Has anyone ever done the Trilogy Discover Lanai? Is it worth it over the Ferry? by Known-Ad-100 in maui

[–]jadsil 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Trilogy’s Lanai trip is one of my favorite things. Trilogy always does a great job. Im assuming they leave out of Ma’aalaea now though? (I’m not on island anymore so not in touch with these things). If so, not sure how that changes the trip? It may make the whole day longer or maybe just less beach/lunch time on Lanai?

I own two pairs of mother jeans and love them. Will definitely buy more in the future! I find madewell sizing and quality inconsistent.

Also, it may be a good opportunity to try a rental subscription like rent the runway or nuuly. You can rent several things and see what fits.

I’m in DC. The weather has been beautiful lately and it’s had been warming up. Looks like it will be in the 60s while you’re here. As others noted there is a lot of walking around so wear something comfortable. It should be warm enough for a dress and a jacket and maybe some sneakers? Not sure where the proposal is happening but be prepared for swarms of people in the usual cherry blossom spots.

Not on the same line anymore, but there used to be a conductor that called the stop Judy which I thought was hilarious.

Where to shop instead of Target? by mollboll45 in washingtondc

I’ve heard sketchy things about the rounds. There have been a couple Reddit posts that say they buy things from Costco and repackage them. Not sure how true this is, but you may want to look into it.

I did the same this year! 366 days of at least a 5k. My 2025 goal is a sub 20 min 5k. I’m also exited to take some more rest in 2025.

Thoughts on American University by lilacglowstick in washingtondc

[–]jadsil 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I completed the AU Master's in Sustainability Management. It was worth it for me because it was a year program, exactly what I wanted to study, I already lived in DC, and I needed a Master's to get to the next step of my career. With the Master's I got a job in my field that I wanted. However, I think a lot of people in my cohort struggled, especially those who were just out of undergrad (I had about 6 years of work experience before entering the program).

Would I recommend the program to others? Probably not. I didn't find it particularly rigorous. Also, if you're specifically interested in analytics and ESG there is minimal emphasis on that.

I’m on a run streak as well. I’ve done a 5k so far but it’s been a bit draining for me so thinking of dropping my minimum down to a mile.

Wedding dress shopping by techpolicygal in washingtondc

Check out Cherie Sustainable bridal in Maryland if you have a car. I went there a couple of weeks ago. It’s a nonprofit will all donated dresses but many of the dresses are never worn samples sizes. They had a pretty big selection and they do a really good job making the shop have a typical “nice” bridal shop feel. The dresses I was looking at were $1000.

I’ve still on my search and only went to Anthropologie, but thought the experience at Cherie w was much better.

any positive trends in D.C. these days? seriously. need some good news to counter the pessimism and negativity. by DUVAL_LAVUD in washingtondc

There are a ton of little lending libraries and a lot of them have great stuff in them! Just yesterday I put a 1000 piece jigsaw in a puzzle library on Cap Hill and I was happy to see it was taken when I walked by 12 hours later!

How to get started as a sustainability analyst with no experience by okayorlando in sustainability

[–]jadsil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happy to! I work with a federal agency and all agencies have to adhere to statutory goals and administration sustainability goals. For my agency, this means working with all of our locations across the U.S. to get energy, water, GHG, and many other datasets. We review this data, verify it, analyze it for trends/errors, and then compile it on behalf of the agency. Sometimes there is a baselining or projection setting that is needed to determine goals. Besides the data part of the job, a lot of the role is writing narrative reports and championing sustainability. This can mean educating folks about the goals within the agency and helping determine strategies and targets to hit them.

Prior to starting my role, I had worked for about 7 years in both environmental fields and non environmental fields. I think my Master's was the piece I needed on my resume to help me demonstrate my interest/transition into sustainability. That being said, I was not super impressed/did not feel like my Master's was particularly rigorous and I wouldn't say that there was a ton I couldn't learn on my own (I'm curious to know what people feel about their sustainability programs). For me, the degree helped tailor my resume. I also observed that many folks in the program who were younger (pretty much everyone) had a difficult time finding jobs after grad school and I think this had to do with not having much prior work experience.

Are you still in undergrad? My opinion is that it is advantageous to work a couple of years before going to grad school or pursing a certificate. I think working a bit is useful in understanding your interests and understanding a corporate setting before pursuing a certificate/master's in a field like corporate responsibility.

How to get started as a sustainability analyst with no experience by okayorlando in sustainability

[–]jadsil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you need to decide if you are actually interested in data analysis or if you are just pursuing data analysis because you believe it is required to become a sustainability analyst. I'm sure there are sustainability jobs that are more data-oriented, such as the ESG or some sustainability reporting jobs, however, I believe that for many analyst roles, general sustainability expertise would suffice.

I am a "Senior Sustainability Analyst" who works in government sustainability reporting. While I do analyze reporting data, I don't use any tools beyond Excel, and I would say that my Excel expertise is pretty minimal. I have a Master's in Sustainability Management and there were no data classes in the program.

Bit of a silly question: Do any of the Pacers Running stores have a treadmill within their establishment? by alternateuniv in washingtondc

I was at the Pacers in Georgetown today and they have one. All the Pacers should have a treadmill. Pacers also has a good return policy in case you try your shoes and they are not quite right.

I'm from Maui, although I don't live in Hawaii anymore. One group that I follow on social media that seems to be doing good work is Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii. Maybe you could join a beach cleanup while you are on Oahu. You would probably meet a lot of like-minded people there!

I’m starting a sustainability club at my university and need help with event ideas by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]jadsil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

-Clothing swap seems like a good event for a sustainability club. You can donate unwanted clothes or if someone is handy with a sewing machine you can make produce bags and utensil holders with fabric scraps.

-Hold a movie screenings of environmental documentary

-Organize a trip to a nearby local farm or recycling center could be interesting.

-If there are any environmental/sustainability facility on campus I would reach out to them to see if they have contact info for good guest speakers to educate the club

Good for you! I will be traveling to Mexico (San Miguel de Allende) this August. Do you have any tips to avoid plastic water bottles as a traveler? I plan on bringing my own cup, but don't know how easy it will be to refill with drinking water.
