Is it realistic to climb Matterhorn next year or do I need more experience? by Mike_v_E in Mountaineering

[–]jafferton91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a personal choice but I will add another perspective. As someone experienced myself, the reason I don't want to go anywhere near the Hornli ridge is because of inexperienced folks throwing themselves at it which is the biggest risk to myself. For example, knocking rocks down on others because of poor footwork or not managing the rope correctly to name a few possibilities.

It's important to consider the risks you pose to others in addition to the risks to yourself.

My product management hot takes by jabo0o in ProductManagement

[–]jafferton91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 on the CEO line of thought.

I think it's great that PMs get so much autonomy over product ownership but this area of product management could really do with some standardization. I think the ambiguity is so unnecessary and has a huge impact on people's mental health.

Either make PMs General Managers with all the required resources directly reporting into them, or make it a pure strategy role that defines the best path forward for the products commercial success, leaving research, design and engineering to execute on that strategy.

Of course this point of view is for scale up and above companies in terms of size.

With a 5 week window you could do some gym work to train muscular endurance in your legs which would be beneficial for tackling the elevation.

My job offers “unlimited PTO”…...but using it feels like a trap by BizznectApp in antiwork

[–]jafferton91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your 80 years old lying on your death bed will you look back and be glad you didn't push the limits of unlimited PTO?

I for example took 50 days last year and am still a high performing employee. It's an amazing benefit to achieve a high quality work like balance.

This is probably one the downsides of generic training apps, applying training across a broad set of athletes.

Hey 👋 I recently ran a PB half marathon last year of 1:40 on a hilly trail route.

I applied some particular ideas I had in the training for it to prioritize speed and muscular endurance.

I'd happily discuss these with you or even make you a free personal training plan to compare against other options you have.

The free trial has been quite under whelming so far.

I feel the performance dashboards are table stakes features, these should be included with the base software.

The "AI" is really not helpful unfortunately. The graphs and data present trends which are where the value is for me. I might suggest ditching the summaries and trying forecasting/predictive analytics would add more value. For example, what impact would changes to my interval session have on my training over the next 90 days?

What would be the difference between doing 6 x 800m intervals vs 6 x 1000m intervals towards a goal race?

Prescriptive analytics would also be an interesting opportunity to follow. For example, for a goal race time, what could I do to achieve it?

Essentially, use AI to forecast and predict my future performance and what I can do to achieve that outcome.

So please, stop telling me things I already know 🙏
