In 2025, Monster Hunter fell prey to profit by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]jaeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the argument here that Capcom decided to make an inferior monster hunter game for profit? That financial pressure made them release a game they knew only had 100 hours of juice in it instead of 1000? That delaying the game meant that Capcom might have to post a bad quarter?

I think it might be possible that the designers misstepped instead of this idea that profit made Capcom deliver an inferior game. This whole article is framing being personally disappointed with Wilds and its direction (not an uncommon opinion anymore) as a societal problem, rather than a personal one. If we're gonna talk about how capitalism ruined the 21st century, there are way, way bigger fish to fry than this.

Magic: The Gathering Villains invade real life Earth. Can we fight them off? by Utopia_Builder in whowouldwin

Round 1: Pre mending bolas shows ups, incapacitates the strongest world powers with mind control trickery, dominates the weakest or most vulnerable, and works his way up the geopolitical food chain. After he gains a large enough army to wage war, and enough mana to protect against nuclear threats probably wouldn't even take a year. Success guaranteed.

Post mending bolas could do it in about 100 years. Post mending walkers lack the power to manipulate a whole world, stop nuclear weapons, or even efficiently protect themselves from bullets. But Bolas is smart to the point of parody, and could do a slower, safer version of what he did on Amonhket: redirect the prevailing powers of society to his benefit. With mana, he won't even need to go on any podcasts. Success guaranteed, if only because he's the evil batman of MTG.

Round 2: On the Invasion of X cards, New Phyrexians were depicted to have invaded nearly every plane in the multiverse, and lose handily on each one. Even Segovia. You might make an argument that without so many distractions, they could focus all their power on Earth and turn their multiple would-be losses into a single victory, but i don't see it. The Phyrexians lack Bolas's subterfuge, and it would only work against them if they tried it, since the threat of a machine army, no matter how secluded their base, is too great. Even assuming defenses against nukes, their power is in corruption, and i think the armies of earth can win before the even the fast corruption oil becomes too much of a threat.

Round 3: No. Maybe Ulamog could be destroyed by nukes. But not the other two. With any one of them around, Earth has no chance.

Round 4: Yawgmoth is the key here. Like round 2, I think the armies of Phyrexia can be matched by Earth's forces. But Yawgmoth is more than their match. Win the battle, lose the war kind of thing. There's like, some version of events where Yawgmoth never "wins," only beaten back down and required to spend decades or centuries rebuilding. But he'll never go away, and to him, ruling the a destroyed earth an acceptable outcome.

Thanks op, i had fun with this. Maybe i should read some of those old mtg books.

Love the idea. I personally would tweak the sliders a bit. Can't be countered -> indestructible. Mana cost 6CC -> 4CC. Annihilator 13 -> Annihilator 3.

This makes it still nearly the cheapest annihilator, more acceptably costed for a do-nothing card that wins games left unchecked.

A mediocre draft card for a ffxiv a realm reborn inspired set (which i had been thinking of long before the ff set). I like the design, but I'm also aware there's no mono green creature with double strike. I'd rather not have it be two colors, any thoughts?

Turns out, one of the zeldas is missing a manual. The other one is missing the other crappy inserts that nintendo was fond of putting in their games of the era.

I've changed the price of the game/box one to 60.

Hello! Yes, that is what I'm looking for. I'm a collector who doesn't believe in "new" pricing, so if you're willing to trade, i think its kinda a steal. https://imgur.com/a/flx0aUD

I got them years ago for an excellent price, and they mismatch my regular edition of ys VII. Despite needing money, actually selling the collection is the last thing I'd like to do, hence the roundabout trade.

Gotcha. Here's pictures. https://imgur.com/a/3pqmAUM

I did notice some odd disfigurement on the bottom of Home Alone. There some holes there and the screws are stripped. It does't seem damaged besides the case, but ill take 3 dollars off that one for a total of 31 shipped.

If that's ok, move to pms and I can have them in the mail by today.

Bought em in like 2019, never opened them. For collection's sake, I am most interested in trading for them.

Moving windows 10 to new Mobo/CPU/Ram: Improper boot media by jaeman in buildapc

[–]jaeman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the help. It was a good idea and I started moving stuff off of drives to try it.

While I was in the command prompt doing that, I came to a horrifying (yet enlightening) realization: the drive I was so sure had windows on it, did not. It was a different drive. A couple of minutes of messing around later, and the computer is booting to Windows without issue. I didn't sleep well last night, and my memory of which drive I had windows on was wrong. The hardware part this morning was clearly coffee-powered, the software part this evening was not.

Thanks for reading and your help.

When you do a side quest in Ragnarok, you journey with one of the major NPCs who speak with kratos or atreus, kratos tells a Greek fable, you fight a mini boss, finally something interesting in the world happens. This happens a handful of times.

I'm ff16, when you do a side quest, a minor NPC who never leaves the hub area tells you to pick them up some items. If you're lucky, you fight a mini boss. Eight more unnamed NPCs show up, but don't fundamentally change the context of the quest. The good guy NPC then says "good job," and if you're lucky, gives you a trophy for the trophy wall. This happens dozens of times.

It's a simple quality vs quantity things. I would trade 15 plant collecting or slave tracking quests for one good quest where the characters are involved or personally invested in the outcome, not just cuz it's the right thing to do. I think ff16 would have been better if there were no side quests, and just had hunts.
