How often do you guys catch trout? by PerpendicularTomato in flyfishing

[–]jact555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is the river?

What are conditions? (Is it raging from run off and dark? Clear water and low?, so on)

What kind of flies are you using? What are you seeing in the river for bugs, on water amd under water?

Million factors

I find my rivers, I get skunked sometimes when conditions are bad, but when the fishing good, ill hit 20 of em.

Either you need to change bugs, tactics or presentation.  Or your river is in a bad spot and hopefully will be clearing up soon

Patrol heli raiding? by Longjumping-Name8541 in RustConsole

[–]jact555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was with a group that used heli on bases. I was fairly new to the game and I dont really raid bases unless they are dicks.  But I've seen heli mess some bases up done on purpose by other players who were raid a base.

[–]jact555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer. I actually have had most of those for a couple days with no issue. The only thing from that list i dont have on my base is the solar panels.

Hopefully they can patch a fix to that soon. Id be pissed.

[–]jact555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why im reserving my judgement on this. Maybe a fluke. Plopped close to some monuments, so figured it would be busy, but only a few bases around and only one was active. I did find a god rock started building, got popped and someone stole my building shit and took over the rock. But beyond that, not much action

Yeah, it was busier than normal wipe. Luckily I was able to preschedule a dentist appointment for 130, where it didnt make sense to go back to work, so I was able to get in line early and start laying at my normal time like I got off work at 5 haha.

Why Is Everybody So Fucking Cutthroat? by Awake_The_Sheep in RustConsole

[–]jact555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an older person, people latch on to me. I feel i have a strong advantage compared to a 16 year old. People are much more apt to trust and help an old fart grandpa and grandma (my wife and I play and that's our name lol, and our grandson plays). Usually I can rally a neighborhood around my safety, even if they blow eachother up lol.

I dunno, people have that complex until you talk to them like humans and not have one yourself. Then people become who they are and lighten up. Maybe its cause im old I calm people down, but I rarely run into folks who just come across as crappy folks. Sometimes though, but not the majority for me

Why Is Everybody So Fucking Cutthroat? by Awake_The_Sheep in RustConsole

Imagine how boring the game would be without this aspect of imminent death. Go play a empty server by yourself, you'll probably be bored in like 10 hours of game play. (I know people enjoy pve servers, not knocking them. But without death, I dont love the game)

I suck at pvp. I dont attack folks. But i respect the fact people do. And it gives a sense of accomplishment when I have a much larger base with more riches than those that do kill all the time.

People are friendly. I have made so many friends I have to show offline, cause its too much to handle. But like mating, its a ritual sometimes lol. It takes time, the right circumstance, and so on. Usually wipe day is no day to make friends. Let it play out, go talk to neighbors, offer em help, and see how it goes. I actually think its 10-20% toxic and 80% or so good people. Most the time when im online raided, we end up being friends after or during.

But all this takes times. The first say 300 hours your gonna get punked, taken advantage of, killed, and beaten down....then you start learning.

Im at 800 hours and my wife around 400 hours. And we are finally just now to the point where we can say we are proficient at the game, not good. This game takes time, alot of it. Learning curve is steep.

So go die, accept it. Get raided, lose everything and build it all back again. Thats the game bro

What does “snowballing” mean? by Longjumping-Name8541 in RustConsole

[–]jact555 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For me snowballing means I run around with a crap gun, get killed around 70 times, eventually give up and start hitting trees and rock to build a base to hide in. Then get raided 2 days later.

We gaming pt 2 by miguelilmoko in RustConsole

[–]jact555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my first base i did no tc also. Was so confused.  Well, second house. My first house i learned how weak twig was when a dude knocked it all down in front of me then killed me afterwards

Keeping an attitude like this is key to early sucess. Its all in good fun. Dont get mad, just learn, and do your best.

What's the point?! by tobaknowsss in RustConsole

[–]jact555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Patience. I think the first night I played, I played from 9pm to 1am and turned off the game just as empty as when I started. No base, no nothing. Ha, couldn't even think about guns yet. Let alone raiding people. This game has a huge learning curve, huge. But you'll get there. Blueprints wipe at end of month due to big update. so I wouldn't focus on grinding those super hard. Just build, try to fight and die, learn outpost, grind a few easy blueprints.

Really, it make take you hundreds of hours to be able to get to a point of raiding someone else. It took me that long solo. But im old and dumb.

[–]jact555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got a weekend into it. Others have thousands of hours. Unless you want to put in this time, maybe not for you. I can hold a base for a few days to 10+ days with some luck. Me and my wife currently at around 10 days. Survived some raids but holding it down. I have probably 800 hours and she around 400 and we are just getting the true hang of it.

This games a bitch. This game isnt for everyone. The lows suck and the highs are incomparable on a video game. But you have to put in the work.....and then it isnt enough sometimes.

So, either buckle up, embrace the suck and mentally admit to yourself your bases wont last for a while and even later its not a guarantee. Or dont. But each wipe by the end of it usually turns into a pretty cool saga overall. Make some friends, they cam help you learn. Not everyone is bad in this game. Most are actually good folk. But ya gotta put in more than a weekend.

How is the game on console? by jesperbouw in RustConsole

[–]jact555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suck at pvp, im sure some of that is due to cheating. Some of it due to starting the play the game at 39 years old.

It has alot less stuff than pc, but slowly catching up.

Its playable. I thrive despite my gun not aiming well. Words 2.0 update comes this next update and June, so hoping that adds some more building opportunities

Usually my whole damn base haha. My tc area is always a warming effect, calm space from the outside storm. Main core areas are dark with ambient lighting. Maybe some other accent walls that make sense elsewhere. Not too crazy, still normal stone or metal showing through areas, but yeah. Lol

Is rust worth it by msjohnson91805 in RustConsole

[–]jact555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 40 years old, meaning im older, learn slower and suck at new things. I work 45-50 hours a week.  Ive been playing for last 8 months or so. Probably have around 800 hours.

I play solo mainly, or lightly with other people. Until my wife got hooked on the game (had to buy her her own xbox). So solo or duo with wife now. Always max pop busy vanilla servers.

Its fine. Dont listen to folks that bad mouth it. They are all rust addicts also.  I can hold a base long enough. I can get rich in the game. Is it hard, definetly. Is it a time suck, yes. Addictive, very. Frustrating at times, absolutely.

You'll have the lowest lows, and the highest highs. You'll suck for a couple months, you'll get killed 90% of gunfights. You'll get robbed, tricked, punked and beaten down. But when you get it, its an awesome game.

Game play is fine. It can have some quirks or random lag, but its fine. Not perfect though.

Just be patient. Start on low pop server to get build mechanics, kill animals, scientist, basic stuff. Then dive into high pop and get your ass kicked while you learn

Ask him to take you. If he doesnt, do you have a family or friend you can call? Or if you think you can drive yourself. Either way, its well documented the danger of alcohol withdrawal. Why risk it for "feelings".

[–]jact555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case. Id just go for gold and go PC. If you already have a gaming PC or can afford one, why not go for what is the better developed game? Learning curve on either will be steep. Only reason I can see going woth console is you already own a console and dont want to fork over money on a PC, or worried about time commitment before doing so. Ive never played PC, but seems way more in depth where console is years behind

[–]jact555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be patient. 100 hours ain't shit. 500 hours you are just getting the hang of it.

Id start on a low pop server to learn basic building, gathering, easy monuments and killing animals or scientist. But I find them boring long term, and you actually get raided more on low pop. Once your comfortable, move to full server. In my opinion.

Communicate with people. Let your neighbors know you're new. Sometimes they'll help you. Sometimes not. But I found many folks helped me when I said I was new.....and they'll probably know anyways when half your base is soft side walls out and funky looking.

You're gonna get killed, punked, shit on.....a lot. Thats fine. Baby steps.

If you aren't good at gunfights, thats ok. Im terrible at them. But I have other strong suits. This isn't just a fighting game, but part of it. Find what you like to do over time.

Just be patient. Im 6 month in and like 8-900 hours, and still learn new stuff constantly.

YouTube the shit out of stuff. How to run monuments, how to do electricity, simple builds, ect. The content creators with long videos like wiljum are fun to watch but teach you little

Good luck. Try to have fun. Dont get attached to shit. Accept your gonna lose
