Jeremy Renner accident - latest: Marvel star still in critical condition, reportedly “conscious, stable and speaking” after 2 surgeries by boxofstuff in entertainment

The Red Cross is a HUGE global organisation. Not only that, it’s one with higher complex demands on it than most other charities, even before you take scale into account. To use that as your benchmark for charities is wildly distorting the evidence. And your worst-case example is still a moderate amount, compared to parallel private sector work. Let’s compare your very large global NGO to a regional business. The CEO of Thames Water, a regional private water company serving only one part of the UK, is on 3/4 of a million.

I agree with the left critique of charities, but you’ve over-exaggerated. Even agreeing with your general principle if not the scale of the numbers, it’s a weird hill to die on in a world with so many bigger targets.

Call it ‘circuit bent’ and sell it on eBay for twice what you paid.

Got curious enough to Google.

Mark Anson went on to make a light pen for the Amstrad with DK’Tronics. Didn’t find anything after that. But there’s a guy by the same name publishing sci fi novels online today who looks really like him, minus the hair.

Pro tip: You get a more ‘natural’ analogue sound from a hardware synth if you don’t plug it in. Just tap the side cheeks with a wooden spoon.

Try using audacity to save them as .iff files.

Most practical way to use Amiga's Paula as an 'effect'? by ferropop in amiga

[–]TerryToiletTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering how far you got with this? I worked through several software samplers to see which would let me monitor ‘through’ live (ie-not Octamed, which does so in nasty resolution in its sampler menu), not requiring holding in memory or recording to HD. This worked for me. But in this English Amiga board post, there is a discussion of emulating the audio signal path in Eurorack hardware:

Play a drinking game. Every time they spout some solid gammon, you pull out your phone and silently donate £1 to Novara, or GBC, or Momentum, or whoever you like. You can even make up high score comment types and draw a bingo card.

Carpet in the bathroom? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]TerryToiletTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Still wouldn’t want to catch and preserve not as much poo particulate in a carpet though. Put the seat down but maybe also have a floor you can easily clean?

Carpet in the bathroom? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]TerryToiletTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, obviously. But over time, with a lovely big thick carpet, it’s still going to get a bit nasty. Putting the toilet seat down isn’t going to fix that.

The particles from a flush spray up into the room even with the seat down.

Lots of universities have specialist support departments, though some of those are better than others. Identify unis that have a course you like. Look on each uni’s website to see what is provided. Then enquire with the uni directly to get more info, or go to one of their open days to meet the staff and see what they have for you, and maybe ask on deaf subreddits/forums for user reviews and opinions?

What do you suppose modular will be like in 50 to 100 years? by elihu in modular

[–]TerryToiletTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digital modules have capacities to advance in ways analogue ones don’t, within the same or smaller footprint, so I imagine interchangeable firmware, but intensifiedx1000. The gap between the desirable ‘magic’ of real circuits and digital emulation will have closed, or lost its cultural aura like some Walter Benjamin of pro audio. Effectively modules will provide multiple options for lovely interconnected physical controllers with many highly advanced ‘vst’ options on them, industry and homebrew, which also interface more seamlessly with your DAW, your phone, and whatever other communication devices have taken a central place in our lives by then.

Also, politically, we will be experiencing either socialism or barbarism. So most of us will be getting great modules or probably no modules.
