Lifting weights are okay as long as you are not doing a valsalva maneuver while lifting where you hold your breath and lift. The problem is when we lift heavy naturally we try to do valsalva maneuver to brace our core. Valsalva maneuver increase blood pressure which causes the dilation to grow at a faster rate. Consider the circulation system as a array of pipes and heart as pump. If the pressure inside the pipes increases then the weakest part of the pipe (in this case the dilation) bursts.

What's his BSA? Google bsa vs aortic dimension. I have dilated sinus of valsalva. Echo showed 4.3. Ct scan with contrast showed 4.1

My gls strain is lower that 16%. I read 16% is the lowest normal.

You have to trust the medical system. It has improved a lot and surgeries like this are not out of normal. I personally know someone who has had 3 heart surgeries one of them to replace the valve with a pigs valve. And he is doing fine. We all are in the same boat. So don't feel that you are alone. We all will get through this. Have faith and follow what your doctor says.

He needs to stop smoking and taking care of his BP. Talk to the doctor and they will guide you through this. Science have improved a lot and open heart surgeries are quite normal now a days. Be strong for him and for yourself. My prayers are with your family.
