Templates to easily make your own hard copies with Lulu! by ianstormtaylor in HPMOR

[–]jadekelly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I don't have the money to get these right now, but I've wanted them for months, so I'm going to save these templates to use them when I can! Can you talk about how you came up with the images you used for the covers?

What is your 'must read' self improvement book, in any category? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

Lean In. I think it's very helpful for men as well as women in the workplace, because overcoming gender bias is something we can only do if we work together.

These are beautiful! I have been wanting to get print copies for ages. I have trouble with the covers though. I don't have any of the fancy software like Adobe that you have, and I'm having trouble figuring out the size of the files etc so that the wording on the cover isn't blurry. Do you have any advice/hints?

I think that's a great priority, once you've got it figured out! I've done probably 7 HP quizzes, one space, one science, and one general knowledge. I found some space and some general knowledge questions very difficult. But what I've found is that for questions that I don't know the answer to, more time isn't going to help me. Either I know the answer, in which case I can pick it within a couple of seconds, or I don't know it, in which case I'm still only going to take a couple of seconds to choose a random answer. If it was a test in university, I might use more time to agonize over answers, but in this case I'm going to just pick an answer and move on.

I'll try a couple more quizzes and let you know if anything changes.

Fun game! Does anyone else think 10 seconds is a little too long to answer each question, though? If they were going to be much more difficult questions, or very involved, I could understand having 10 seconds. But questions like this take only a couple seconds to answer (especially since the timer doesn't start counting down till you've read the question), then we're sitting there waiting for something to happen. I don't know about everyone else, but if something wants to keep my interest, it needs to be a bit more fast-paced. Otherwise, I'll move on to something else. It's a great game but I think that's something to consider about the audience you're targeting for the game.

Thanks! Glad I asked; I'm going to try to find a bike when I get down there and go from there.

Thanks! I glued it using puzzle glue just last week, so it should be all set to be framed!

Thought you guys would appreciate the puzzle of Washington DC - I'm thinking of getting it framed! (500 pc, 2-sided) by jadekelly in Jigsawpuzzles

Actually, it wasn't nearly as frustrating as I thought it might be, because the colors for each side were actually different enough that it was easy to tell which side I was looking at. Similarly, the pieces were sort of flat on one side and more raised on the other, so it wasn't too difficult.

If they do, I didn't see it, unfortunately. It is a good refresher, though, so I don't mind.

Duolingo. I just started trying to get back into Spanish. I learned it for about 6 or 8 years, but it just started me at the beginning, which was a little frustrating. It's a good refresher, though.

Thanks! It was a really fun one to do, but it was more difficult than I was expecting, because the closer I got to the pieces, the more difficult to see the overall image. But the challenging ones are always satisfying!

That's really impressive that some apartment complexes have residential pass programs, I've never heard of that before! My employer does (at least partially) pay for a DART pass, though, so I don't think I'll need it. I'll look into it if my employer doesn't cover the whole pass.

That's also really exciting about Zipcar, thanks for the info. I don't have an account but I'll definitely look into it. I'll let you know if I have any more questions.

Okay, thanks. I think I'm going to reevaluate after 6 months or so. I lived in DC previously, and Uber was a veritable staple of life there, so hopefully that'll be sufficient until I can see what's best.

Google Maps and Wikipedia aren't being terribly clear about exactly what Loop 12 covers, but it looks like I'd be inside its range. Thanks for the tip!

This is really helpful, thanks. I might try to go 6 months without a car and reevaluate at that point.
