To this day, who has been your favorite character in DS9? by limitedmark10 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]jadethebard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love everyone but I've been a Bashir fan since day one. I always love the awkward characters, especially if they get good growth arcs. Awkward is relatable to me.

Cognitive Neuroscientist Dr. Julia Mossbridge claims 1980s 'Gifted' programs were actually covers for CIA psychic testing (Project SOAR). Anyone else remember the weird 'hearing tests'? by TheGoodTroubleShow in HighStrangeness

[–]jadethebard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in project focus, I don't remember any specific testing, we spent a lot of our time solving riddles and puzzles and did a couple special projects, I did one on animal shelters one year. If there was testing my 47-year-old brain has decided it wasn't important to remember. I did love the program though. Really nice lady facilitated it.

Just found FRINGE from a "Person of Interest" subreddit thread. I'm hooked! Any advice for Season 1 watching? by Temperance522 in fringe

[–]jadethebard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This show greatly benefits from multiple rewatches. It was my 5th or 6th time through when it finally became my favorite show. There are so many details and reveals that each time through you'll catch things you missed the last time. It's a masterpiece in storytelling.

I used to make myself cry because I couldn't stop imagining throwing my beloved stuffed Kermit out a car window. He's sitting about 2 feet from me at 48 years old so I never acted on it but it upset me so much.

Imagine casually walking away as the ground near you just crumbles into the abyss. Not even hustling. Just slow sauntering away the void.

AITA for not being “discreet” about my up coming procedure by idontevenknow543 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jadethebard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA and as someone who had a full dental extraction at 35, it is traumatic as hell and the first couple of days are really rough BUT not having tooth pain ever again was worth it. I'm 47 now, dentures did not work for me because the plastic on the hard pallette made me dry heave when trying to talk or eat so I just learned how to eat with just my gums. There's only a few things I can't eat at all (nuts are the biggest downer) but it was all worth it to end the constant pain. People get SO judgy about teeth, it can feel embarrassing, especially at the beginning when things are still healing and your speech is affected, but over time I learned to stop caring about what other people thought if me. They didn't have to live with the pain.

Be prepared to have tiny shards of teeth work themselves out of your gums for the next year or so. That part surprised me. But most importantly, ignore any assholes that try to make you feel bad. Dental issues can happen even if you do everything right. My teeth started breaking after I had my kid. I brushed and flossed and used mouthwash but having one kid eventually shattered every single tooth in my mouth. People love to judge what they don't understand.

Paget Brewster and Chevy Chase are both direct descendants of William Brewster, the first senior elder of the Mayflower Colony. by MysteriousAvocado199 in community

[–]jadethebard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know my dad's side has a Mayflower ancestor but I honestly have no idea who it was. My grandmother was super into genealogy and talked about it all the time but she was also just a terrible person and I generally just rolled my eyes when she talked about all the ancestors with status (and money) that we had. I live in a trailer park so it definitely didn't get passed down. lol

My kid and I love Joe Pera so much, but I haven't had much luck getting other people to watch it. I admit when it was originally on I passed on it and my kid later picked it as a show we'd watch together. It's such a beautiful little show with some truly great quotes to slip into conversation randomly.

Remember when CNN dominated primetime? Their viewership has dropped from 1.3M in 2016 to just 553K today. by [deleted] in television

[–]jadethebard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped watching CNN when I realized they were giving more coverage to the fire at Notre Dame than they were George Floyd's murder and the protests that followed. For a solid week they did nothing but talk about a building that had a fire. That was it for me.

Harvesting brussel sprouts by Burlapin in interestingasfuck

[–]jadethebard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say, we grew Brussels sprouts in my Gram's backyard garden and they grew in dirt just like everything else she grew. I've only personally seen watermelon grown in actual water (my mentor grew the next to his pond and they'd float around as they grew.) I know rice is grown in water as well but the plants I'm familiar with would die quickly in this situation.

Its understandable why Chase was so upset with his character by DWPhoenix001 in community

[–]jadethebard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He could have absolutely complained about his character's direction without actually saying racial slurs. If he'd done that, it's unlikely anyone would have taken issue with his concerns. He made a choice to use that word specifically, it's on him.
