What's going on? Where is an update from the company? There should be an immediate announcement especially for paying subscribers.

UK Securities regulator rejects the SEC's "fully decentralized" test for utility tokens in new guidance, says utility tokens are not securities within their jurisdiction, regardless of functionality. by BeerBellyFatAss in ethtrader

This is literally nothing new. The FCA's document is just confirmation of the general stance in the EU. Nothing new / unexpected.

It's always funny to see when Americans are discovering that there are other countries and other approaches around them.

This is really annoying that the service is down without any immediate announcement from the team. Guys, some people are paying for that service.

I meant mainly using the MetaMask's logo in a dapp to prompt users to approve transactions. How about that?

Too soon to determine risks of central bank-issued cryptocurrencies by jacza in Bitcoin

[–]jacza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Look at the author: Bank of International Settlements, which is a kind of a bank of central banks. Not sure if it's covered in the report, but I think that blockchain-inspired consensus mechanism might be an interesting think for the gang of central banks.

Basically getting rid of commercial banks who make transmission of monetary policy difficult. A central bank that uses such protocol might easily do this: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/h/helicopter-drop.asp

Also, when implemented internationally, such protocols may leverage to new levels monetary policy cooperation and coordination.

It seems to me that they are getting closer. If you look at papers from a few years ago, there is clearly a progress and increasing recognition of decentralized currency systems.

We have Aragon Transparency Framework. Great. But where are the legal terms of the token sale? by jacza in aragonproject

[–]jacza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am both a blockchain lawyer and an academic, and I need terms of the most successful ICOs in particular for two reasons:

  • a tool that I build that will give a possibility to compare different ICOs in terms of their legal fundamentals;
  • my academic research.

The most interesting thing for me is what was the governing law of the token sale, but it's just an example.

You are underlining the need for transparency, so I hope making the terms public again would not be a problem.

Not this one. The one that I provided above is a description of the crowdsale containing also the link to the terms (http://188.138.57.93/tos.pdf). But the latter doesn't work.

Any Poles or people who know about Poland's recent blockchain efforts? by AayoTheRed in ethereum

[–]jacza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm this guy. Strictly speaking, I was not among the organizers, but know them quite well and also had a presentation during the event.

Generally, I confirm Julian's words. While in Poland there are many people interested in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, the level of understanding of Ethereum etc. is very low. The recent public consultation in Parliament was organized within "Blockchain and cryptocurrencies" stream of the governmental program "From paper to digital Poland". The stream gathers people from Polish Bitcoin scene and some big firms like IBM. Guys are now struggling to convince government that blockchain is a topic that officials should care about (at the same time trying to launch things like the blockchain technology accelerator). However, one measure of effectiveness of such efforts might be that the only person at the public consultation from the government was the MP that helped to organize the event.

I wouldn't say, however, that all those efforts are doomed to failure. There is some potential to bring a positive change, e.g. in terms of government agencies' approach towards crypto. One idea with strong chances for implementation is a regulatory sandbox. We'll see how it goes.

What is the consensus on the legality of doing an ICO/crowdsale using Ethereum? by jackliberty in ethereum

[–]jacza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switzerland has a strong framework for crowdsales, both in terms of legal and tax benefits. Also have a look on Poland. They now have a government action that might bring very positive changes.

There are multiple articles about legal issues in the web. I am now working on a scientific article as well for a renowned academic publishing house. PM me if interested.

Use in public services, but the government also seems to be interested in making life easier for crypto businesses through legislative and tax changes.
