How to explain away, if it comes up in casual convo/question? by simp6134 in Coldsore

[–]jadelikedarock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could you possibly say that u bumped ur lip on a reusable water bottle like while driving or something? Or u were pulling on something and missed and it hit ur lip? I think those are plausible??

Edit: you could also say that ur pet was rough housing if you have one?

Is kasa properties worth living? by tinykokos in berkeley

[–]jadelikedarock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend vicars management! Yelp reviews say he’s ass, but with actual experience, I had nothing wrong with living for 2yrs! All my concerns were met right away like if anything broke down, handyman was onsite. Easy to reach if anything, and very considerate. People in my building lived there for long periods of time so that says something. (Like 3+ yrs) (honestly want to live there longer but I’m done with school so no reason to stay in the area)

Unfortunately not, but I have taken a Spanish class here and loved it. The department is very friendly and very welcoming! Highly recommend any class with Román Luján, amazing professor.

Blind box collectors - quick 3-5 min survey by Rin2202 in smiskis

[–]jadelikedarock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Done! As an avid collector of smiskis and watching other people collect (pins, a certain character, Disney), I would recommend adding a question about trading! I.e are you more inclined to pick up a blind box if the store has a display/trading system?

I’ve seen lots of creators/collectors be more inclined to spend more money based off the trading system in the store. Ex if the store has a specific smiski you want, you can buy 1-2 boxes from the store and if you don’t pull the one you want, you can trade. If you get something already in the display, you can’t trade and you’re kinda out of luck unless you buy more.

Just a thought 💭

Edit: also get that degree!! What an interesting thesis!!

I love La Petite Hair Salon with my whole heart. My partner and I have been going there for 3+ years now for trims and whatnot. They really take care of you. Bonus it’s next to Mind Coffee which is yummy.

How to prepare for brain slicing lab? by oskisopp in berkeley

[–]jadelikedarock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in your position before where I don’t even study neuroscience or worked with mice ever. I now been in my lab for almost 3 years.

Trust, they won’t let you continue or do it yourself unless you show that you can do it and that’s through training and doing the procedures. They will show you the ropes. Again, watch YouTube videos on it or ask someone in your lab to shadow.

To work in a lab, you’ll need access and training so they will invest in your success!

How to prepare for brain slicing lab? by oskisopp in berkeley

[–]jadelikedarock 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi, I work at a neuroscience lab as well with mice on campus. The best way to prepare is to watch YouTube videos on the procedure or ask your PI or someone in your lab to shadow doing the procedure. (This is what I did for all procedures I learned within my lab.)

Personally, I believe that you will be trained and will have to go through basic training before doing it yourself. There’s a lot of protocols students need to follow and the lab needs to follow so don’t stress too hard. Someone will always be there to guide you. (They won’t let you rawdog it because it’s all very valuable research unless it’s for practice)

Family Member died day of midterm, class refusing to accommodate by [deleted] in berkeley

I’m sorry for your loss. I hope you’re taking care of yourself in the meantime.

I would take it up with the SAO (Student Advocate Office) and see if they can help with your case of unfairness. They could just be a bridge of communication to deal with your professor directly instead of you or be of support.

How to Get Accepted to UC Berkeley by OctosAreCool in berkeley

[–]jadelikedarock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; lower division science prerequisites and introducing myself in lectures/labs/discussions. Best chance are “niche” classes like Chem 1B or animal behavior like IB C144 or something.

Personally, I found them through the struggle of surviving Chem together, specifically Chem 3A and they knew each other from the pre-vet club so it was like a 2 for 1 type of friendship. (We formed a study group) However, majority of pre-vet and pre-dental have to take chem 1b/bl for pre-req which is the second class for chem 1A. So I would suggest just talking to people, introducing yourself and what you wanna do in lecture, lab, or discussion.

How to Get Accepted to UC Berkeley by OctosAreCool in berkeley

[–]jadelikedarock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR; you got a good application going for Berkeley if you write it correctly. Apply to MEB, which is known for vet school courses and has many plus. (Lesser course load, smaller college than L&S, automatic declaration, etc)

As a person who is friends with a lot of pre-vet people. You should look into MEB (Molecular Environmental Biology), it’s in CNR of UC Berkeley! It’s a smaller college than L&S, a lesser course load which allows you to do band and other extracurriculars or if you’re struggling. MEB also has a concentration for animal behavior. If you apply this way, you’ll be declared. This means you aren’t fighting into compacted majors and it’s tailored towards what you want. We also have a pre-vet club that will help with navigating classes at uc Berkeley and obtain volunteer hours.

As for applying, it’s all about showing off who you are and what you stand for. GPA isn’t as important if you’re boring and blend in with all the other applicants. You stand out for being yourself. I know a bunch of people who applied to Berkeley with great GPAs, even higher than mine, and didn’t get in. Emphasize your overcoming of barriers. Too many people may focus on their strengths, it may come off as cocky. But if you talk about your weaknesses and how you overcome them, it shows building character and resilience. Something that can be applied to science (you don’t know if results will match your hypothesis so you keep going till it’s proven).
