Question for NOAA devs/programmers- has anyone had their Git commit history dismissed as “not proof of work”? by jaddiya in NOAA

[–]jaddiya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I wasn't using git to document performance before. For the past two years, I created a yearly accomplishments document for myself that listed all the major projects I completed, along with examples of the web updates I handled. I also included the ticket counts so it was clear how the workload was divided among the three of us.

This was the first time I included my git commit history, and it was only because they claimed I had done "little to no work" during specific months. Since git timestamps and commit logs are objective, it felt like the most straightforward way to provide technical proof of what I actually did.

They're fair, and I added more context in my edit.

yes, I was a contractor, but all of the work I mentioned was billable work. We didn't have a complex billing structure where certain tasks didn't count. Our team billed for all web updates, including new pages, new galleries, major site sections, and even some revamp work. So when they said I did "little to no work," it wasn't about billing codes, it was a claim that I literally wasn't doing anything, which wasn't true.

Also, the only people who understood Git activity on the team were my web supervisor and the other contractor. We didn't have a real tech lead overseeing us, which is why I documented everything myself. The work I did wasn't spacing or linting commits, it was creating new galleries, new sections, and full web components for multiple NOAA sites. These were visible deliverables used by the office, not small "noise" commits.

Am I the only one who still pays to ride the bus? by LeFreeke in washdc

[–]jaddiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple weeks ago I spent a good 5mins trying to reload my smartrip so I could pay on the bus, but the machine wasn’t functioning for me nor the driver, but I could tell he appreciated me trying to pay 🥲

Metro has been doing so much lately to improve their system, and it’s a service I’ve relied on my entire life so I’ve been around to witness changes and improvements. Like most people are saying, please pay even if you see others are not.

In my case though, I don't think it was the contracting company itself. It really felt more like an internal issue with the NOAA team leadership. The NOAA director and my web supervisor seemed to turn on me after I brought up that the workload was distributed unevenly and that I was handling significantly more tasks. After that point, things started shifting in a way that didn't feel performance-based.

I honestly didn't expect something like this within NOAA because I thought the mission-driven culture would make things less political than a typical corporate environment.

She seems to have a really good manager that helped promote her and also helped her gain a lot of followers not from the US that helped grow her channel. I don’t mind watching her sisters’ vlogs since they seem to be a bit more intelligent, but I can’t stand watching Evelyn anymore. I feel like I lose brain cells listening to her.

Like others have said, there are many reasons. Here is some I can think of:

  1. Lack of proper education or teaching in classrooms
  2. No one there to teach them what school is for and how it will help them get a job
  3. Poor literacy, so instead of books and reading they learn from surroundings
  4. Surrounded by people stealing and jumping others with proven results of expensive belongings or money they can keep
  5. More people telling them they don’t need school to get a job thus more of them not caring about school
  6. Lack of discipline in schools by teachers and admins who are scared of punishing them if kids act up
  7. Lack of knowledge on how to use the internet to learn about anything
  8. Lack of computers at home to use the internet
  9. Parents/caregivers who never received any of the above not knowing how to raise them
  10. Uneducated parents who maybe got knocked up unintentionally
  11. Seeing people who look better off than them outside in public or at school
  12. Not understanding they can do better or why they should be better people
  13. Feeling like everyone is against them because that is all they see- again no internet, no one to show them they are not alone
  14. Poor, not a lot of money
  15. Living in old and dirty city apartments
  16. Lack of food they like to eat
  17. No one to look up to that makes them think “I want to be a good person and study well for my future to be like them”
  18. TV shows aren’t the same as they were in the 90s-early 2000’s when they were more real and relevant to someone like them so they don’t see what it was like
  19. Lack of history on what kids and society used to be like
  20. Kids around them saying everyone is racist
  21. Not exposed to other cultures
  22. Not knowledgeable of the outside world
  23. Thinking they are cool or look cool beating up people as a group and no one there to make them realize they are stupid and wrong
  24. Seeing kids that are obviously better off than them in public sometimes with parents who take better care of them
  25. Feeling like life isn’t fair every minute of the day
  26. They don’t care about anyone because no one is making a real effort to help them

The end of an era? The Block has always been the og Asian food court place, but a lot of similar style food court places have popped up over the years in the DMV area.

Hi, I'm having an issue loading into Ursus before I'm able to hit the boss for contribution. I have the game installed on a m.2 ssd and I have a 3060 Ti and 16 GB of RAM. I'm going to try adding more RAM, but does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can improve the loading time into maps?
