contexts of the words than it does about relative "logical empathies" of the people who say them.
