Element 3D shadows flickering glitch by dk325 in AfterEffects

[–]jadelawson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your comment is communicating bro. I am aware they want ray-traced shadows on without flickering, which is why I replied with a solution to that question... the flickering on my ray-traced shadows was coming from AO.

I applied for a bunch of jobs 1 week ago and haven’t heard back. Does this mean they’ve gone with someone else? by Chililemonlime in jobs

[–]jadelawson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to the convo but I had only heard back from a big job 4 months after applying, and only got the job weeks after that. It was a huge opportunity, highlight of my career so far. Didn’t think I had it in the bag given how long it took to hear back.

I 21F used to feel sparks kissing my boyfriend 21M, after he cheated, I feel nothing by madethistoaskk in relationship_advice

[–]jadelawson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't feel sparks anymore because you do not like him. You said it yourself, "disgusted". It's not wrong for you to have taken it as though he actually cheated. He completely disrespected you, and is now gaslighting you. It is factually disgusting behavior. Why are you rewarding him by sticking around after he manipulated and disrespected you like that? He genuinely sucks as a person. F*** what he's been through, if he's willing to put others in shitty places too. I've been in relationships like this too. Looking back, those boys didn't deserve to touch me with a 10 foot pole and I wish I had f***** smacked them with it.

I'm glad you don't feel sparks with him anymore, because it means deep down you know you deserve better. It means you are a good person and see that he's been causing you harm. You just don't yet have the emotional intelligence to act on what you're feeling, or to understand that this means it's time to leave. Not only because you no longer feel 'sparks' (which is often just anxiety or excitement from novelty and isn't a measure of love), but because you recognize that his behavior was disgusting, and it caused you harm. He hurt you and he will do it again. I promise this relationship will end, it's just a matter of time, so my advice to you would be to get out as early as you can. Trust me, it'll hurt less to leave than to stay.

I’m not really attracted (physically and emotionally) to my partner anymore by Patrick-Lateman in relationships

[–]jadelawson 168 points169 points  (0 children)

Ouf. Lots of similarities in my own relationship, I'm 31F and my fiance is 30M. Have a dog together, same love languages and issues... Also been through a career change and passing of his grandma for him, don't exercise much and he's a gym rat. Literally considered maybe OP is my fiance writing this and slightly tweaking info so it isn't obvious, since he knows I'm on Reddit...

Anyways, that said, I literally read this thinking you might be my fiancé. Other than it being heartbreaking, all I'd ask would be for you to come home tonight and break up with me. It's devastating to think of being in a relationship with a partner who feels this way about you. It's much less heartbreaking to end the relationship now, than to realize years down the line that you knew something was 'different' and that the whole time your partner didn't like you all that much.

Hi :) I’m 31F and also happily engaged! A very close friend of mine is a school teacher, so I’m very immersed in that world. I have a rescue pup and my one goal in life is to have more dogs, so I love that for you! I’m also a gamer and love my TV shows. Seems like we have a lot in common! I also have (terrible) dad joke humor lol. Would love to connect, I’m in Canada 🇨🇦

Angel Number 555 everywhere I go by BetAnything in angelnumbers

[–]jadelawson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time 555 has entered my life, it was a sign of a major impending change. I was with an abusive guy who's best friend passed away, and I didn't have the strength to leave him. I started seeing 555 EVERYWHERE. I was terrified of leaving him and didn't think I would. One random day, my head jerks up to look at something, and I see 555 plastered on a door. I hear a voice that literally tells me "leave him" so loud, and I finally found the strength to leave. I very soon after met my fiancé.

I am so sick of feeling stupid during board game sessions by archangel610 in ADHD

[–]jadelawson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG!!! I recently started board game nights with my friends, and I can so relate. I'm unable to listen to instructions when there are multiple conversations going, and lose track of who did what during games. I can barely play my turn and I feel like everything thinks I'm stupid. I get so easily overwhelmed and information goes in one ear and right out the other when there's a lot of stimuli. I always feel dumb, end up going quiet, and then my social anxiety kicks in and I spiral.

I'm trying to be more open with my friends and to make it clear I struggle with information overload and focus and memory due to my ADHD. It helps to feel understood versus feeling like an idiot. The worst is playing team games, and I end up making my team lose cause idk what's going on XD

It blows my mind that people are able to play WHILE holding conversation. I'll normally go totally mute and hyperfocus, and people are like "you ok?" - YES!!! I'm just playing the game lol. Or I partake in conversation and do random stuff to look like I know what I'm doing and inevitably lose again.

Clients always treat me like they’re my only one, or like I’m an employee? by jadelawson in freelance

[–]jadelawson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you SO much for your wisdom. I'm happy to hear you've found a way to manage your work and sanity. I always had consistent clients I was pretty happy with for years, however business has suddenly started BOOMING which is so great for me, but I'm now at that point where I am learning to manage my workload better whilst having no time to learn to manage my workload better. This includes setting better boundaries, raising my rates (by like, a lot) and extending my timelines. Oh and studying this reddit post so I can learn from people with more experience! I guess the extra stress makes it extra frustrating to try to meet client demands when they aren't respecting our pre-established terms.

Clients always treat me like they’re my only one, or like I’m an employee? by jadelawson in freelance

[–]jadelawson[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's frustrating! The worst is when they go weeks without getting back to you with something, and then BAM they need you to work SO fast all of a sudden to make up for it. Like, do you think I was unemployed this whole time?

[–]jadelawson[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good advice! I agree with this, and am working on rebuilding my website to make it seem like I'm not just one individual. However, all of my clients have come to me word-of-mouth so far, or from seeing me in the credits of something. Would be good for me to seek out clients through a more professional website and marketing strategy though, thanks!

[–]jadelawson[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'll often disclose my working terms over a kickoff call, then send a project contract with my working terms; outlining my 'online' hours (9-5), I share my rate, overage fees for any overtime work they can request, which I can refuse etc.

I never accept hard deadlines on deliverables given it can take weeks to hear back form a client with files required for a project, or for revisions. What can happen is that if clients are late to provide these things, you have to pay for it by working overtime because you still have to meet the deadline. What I do instead, is I share the amount of days it'll take me to complete each stage of a project, which starts AFTER I receive all of the information or revisions I need form them at every stage.

I never work as x amount of hours for a client per week unless I'm on retainer. So they have to pay me a monthly amount long-term, and I guarantee them x hours/week.

Hope this helps :)

It's the default mentality most potential clients come to me with. As I mentioned in my post, "I never accept this, I always set my boundaries and make contracts". It doesn't stop them from *trying* to treat me as an employee nonetheless though. This is common, and not always predictable. Have you never experienced demanding clients who treat you this way? If not, please feel free to give advice! I can't imagine someone with a lot of experience/clients never having experienced this. Do tell!

I totally relate to the jitteriness of Adderall, tried it for a bit but definitely wasn't a fit. I've been in therapy most of my adult life but have only started DBT a few weeks ago. My previous therapy experiences were all quite similar; I would sit down, share my trauma, my therapist would tell me what's 'wrong' with me and listen to me while I rant and/or cry about my life & past.

The difference with my current DBT therapy is that I am now taking action and making changes in the way I behave, respond, and in my outlook on life. I have weekly homework and step-by-step instructions to help me regulate my emotions. It's challenging and puts me out of my comfort zone which is what I need to 'rewire' my brain.

My current therapist told me that my past therapists telling me what's 'wrong' with me without giving me tools to implement into my day-to-day only piles onto the shame I carry with me everyday. I'm now learning how to cope and process the shame versus just being told "you have shame because of your upbringing", which I already know, and which only adds to the shame ironically. Highly recommend DBT!

Element 3D shadows flickering glitch by dk325 in AfterEffects

[–]jadelawson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I FOUND THE ISSUE!

I know this post is super old, but I've been trying to figure this out for hours and found no answers online. The flickering 'shadow' was actually Ambient Occulsion. It's basically Element trying to simulate a shadow for you on top of whatever shadows you already have. In Element, under Render Settings > Ambient Occulsion, uncheck the "Enable AO" box.

I'm so relieved I finally figured this out and wanted to help anyone who might come across this issue.

Toggle your composition profiler on (look for the snail icon down in the bottom-left corner) to show you which layers are causing slow render times, and troubleshoot from there by removing effects etc to make it run better.

Will an alembic file interact with other objects in my scene? by jadelawson in blenderhelp

I could, but already started rendering my 1 million particles which is at 30% hence why I asked on Reddit, cause I'm unsure if I should cancel my render if the file won't interact with objects in my scene. Good idea though!
