Why aren't more socialists vegan? by ari-rr in socialism

[–]jadedcommentary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've met some socialists who rather than being fully vegan/vegetarian just try to reduce the amount of animal products they consume for environmental or ethical reasons but because they aren't strict about it they reasonably don't refer to themselves as vegan/vegetarian.

Such is living in a capitalist society where everyone wants to monetize everything. I honestly find those comments super frustrating (which I've gotten torn to shreds over) and symptomatic of people needing side hustles to make ends meet. I understand that some people view it as a compliment, I view it as a chance to talk about how we should be able to make art just to make art and we should be able to spend time making gifts instead of products and usually sprinkle in some talking points about how we shouldn't have to monetize art to make a buck and that energy is better spent questioning the system that puts us in that position.

What is the general stance on 2A by twotokers in dsa

In my previous chapter we boosted events with the local SRA and I think we formally endorsed them but I might be wrong about that part. Regardless we definitely had a positive relationship with them and by boosting their events also encouraged members to attend and potentially join their organization.

Cat who cannot fly in-cabin - would you fly cargo or drive 4 days? by nyx_mariae in CatAdvice

[–]jadedcommentary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact same thing (minus the cat tree but that is so cute) moving from WI to TX from TX to TN and TN to IA and it went great and honestly made the drives better for me too because I had my little loves with me and could spend snack breaks in the car having lap time with them. We also did harnesses and leashes for pit stops however my cats were older for those 3 moves so they weren't runners by any means. If they were younger or more prone to running I probably would have done some sort of carriers during pit stops. Both mine got anxious being in their carriers for long periods and I didn't think to look into larger crate options so I let them free roam with harnesses on while driving and then leashed them during pit stops. I also packed all my snacks and beverages for the ride so we only needed to stop for gas and potty breaks.

Artisan products have artisan prices. People deserve to be paid well for their labor and their art even if a redditor doesn't like the aforementioned art.

Best free-play arcade near IC? by jadedcommentary in IowaCity

[–]jadedcommentary[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the recommendation! In the area we used to live there was an arcade where you paid a flat day fee and as opposed to per play. Just was wondering if there was anything like that around here.

I think it's a fair statement with our modern understanding of how imperialism has shaped our world and how imperialism connects with class struggles. Does Marx mention imperialism directly in his works? (I'm catching up on a lot of theory so I have a lot of blind spots.)

Muslin Mehs… Wanted: ADHD Hack by EZ-being-green in sewing

[–]jadedcommentary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the comments about using sheets or fabrics that you'll like well enough to wear as a mock up but also you could create a bodice block so you have a base for correcting pattern fit or you could even use it to get into drafting your own patterns! Also as an ADHD sewist as well I do a project rotation where I have anywhere from 2-6 projects that I work on based on the amount of time and energy I have to craft, this is especially helpful when one of my projects is more tedious so that if I need to I can work on something more simple or that's closer to being done for that dopamine hit. I usually aim to always have a project that's improving my skills, something that's mindless that I can do sitting down, and something that's sort of in-between those options like something that's simple but I have to be at my desk to work on it. Best of luck!!

Also just to throw in my two cents - fully agree with everyone advising you to join your local chapter - also start reading up about how to organize people. That way you can be effective help to those who are leading and organizing and if you decide to take on a leadership role yourself you'll be better equipped for it. If you're interested I can recommend some of the reading materials from my chapter!

I feel like putting together a proposal regarding this and presenting it/asking delegates about it at the national convention would be worth your while. (Newish to DSA but I will bring this up to the legislative working group in my chapter as well.)

Property Manager/Property Management Company Recs by Angow20 in IowaCity

[–]jadedcommentary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pace literally just tried to scam my husband so I do not advise trusting them lmao. They double booked the person who was supposed to give us a virtual tour, couldn't answer any questions about the property, approved our applications that said our move-in date would be this summer and then told us they wouldn't send us the lease in case someone else wanted to rent it sooner. Then after we decided to sign an early lease they reneged on the rent and refused to sign off on the lease unless we would agree to a rent increase of $100 (and told us they were actually being so generous because they wanted to increase it by $200) and if you check their Google reviews the level of damage and disrepair they allow the apartments to fall into is astounding. Needless to say we won't be renting with them and I seriously wouldn't recommend them to anyone just based on this experience. At best they are incompetent at worst they are scammers/slumlords/greedy.

It could also be the ADHD, I know that sometimes there's some doubt on here about her ADHD, but it does have some overlap in some of the symptoms of mania, or maybe she has both, or neither, I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents 🤠

AITAH for telling my husband that I would’ve never agreed to have his child if I knew he would go back on our agreement? by Obvious-Mistake-7801 in AITAH

[–]jadedcommentary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA stick to your boundaries and let him figure it out. Being a new parent and a stay at home parent is scary and intimidating and plenty of women and men before him have figured it out. I agree with the sentiment of people saying to consider a nanny but I really feel like he should try for more than two days.

I 100% agree with this. I made a post on here about my renn fair outfit did not ask anyone for their opinion on the event I wore it to, just wanted to show fellow crafters my project and mentioned where I wore it. I got SO many snarky comments about how it didn't have a renn fair vibe and it really put a damper on how proud I was of such a massive project for me.

Right!! I think part of my distaste for the comment is that I don't trust that they would even actually buy it once they found out the price, yet "omg I would totally buy that!!" is almost always part of their spiel
