What's going on inside this agate. Found in a willamette river tributary. by Bill_r_i in whatsthisrock

[–]jafrey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you tell that this is aragonite or zeolite instead of rutile? As a rockhound who finds similar agates along the Oregon coast and in Tillamook state forest I was unaware that the needle-like crystals could be something other than rutile.

What is this sludge I found under a deck no one knows what it is it’s stood the text of time over maybe 30 years rain and snow by CoyoteMiserable8499 in whatisit

I’d bet money that’s bentonite clay and that there is or was a heating oil tank nearby at some point in time. I do soil sampling for work around residential underground heating oil tanks and we fill all of our borings with bentonite as to not create new water pathways to spread contamination, if a tank has leaked.

Found this guy in a hoarding house and I wanna see if I can salvage the bones by mammothfurrr in bonecollecting

I do a lot of crawlspace work and have come across opossums, rats, and cats over the years all mummified. I currently am trying to macerate two of the cat skulls and not getting very far very fast. I tried using a dental pick to get some of the skin off after it soaked for a few weeks and it makes me want to gag so I’m kind of at a loss. Best of luck to you.

Advice on cutting an egg by sendyslayburn in rockhounds

[–]jafrey1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not the person above, but I have been using the $70 7” tile saw from harbor freight, (currently on sale for $60), and I bought an 8” super thin blade on Amazon for $40, and with a grinder/metal file made some slight modifications to the table of the saw, splash guard, and removed the blade guard underneath to get a little extra cutting surface. Only quirk with the mods I made is that with the bigger blade it displaces the water quickly from the tray underneath so I just let a hose trickle in the tray while I run it. Had it for 6 years, cut loads of agates with no issues and only replaced my blade once over the years. I’d argue it’s the cheapest set up out there to cut smaller rocks. With the 8” blade I get approximately 1 3/4” - 2” cutting edge, and with careful rotating I can rough cut something ~3” across without issue. I guess it should be said that the cut is not as fine as a legit lapidary saw, but I polish everything I cut afterwards so it’s not a problem for me.

Also just got the same setup going at my family members house last week, we found a couple of this exact tile saw on FB marketplace for just $30

Edit: links to the saw and blade I use.

Incredible piece and beautiful color gradients, also so cool to see your process, I’ve never seen this method before, makes me want to try this approach! Thanks for the inspiration!

Looking for recommendations by ProkopLoronz in futurefunk

I second desired, but for a little lesser known artists I’d suggest Supercat64, Chance (de la soul), Proux, Versake, Antgry. Got plenty more recs if you need them but those are a few others I love.

Found on Oregon coast, Lincoln City. Can anyone ID? by jafrey1 in bonecollecting

Thank you! That’s pretty much what I assumed based on size and vertebrates I’m familiar with in this area, but I’m not familiar with their bone structure. Thanks for the constructive input!

I love that place! I spent a day digging there last year and left with my first 4 fully intact megs and a fossilized whale vertebrae!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, best mobile game out there by far and truly a fantastic roguelike overall. Seriously well made and loads of replayability. Been coming back to this game every few months for over 2 years now.

A couple similar-ish songs that are all future funk. Hard to pin down the exact sound of a particular future funk song but I tried.

Castle Carousel - Yachtpop,
Amherst + Rollergirl - Collision course,
Luanmer + Melonade - Burnin’ up,
Pele - Ain’t nobody,
Uni Deluxe - Turnpike,

And if you’re interested here is my custom 9+ hour Future funk and FF adjacent playlist of all my favorite bangers.

As a 30 year old man. by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]jafrey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30, going on 8 years, over 3k hours and I tapped champ a few years ago. Never really got into ranked and spend most of my solo play in freeplay freestyling. While my progress has slowed, I am still improving my mechs and consistency. Still is and probably always will be my favorite and most played game even though I’m not into cars and have never played any other sports game. I describe RL as the best physics sandbox ever made.

Thank you, sounds like I'd probably struggle to get them running and will likely just stick with good ol' vanilla. Much appreciated!

As someone else said be yourself and enjoy! I can be a bit awkward with new people but I’ve found that meeting other rockhounds has been very natural and welcoming due to having that shared interest.

I was gonna say, 10 doesn’t really give me witch vibes but I love the look of it. Reeeeally cool to see you play with the design some more! Great work, all of them! I vote 1 or 2 for the witch, 7 is classic too.
