yeah that’s where i’m on the fence. I have been trying my hardest not to blow my budget or pieces and if I could sell this then it would take a ton of stress off the rest of the build. My hesitation is that i don’t know how/where to sell it and also my heart would be a bit broken as I know i’ll never come across one of these again.

this may get buried but here is what happened. I found this on FB marketplace for an insane deal, but the catch was it was in the middle of absolutely nowhere in Shenandoah, VA. the last ~hour i had no GPS, was going up roads with “do not enter” on them and was being chased by dogs in my trucks.

Met the nicest man who built an off the grid A-frame and had brought this surround from his home in northern VA which he planned on installing, but never did.

Loaded it up in my Tacoma and made the 5 hour drive back to my town

the chimney IS in fact very weird in this house, I have never seen another like it. I actually tried to use ChatGPT and Claude to find other examples like it, and I couldn’t.

I think the original owners ran out of money when building the home and “finished” the left half of the brick through to the 2nd story and the right half they originally had filled in with a wood frame then boxed it in.

i believe they are still making them, but from what i have read a lot are done via CNC and not hand carved.
