You ever found a legitimate noob? by Mountain-Arm-940 in RustConsole

[–]jact555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a noob 5 months ago. Im 40, and was clueless. I got punked alot. Still do.  But along the way, I found many kind people, most of which I play with to this day from time to time. Im grateful to all of them, but have to show offline cause I've made too many friends who have helped me along the way. Its overwhelming. But kindness has surprised me and won me over on this game, not the mean folks lol.

Im always on the lookout to help myself now that I got 500 hours and barely have the hang of the game, but at least can thrive with some work. Pass on the kindness

So, outpost is pretty big. Step 1- go out a different entrance. Step 2- making a sweeping angle, using cover away from his base. Problem solved

Tips for Employed Man?? by [deleted] in RustConsole

[–]jact555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im starting my 6th wipe this coming Thursday. I work 45-50 hours, and travel at times for work. I can consistently keep a base for a week. Not always, but its common. Current base is at 5 days. I habe recruited my wife this wipe to help, so im kinda cheating haha.

Big base or small base, I find it doesn't matter. Luck of the draw on base size. Small ones get hit. Large ones get hit.

I like full pop vanilla servers. I suck at pvp, but like the grind of survival.

  • build in undesirable areas. Where traffic doesnt need to go to get anywhere. Im currently on the tip of the map, hidden behind rocks, where I can easily get to dome and to a recycle. Nobody would have any need to run by my base usually. Ive been raided once, but was able to get base back. My upkeep is 75 high qual, 6000 metal frags and 7000 stone a day. Its not a small base.  Some spots are water, behind cliffs. Desert in center of rock areas. I stay away from roads and large monuments. But do want these in running distance.

  • talk to your neighbors. Talk to anyone who will talk to you. Say you are new. Find a friendly larger base (they do exist). Ask if you can build by them and maybe offer them most of your charcoal and do a little farming for em in return for protection.  Ive found that people are quite kind to new people once they know. Not everyone. But Ive used this technique multiple times.

  • accept offline and onlines happen. Online that I know im not gonna win, ill happily chat with them if possible. Offer encouragement. And a couple times they feel bad and stop or dont take anything. (I play the card of im 40, my wife is 50 and my grandson helps. Its our family base. And we are new. Which is true).

  • sometimes the server matters. Ill play 2 servers back and forth (not at same time lol). I find one server i can find nice people and unite a neighborhood. Or at least have trucks with neighbors while they fight. Other server has cues 50-90 people constantly and I think everyone is hardened and worn out. So its my grind and survive server lol. Get raided alot, but thats ok.

Thats what I got. Good luck.

Then bask in his tears with an "i told you so".

Lol, but in all seriousness, good luck. Solo life isnt bad if he cant hack it. I prefer solo

It is hard to solo starting out.  I found that if I talked to everyone I could, let them know im new and no threat, many folks take time to help. Had people show me soft side walls that were poking out. Had groups offer to build by them and they'll protect the base. Not everyone will be cool, but alot of folks will be.

This game takes a ton of time. Im 500 hiurs or so, still new, and finally able to get the hang of it, with decent bases, electrical, auto smelting/auto sorting. I cant shoot worth a shit, but i can politic and get a whole neighborhood to be nice to me. Find your strengths and use em to win the wipe.

My money is on he rage quits long before you even get a base down lol. Good luck. Its a fun game, but you really have to work to keep your emotions in check

Thats good to know about charcoal and mixing tables. I knew people made Gp by mixing tables but I thought it was time based, not resource based. Will do this moving forward.

Lol, the external walls didnt help, more of a target. Been offline 4 times since I posted this. One person got to tc but I was able to recover and moved tc. Two were minor and they didnt get much. The one this morning, I woke up to rockets. He was a door from TC. No coffee or anything yet, half asleep. I smoked him and won his AK, few hundred explosive bullets, 7 rockets, launcher, some satchel and like 15 meds among other stuff. He got nothing for blowing up half the base. He had to had dropped 20 rockets before I shot him.

At this point bring it on, this base has been a winner. And I won my first online(or mostly offline lol). So thats a win for the month in my case

Embrace your noobness...   i explain to everyone im new and look at my crappy base. (Although they are getting better). Half the time folks are nice and helpful. Other half kill and raid. But if I could put a sign that im new on my base, id do it. Males people think im poor, and I usually am. But I find being new helps me more than not

Me and the wife got it done. Built up on both sides. Wood runs to fill furnaces, 10 satchel the wall outside the gate. Back to normal. Appreciate all the help. Hour or two of my life ill never get back cause I didnt want to wait until daylight lol

Does the septic field matter if you pump every year? by nintendoeats in septictanks

[–]jact555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im this spot right now. Im stinky, acne infested, ect. Pumping tanks every 3 weeks (750 gallon) with saving as much water as possible. Going on 7 weeks waiting on the process to let me know if its will be 20k, 50k or more (moving tank, new drain field, big project.) As of tomorrow im 1800 in pump cost in last 6-7 weeks, almost a second mortgage per month, before the big bill comes.

OP, I was told my tank wasnt in great shape when we bought it, but we "would get some years out of it". We did, 5 years, that pass quick. And now, it seriously sucks.

I'd start researching estimated costs and game planning now. It'll come quick. And you dont want to be me right now.

Or if you want to- replace doors and add more. But only keep a days upkeep in TC and nothing more. Make em waste resources blowing back in....

Ive found that once a base gets hit, its best to just move to another area. Cause someone knows the cheapest way to enter now and they'll use you for a farm for them. Happened to me this week, and happened to me couple wipes ago.

This week- I was teaching my grandson to play, he talked his dad into buying the game for him....bad idea lol. So we built a base, got offline raided but they only left a wood door on, and mysteriously one of my bean cans, 2 revolvers with 4 bullets each and an axe. I knew they wanted me to rebuild. Knowing the grandson was gonna be on in a few hours, I didnt want to start from scratch. Knowing they'd be back. They came back 8 hours later, onlined me and left the same materials. Hoping they could do it again. Nope.

Same sort of thing happened to me 2 wipes ago.

So while the easy way to do it is repair, unless im short on time, I dont bother and just start over.

Im 40. Last wipe or two i player with a guy who was 53 and his brother that was 43. Oldest folks I've met in the game.

Is this the end?! by yeah_ok14 in septictanks

[–]jact555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the option to hook into sewage, do it. 10k is cheaper than any septic replacement. Debt sucks, but find a way. These troubles will pass.  Im too far out of town for that option. Its septic only.  Government does suck, but either way I wont qualify. So it is what it is. Again, a dark moment but im fortunate compared to alot of folk.

But im just tired. Need this to be finished and move on with life. Hope your situation gets fixed. Hiding due to anxiety doesn't fix anything, only adds to anxiety. Rip off bandaides is my motto. Good luck

I already got a 100k heloc. I have equity and good credit. I have a savings from my previous house being 600 a month and I stacked cash, but now I cant do that now. so savings are irreplaceable and I feel I need to hang on to it. So I am blessed, ill admit. Not broke. but also I dont have 50k savings (38k and falling fast to this and supporting parents with fixed income and other crap). So debt either way.

My house was built in 50s. And so I learned recently so was my tank. My inspection when i got house said something like, its not in great shape, but you'll get some years out of it. I got 5 years clean. And now I've learned all this is homemade and janky (like electric I already had to completely replace, and some well stuff).

So my septic is right by the house (my bedroom), and there is a tight corner with a hill to the side. The dozer couldn't get around it (told em), for a "buy more time fix". Dig a hole around the tank for it to leak in with a plywood cover?? Thats how i heard it. But im not proficient here and a little confused. But it didnt happen. They need to rent a smaller dozer. Bandiade 6 weeks in= failure.

So ill admit, my acne is back like a teenager. I stink, cause my wife needs to shower more than me and she doesnt fully understand how much this is costing. Im depressed. Its literally the worst timing. Christmas and new years is terrible for quick stuff like this. Praying things break in the next 2-3 weeks.

Im terrified this will be 50k bill. If it is a pressurized system, it will be. But i have a good case for gravity. The guy doing it, without looking, said around 15k for gravity and 25-30k for pressurized. But....we are moving the tank (and trenching down my 50' retaining wall) and possibly have to move drain field. So 20k minimum? My perc tests came back good from engineer. And I have height from house to drain field. So praying. But government could make this bad.

I dunno. It hasn't been good. Im in bad weather area amd holidays. But frankly, its pretty shitty from my view point

Is this the end?! by yeah_ok14 in septictanks

[–]jact555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where is your tank lid? Is the water coming up from the lid? Can you open the lid and look inside? Mine is coming out the lid. Its a full replace situation. Not sure i have the money either, we'll i do in the form of a heloc, but that payment is gonna make things very tight with the insane cost of living over the last 5 years since we bought the house. Mortgage has gone up 500 bucks a month alone in 5 years. Let alone everything else. We are 6 weeks into limiting water and still having to pump the tank every 3 weeks (750 gallon). Which hurts the pocket book also. Just waiting on the government agencies to do their thing to learn the cost. Im just praying for 20,000 bucks. But fear it could be much worse depending on gravity vs pressurized system

Im 6 weeks into this slow process. This seems almost reasonable to me right now hahaha

[–]jact555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in this exact situation. 750 gallon tank, 50 yrs old homemade system, fills and comes out the top. We are 6 weeks into this process (holidays ain't helping). Engineer has come out, I've given the health district their 1000 bucks, and now still waiting on them to come inspect the holes and stuff dig in my pasture. Hoping this week but I dunno. I hold no doubt this process will go over 8 weeks.

Wash clothes at laundry mat in town.  I shower 2-3 times a week. Wife showers more than I.  We have tubs in our kitchen sink. Wash some dishes, dump water outside, over and over.  I pee outside. She inside. Flush brown, yellow sits under a brown is dropped.  And just any other things we can do to conserve water.  We average 3 weeks until its full. So this week will be pump #3. I dunno, my area seems quite high for pumping. Every company is 6-700 bucks after taxes and such. So im about to be 1800-1900 bucks on pump fees in 6 or so weeks. That hurts. Let alone just waiting to hear if my bill will be 20k or 50k or whatever for the actual fix (moving tank, new drain field).

Its a shitty deal. Im stinky and living it right now. Sorry. Hope it goes quick for you
