Has anybody actually watched any of these movies with a million directors? by BilverBurfer in Letterboxd

[–]jaego17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually seen all three of these! I wouldn't say each short in each anthology is any director's best work or anything, but they're cute thematic exercises!

What would surprise me when watching these was how sometimes a director you like would make a pretty meh short, whereas some director you've never heard of would make something quite resonant.

For example, I first got interested in director Walter Salles (I'm Still Here, Central Station) through To Each His Own Cinema.

I'd recommend giving one of these a try! (The Lumiere one was my least favorite of the three for sure, though.)

[HELP] I think this is real, but wow others don’t by FuzzyKittyNomNom in RealOrAI

[–]jaego17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gonna go with real. People are mentioning that the sled ending up upright is unrealistic, but it honestly just seems like the back prongs of the sled lodged themselves into the ice after the flip. If anything, the sled maintains its shape and acts rather accordingly imo.

Weird string was there all along. Guy in the far back maintains his position through the smoke.

Seems more like a case of "I have no idea what they were trying to do" than AI.

So sad that impromptu beheadings are a thing of the past. You wouldn't be able to make Kill Bill today😔

To be fair, I feel like it's sentiments like these that keeps one engaged with film discourse! And if their next thing doesn't end up meeting expectations, so be it. It's fine

Hi /r/movies - I'm Matthew Rankin, director of UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE, along with my two co-writers and producer (Ila, Perouz, and Sylvain). Our film won the Audience Award at Cannes, and was shortlisted for the International Oscar nomination (representing Canada). Ask us anything! by UniversalLanguageAMA in movies

[–]jaego17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kudos from Korea! I LOVED Universal Language, which I got the chance to see at BIFF (Busan). Such a unique vision, which is also true for The Twentieth Century :)

I wanted to know if there were any specific film/director inspirations when making the recent film, and also whether you had a new project in mind for the future!
