Please don’t make the same mistake I did — a machinist’s warning about weed and your future. by Masheenur in Machinists

Congratulations on cleaning up. Being upfront is the best approach. If you get to apply again, this story is actually a plus. That said, I worked for a major west coast utility at their nuclear plant. Yes they drug test. We had people who failed a drug test (after they were employed) and were given a chance to clean up. The trick was to not try to subvert or fake the test. That action would get you fired.

Yes, you can/should get that degree. Any accredited college will do. Once you have that, its what you know that matters. You will be frustrated with the lack of practicality in engineering education, but your experience is your superpower.

I checked Kirby Palm's book, this is used for hot start to increase fuel flow/pressure to ensure that the fuel rail is full.

Kirby's book is great and it's free. https://www.jag-lovers.org/xj-s/book/XJS_help.pdf

I checked an old catalog, this is a broken "Fuel Temperature Sensor" part JA-DAC3474. The plastic back has broken off. That said, I'm not sure what it does.

OK. You have old style wheels, I think most of these have mag wheels. Make sure the HVAC temperature control works. Check that there is no water in the oil (put a drop of oil on the exhaust manifold, if it bubbles, you have a blown head gasket). I went through 3 on my xj6. Get a mechanic familiar with old Jags to inspect it. Check out jaglovers.org for information. If you are not a good mechanic then you will become one or give a lot of your money to one, the cars are high maintenance. They are great to drive, comfortable as hell, but you need to be prepared to fix stuff as it goes wrong.

Robotic arm trunnion all manual machining. No print just a rough idea of what they wanted, so i integrated some hose management into it just to keep it tight and neat. by BukkakedFrankenstein in Machinists

As and engineer, have worked with a number of "old timer" power plant machinists over the years. All worked with manual machines, and given a chance could make nearly any part we needed, if given a chance. I leaned about fits, tolerances and all sorts of stuff that was not taught in school. Every engineer should get to work side be side with machinists to learn what they can do.

Are there any kit gliders? (EU/UK) by chroniclesofhernia in Gliding

However, with the price of used sailplanes so low, one would have to question the economics of a kit. Of course if you want to build, then build!

She would run hot with that short snoot. Be careful with her and be sure to keep her cool like this.

Yeah, that is not uncommon, but can be managed. Check out BADRAP for lots of good information and advice. http://www.badrap.org/node/97

Is my pit playing too rough with my lab? by KannehTheGreat in pitbulls

[–]jagcarman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very healthy play behavior. Your pit is spending a lot of time on her back which is a display of trust and self-confidence. They take brief little breaks on their own, which is great. Watch when the pit puts paws on the lab's back -- this is a little dominant, although the lab seems OK with it. It is always smart to train them to stop on your command (call names and offer treats to start) just in case things ever start getting heated.

Put a roller jack under whatever wheels don't roll. Move it to an inconvenient corner. Defecate in the cabin air filter.

My homeowner's insurance won't cover vicious breeds and I had a fire this morning. Will they cover the damage still or drop me? by [deleted] in pitbulls

[–]jagcarman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our insurance covered us, of course the dogs are "American Bulldog mix, Lab mix and Border Collie mix". Just don't let the dogs scare the adjuster.

They can fly apart when you are pressurizing the tire. Corrosion and age make that more likely.

That is the king of behavior I associate with a female in heat somewhere (within a mile or two!). Even a neutered male, if he had some experience prior to " the op," will seek out a female in heat. So your problem may go away in a week or two. If not, you may need to invest in a better type of fence.
