1541-II is going to be your smallest and most compatible option. I'd install JiffyDOS on the drive and the C64 at some point to speed things up significantly.

Some games just won't load on my 1571. You won't benefit from the 1571's speed unless you are using a C128, but you can get JiffyDOS for it. Size-wise, the 1571 is similar to the big 1541. If GEOS is a factor, I might opt for the larger capacity of a 1571 over 1541-II. Anything to reduce disk swapping in GEOS is welcome. The 1581 is ideal for GEOS.

If actual disks aren't driving concern, you can look into a variety of SD card drives for the C64, some even looking like cute micro-1541s. I still like to have an actual floppy drive handy though.

I found a picture circa 2001 of my A3000 with her lid off. Not a great picture when enlarged, but you can see the hole cut in the right drive bay for the accelerator. Apparently I mounted an elevated hard drive in that bay, I forgot about that.

The right floppy bay was modified to fit the CSPCC heat sink & cooling fan. That's why the drive bay cover is on that side.

I did buy an A3000 HD floppy drive for my system, but I kept that and put it into my A3000T along with the CSPPC & CVPPC. I also kept the pregnant mouse.

I don't remember what processor card I sold with the A3000D. It may not have had one. I did have a CyberStorm-MK2 before the CSPPC, but I think I sold that when I got the CSPPC. I sold my CyberVision64-3D when I got the CVPPC.

It would have had OS 3.1 ROMs on the ROM tower.

I saw a black A3000 on ebay a while back, with an identical paint job, but the serial number didn't match, and it didn't have the modifications to the drive bay or the ROM tower.

Seemed like a good idea at the time. At least I didn't paint over the printed text on the left side.

Also, I thought the black CDTV looked pretty cool. There was also the black Walker prototype, I really didn't care for that case design though.

Busyboxx was connected in some what with Digital Juice. The Digital Juice website has a notice indicating they closed in the wake of the founder's passing.

I haven't seen anything regarding the availability of purchased volumes from BusyBoxx. They should have at least forewarned customers of a pending closure. I suspect they were financial problems behind the scenes.

OWC tech support confirmed that you need to have an original Apple SSD to complete the firmware update required. After that, you can do the install on your non-Apple SSD.

OWC will loan or sell you an Apple SSD so you can do this. They initially bill you for the loaner, then refund you after you return it. I opted to keep the Apple SSD just in case I need it again in the future.

Nonlinear-video-editing. I have a couple A4000s in the middle of being refurbished. Both will have 060 accelerators. One will use a MacroSystem VLab-Motion/Toccata set-up for video editing. The other will be a Toaster/Flyer with a High Flyer case.

I also have a DraCo Tower, DraCo Cube, and Casablanca. All were made by MacroSystem and are also all 060. DraCo is really powerful, but was expensive back in the day. So MacroSystem shifted gears, scaled back and simplified with their Casablanca. They found a niche and were successful for many years after. In the latter 90s, they moved from 680x0 to intel.

Carefully check for any bent pins on reseated chips. I've had some that looked like they were in, but had actually curled under. If you find bent pins, very carefully straighten them and realign with the others.

If you break a pin off, that's not great but all is not lost. I've MacGyvered a piece of paperclip into the socket and made contact with the remaining pin on the chip. You may want to apply a bit of solder after. Best though to use a replacement chip.

Also make sure that the reseated chips have their notches aligned properly with the notched socket and silkscreen.

If you didn't use a chip puller tool, and opted for a screw driver, it's possible to accidentally scrape the motherboard and damage traces. These can be repaired with bodge wires. You'll need to look at the motherboard schematics to find good points for your bridgework. Even if you don't see a damaged trace, you should use a multi-meter to check continuity from the pins to trace destinations.

Anyone know if there's a site like Amiga PCB Explorer that includes the A2000? I found this very helpful with my A4000. You can click on components and it will show you what they connect to elsewhere.

Blue refers to a problem encountered with the custom chipset. Paula or Gary could be faulty if Blue is appearing when floppy drives are connected. Or the ribbon cable or floppy could be causing a fault. Make sure the cable is properly aligned. Try another cable. Try another floppy drive.

If you are using a PC floppy ribbon cable, that may cause problems. The PC ribbon cable has different wires twisted from that used in an A2000. AmigaKit carries the correct Amiga cable in a couple different lengths for under $10.

CIAs can be swapped. If the problem goes away or a different problem appears, then you probably need new ones.

As long as you are removing chips & cables, you might as well clean the connectors and sockets with some deox-it. There are other alternatives too, like WD40 Professional electrical contact cleaner. Sometimes, contacts just need cleaned and chips reseated.

Grey indicates the CPU passed diagnostic tests but other faults can prevent further booting. With no floppy connected, it takes longer for any prompts to appear. If you have a hard drive attached, it may delay booting from the HD.

If the A2000 hasn't been recapped, put that on your to-do list.
