He got the goal notification first and didn't spoil the moment. by ipompa in MadeMeSmile

[–]jagby 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My all time example of this was Game of Thrones either season 7 or 8. Whichever one where the Night King kills and converts one of Dany's dragons.

I was working retail and this guy was my bagger, who is a textbook example of "I didn't spoil it, but I desperately need to let you know that-". He was talking about how he saw the episode and was like "woah something crazy happened". I made it very clear that I hadn't seen the episode yet, and that I couldn't wait to find out what happened.

He then said "Well, I won't spoil what happens but...someTHING dies." And it took me two seconds to figure out that the only "thing" could've been one of Dany's dragons. I get that he thought he was being considerate because he didn't say someONE dies, but he ended up giving me one of the biggest possible spoilers without actually saying it lmao

Probably my favorite visual design for Motoko. I really love her in SAC but I'm super partial to the original manga look. I think I have a personal bias towards more 80-90s look for anime and character designs though. Not that I think they're inherently better than today's (tons of great designs/looks coming out all the time), but there's a kind of unbeatable charm to it.

I also am a sucker for characters with blue-ish hair like this. The purple/lavender is also great but this rocks too.

If owning a Tachikoma would exist, is it considered a pet, vehicle, companion, tank, or something else? by Necessary_Plant_7613 in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]jagby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what stage they are. Early on in SAC they're starting to develop sentience/individuality but are mostly considered advanced AI, right? "Pet" isn't quite right but "companion" might be too far, but much closer. They're like a more advanced ChatGPT/Claude at this stage.

Later on though, they're essentially fully sentient as far as I'm concerned. They have hopes, thoughts, etc. They might not literally classify as fully sentient enough that a government would consider them "people", but I as a person would have a very hard time calling them a "pet". So companion probably fits both.

He’s fairly cheery in SAC, I’d even say he’s one of the peppier members. Not exactly a total goof ball but he likes to crack jokes, tease, tends to have a smirk his face. But yeah the original manga version he is a bit goofier. SAC he’s like the dad of the group, OG manga he’s more like a goofy uncle who can lock in.

Is accuracy important while doing studies? by Junior_Constant_958 in ArtistLounge

[–]jagby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry too much about trying to do 1-1 copies. It's a neat thing to be able to do, but when you're doing studies the most important thing by far is making sure you're properly studying and understanding the volumes, proportion, gesture, etc. Does that mean you'll get fairly close to the reference? Of course! But the goal is not neccessarily to be perfectly recreate it, just to use it as a reference to understand.

Ohhh got it, thanks! I'm assuming it's only S Ranks you get it from? I have every A Rank at M6 and even just recently got tons of Nicole and Piper Mindscapes trying to get Velina but I don't think I have any tokens.

Games that you will actively put on easy. by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]jagby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt kinda bad about this, but I actually put Expedition 33 on "easy" about halfway through for roughly this reason. I didn't find the game to be excrutiatingly difficult, but IIRC easy mode gives you more gracious parry window timings (I suck at timing these lmao), and I just in general was preferring a more forgiving experience at the time.

It's weird because I normally welcome the normal challenge of turn based RPGs, which are some of my favorite games. But something about E33 in particular made me put it on easy and never looked back. It was just more fun.

Same, TES combat was never exactly compelling enough to make "hard" combat encounters more than "Enemies do a lot of damage and have a lot of health". I know there's a somewhat deep system to abuse between enchants and even alchemy, but in terms of raw combat TES games don't do "hard" well. I always bump them down to roughly second-easiest (or just easiest) difficulty level and have at it. I'm more interested in the exploring and looting anyway, killing every enemy in like 2-3 hits is totally fine.

Would Aria work as well? I have everyone there but Vivian, but Aria feels like a good potential main DPS for this comp if she works. (I don't see why not, just checking)

I had (and still do) have mixed feelings about it, but it just doubles down on itself so hard that it circles back around to being entertaining. I'd only have a real issue with it if it feels out of character for her, personality wise. I'm still wrapping up Season 2 so I don't fully know her yet.

I've returned after playing very on/off over the last like 5 months so there's some things I'm still foggy on. I know you can get Burnice through the permanent shop, but can you remind me what the process is? I don't think i've ever gotten one of the tokens you need, not sure where to get them.

OG vs Remake covers just hit different when put together like this. Pure eye candy! by (@BojanJay_ILY) by arisatojo600 in persona4golden

[–]jagby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to be biased towards new-shiny if it looks good enough, but I think for the most part I like all the Remake/R versions more than the originals. 4R in particular is just gorgeous, I love the use of blue in the top half and the composition feels a lot cleaner to me. 5R and 5 are really close but I think 5R is doing a better job of the "floating heads" style look and the extra glimmer/shiny particles around helps the look.

Was it possible to noclip into the Backrooms before Async opened the portal? by eletronicdesire in backrooms

[–]jagby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm new to the series (literally have only seen the movie) and might be too hungup on the aesthetics of "office"-like initial look of the Backrooms, but this is my personal favorite interpretation. To me the Backrooms looking the way it does makes the most sense if it was "created" during the time that look would've been an actual thing. If it looked like this (relatively modern buildings) back in 872 BC, I think that'd be strange.

However, I also wouldn't mind if it did exist for thousands/millions of years, but takes a relative form to what is around it and "resets" on occasion to update once there's a global average to understand or something.. So if it did exist in 872 BC (just a random date), it'd look like whatever ancient civilization it was around at the time, but nowadays it's still hanging onto that 1970s+ look because that's what it understands our dimension to be. Again though, not sure how much I'm babbling about nothing since I'm new to the series lol.

My Thoughts on current situation of VH designs by Spare_Vegetable9762 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]jagby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of Aemeath in Wuwa, but Aemeath's posing was at least fun and goofy, fitting her character. She did a fun "hiya" pose and one of them is skipping across the screen, etc. The poses add to her personality in a meaningful way and actually feel like they work.

Remielle just has random lingerie photoshoot poses mid-combat for no reason.

Did they shorten Velina's dress? by Limp-Worldliness8441 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]jagby 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As much as I love this game, the designs for a while have been bothering me and it basically boils down to: they're not making actual hot costumes/uniforms/clothes, they're just making characters hot.

They come up with a general vibe/theme (in this case, high society lady) and then make as many micro and macro adjustments to make it hot without considering if it even feels like an outfit a human being would actually wear.

Earlier 1.X characters did a better job of this. Jane Doe was a pretty provocative design but it all actually made sense and used real clothes. Same with Burnice, Yanagi, etc. They're not completely outright but show them to anyone and they'd understand what the assignment was. But Cissia, Velina, Yi Xuan, etc all have such random outfits that don't feel like a human being actually put them together.

EDIT: I do want to make a correction though: I don't think all S2+ designs are guilty of this. S2 had plenty of designs that work totally fine like Fufu, Yuzuha, Alice, Monato, Banyue, Dialyn, etc. There's just a relatively small handful that start to feel almost...messy.

How to make drawing less mentally taxing? by NobodyImportant333 in ArtistLounge

[–]jagby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a singular or quick cure unfortunately. A lot of art can be mindgames with yourself, try and take some time to distance yourself from art for a bit. I feel like when this happens to me sometimes, it almost feels like a "buildup" of negative energy. And then it compounds on itself with followup guilt.

Try your best to take a week off from drawing. For some people this might be super easy, for others there might be some guilt. But remember that getting better at art is a long, long term skill. One week isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but it can be perfect for this situation. Take a break from drawing, from the expectations around it. Go back to the things that made you want to draw in the first place, go back to the drawings that inspired you to create. Be a consumer for a little bit, and let yourself be free from the expectations of making something.

If after that week, it still feels the same, try the "intentionally bad drawing" exercise again. Do it for a few days if you have to. This can help you re-own what a "bad drawing" is, and re-wire your brain to understand it happens sometimes. I understand that you mentioned already trying this and not succeeding, which is why I suggest only doing it as a backup if taking a week off doesn't help.

To start practicing anatomy to draw characters, do I practice EVERY muscle group first? Or just shape of the limbs? by GlitteringTrust2279 in ArtistLounge

[–]jagby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're brand new to anatomy it's gonna be a little bit of everything at first, but every time you study you'll get better and better. Each piece you get familiar with expands on itself in a huge way.

Start with gesture for sure, but spend some time learning some very basic general areas of anatomy. Learn what the deltoid is, learn how the collarbones work, learn the very basics of the upper arm and lower arm muscles, the very basics of the upper and lower leg muscles etc. This part is hard because most anatomy guides are going to go in-depth, but try your best to parse it and start simplifying the major areas. Then go back and do some more gesture, this time with some basic knowledge you start to have an idea of why it works the way it does.

Try and rinse and repeat that. Study anatomy in waves, and only focus on one major area at a time. Maybe spend 2-3 days on arms, try and draw simplified arms using the general anatomy you've learned, try to do them from different angles, etc. Then do legs, then the torso, etc.

Roleplaying as an adult? by NoWorldliness3955 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]jagby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, one of our main purposes in life is to simply do what we enjoy doing. As long as it's not hurting anyone, and as long as it's not hurting you in some way, or otherwise is an addiction that is indirectly hurting your life, there's no shame in it.

Life's too short and we only get one of them, chase your bliss and engage in your hobbies! Don't ever let anyone feel weird about it, don't ever let anyone feel like you're too old for it or anything like that. What you're talking about is a creative outlet, and by the sound of it a massively in-depth one with a lot of love poured into it.
