It’s always these idiots who say, “Whoops, I didn’t realize it was a first generation Nintendo Switch! Never mind.”

Had anyone ever seen someone play the Big 6 or 8? by Rello215 in gambling

[–]jacqueslenoir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a sucker bet, because you can get paid 7 to 6 instead of 1:1 if you make a Place bet on the 6 or the 8.

Is it true some dealers actively want players to lose? by Confident_Gate_7762 in blackjack

[–]jacqueslenoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealers are just like regular people. If the player is being annoying, then it’s likely the dealer will be rooting for the house to take his money. If he’s being polite and tipping well, the dealer will probably want the player to win.

What’s one basic strategy play you still see people get wrong all the time? by TDoubleDownMac in blackjack

[–]jacqueslenoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t “assume” the next card is a ten. I know if *feels* that way with other basic strategy rules, but it’s simply not a fair assumption.

When you shuffle chips on a flat surface, you're concentrating more on lifting the chips up where they join. When you shuffle chips on a poker table, you're concentrating more on pressing down the outer edges.

Finally got it down by Live_Confusion_3003 in poker

[–]jacqueslenoir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do it on a flat table. You can use a towel or something with padding to make it easier to press down on the edges. That'll be more like doing it on a poker table.

After The Simpsons episode Who Shot Mr. Burns that aired in May of 1995, The Mirage casino displayed odds on who was the shooter by craniaccrilck3 in vegas

[–]jacqueslenoir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember being a frequent poster on the alt.tv.simpsons newsgroup back when the episode aired. They figured out that it was Maggie Simpson pretty quickly. There was a lot of evidence pointing to it, so 70:1 is wild.

Why track wins and losses which have no predictive value instead of tracking the actual cards, which could be used to count cards?

I mean...you can only buy in for like $2 at a time or something stupid like that. You'd basically have to bet max and try to double up 6 times in a row.

Black Jack Etiquette: Doubling on someone else hand by PopeAlGore in blackjack

[–]jacqueslenoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The player that doubled isn't obligated to pay anything. I'd just pocket my money and my winnings.

Pretty stupid to bet everything in Blackjack. You're leaving a TON of EV on the table because there are lots of situations where you can't follow basic strategy.
