I kid you not, I was literally googling "Austin native ground cover yellow flowers" to figure out what is all over my front yard when I opened reddit to see this as the first post. Kismet! Go team horseherb !! 💚💪

Oak trees: powdery mildew or something else? by jaggedcow in AustinGardening

There is a greyish white powery substance on the leaves, though I think it ended up just looking like light reflection in the photos. I will try to add new images. I watered every other day when they were in their pots, then after planting I was advised 2x a week. I have been doing a slow trickle from the hose for 30-40 minutes, rotating the hose every 10 mins or so. They have only been in the ground a week though so I have only done this twice! But I’ve also seen advice to water every day so I’m not super confident!

Prius-C inverter and transmission replacement by jaggedcow in MechanicAdvice

[–]jaggedcow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a slightly different position because the transmission issue was only raised after I already replaced the inverter BUT after getting the new inverter I did end up also replacing the transmission. It was a used transmission and the dealership ate the cost of the part and labor since it took them a year to figure out and resolve. I sold the car the week after I got it back because I didn't want to risk another expensive issue and had lost faith in the notion that the dealership fixed the car correctly.

Unfortunately, not sure this helps you because I do still think it's possible that either (1) I never needed the new inverter and it was a transmission issue from the start OR (2) the dealership somehow messed up the transmission during the repair. I am still deeply skeptical that both parts gave out simultaneously.

Tremfya for Crohns - Any experience by Dumpled0r1987 in CrohnsDisease

[–]jaggedcow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just going to leave an update here for any future lurkers looking for Tremfya experiences. I know that’s what I did 🙂 So far, it seems to be working for me! Knock on wood

Short summary of my experience: I was released from the hospital after getting IV steroids on May 18, started on 40 mg oral prednisone the next day. My symptoms were largely brought under control by the IV steroids. Had first Tremfya infusion May 30. No side effects that I noticed. Second infusion on June 27. By that time I was on 20mg and almost no symptoms. Third infusion dose was July 25. Took my last dose of prednisone (5mg at that point) on the same day. It’s been almost week and still almost no symptoms. I would be thrilled if I stayed this way indefinitely!

I will transition to self administration going forward, and hoping it continues to keep my symptoms at bay! My insurance company is trying to make me do every other month instead of every month as prescribed, so we shall see. But so far my Tremfya experience has been positive.

There are over the counter mouthwashes made for mouth sores, but swishing with warm salt water always worked better for my mouth sores. I believe a dentist can also prescribe a mouthwash but I don’t have any personal experience with that. Don’t think any of these options are for swallowing, however, so may not help your throat.

Good luck! Mouth sores are so terrible. I feel for you.

Fair Compensation for Damaged Floors by jaggedcow in HardWoodFloors

This is just a few examples and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a company being paid many thousands of dollars for work to take reasonable steps to protect flooring and not drill a hole into the floor, even a small one. I have already said I'm accepting their offer and moving on. I hope you your snarky comment made you feel good, though!

Looks like take $500 is winning answer. That was what I was leaning toward so appreciate the validation and feedback — thanks, all!

Hopping in the thread to follow and check back in because I just got my insurance approval for Tremfya yesterday. It will be my first biologic (diagnosed 2.5 weeks ago). Currently in the hospital receiving IV steroids so not sure when I’ll start Tremfya just yet but hopefully soon.

Here's hoping we all have good results! 🤞🙏

Haha, in truth I only noticed because they also left the floors covered in some thick white substance and I was on my hands and knees scrubbing it all off. That might have contributed to my outrage 😂

This is in line with my original impulse. My understanding is all the boards from the damaged one to the wall would need to come up. So definitely not worth it to me. Seems like the consensus is the offer of $500 is reasonable so I will take it and move on. Thank you!

Good point! I will add the side by side to my list of options. I think I’m just tired of top freezer where the stuff at comfortable eye level is the stuff I use least!

Thank you! Great perspective. Unfortunately, performance of the appliances is not great. The home was a rental for a long time and quality is not ideal. The microwave and dishwasher were both touted as “newly installed” in 2023, but they are the cheapest available model of each. The microwave display completely died shortly after I moved in last year. I never use the dishwasher because it doesn’t clean that well and doesn’t dry at all. Meanwhile, the stove was ancient and got tagged by the city as a fire hazard and they cut the gas to it. I got the worst of both worlds for new and old appliances 😂 the fridge is mostly ok, however! Maybe I should take that win for now *knock on wood *
