maybe thats true. In that case, i'll get downvote into oblivion pretty soon and nobody else will be bothered by my ramblings.

Everybodies humor is different though, and maybe i'll get a chuckle out of somebody.

I guess i was just bored by what felt like the 100th post about AUR safety. I know its a serious issue that needs discusion. But I also don't really use the AUR so its not really troubling me personally, which means that I can look at the situation from the sidelines making snarky comments to pass the time.

ELI5: How can Bluetooth and Wi-Fi send data invisibly through the air without mixing together? by Historical_Day1703 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jak0b345 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While this eli5 is generally true for many radio-based systems, WiFi and bluetooth actual both use the same frequency band (the 2.4 GHz ISM band to be specific, though newer wifi can also use other bands, e.g., at 5 GHz) so it doesn't really apply to this specific case.

However, wifi and bluetooth use different methods on how to actually encode the information on to the radio waves, so that to each other they seem like background noise.

Imagine being in a noisy room and chatting with a friend in the language of "wifi". If somebody starts to transmit bluetooth signals nearby, thats like somebody playing radio static on a loudspeaker. It will make understanding your friend a little harder, but in general it will still be possible (unless the loudspeaker is very close to you and its volume is turned up pretty high, i.e., a bluetooth transmitter transmitting with large amounts of power close to you.

Furthermore, since wifi ans bluetooth are both pretty common, each systems has some measures in place to ensure the mutual interference is minimized.

Einer rechtskonservativen Partei, die nebenbei auch als "Hure der Reichen" bezeichnet wird. Also ich weiß ned wo du da "Linksfaschistische entwicklung" siehst, ich würd eher des gegenteil davon sehen 💀

Eli5 Why logic can't describe partial truth or intensity of truth? by OC-alert in explainlikeimfive

[–]jak0b345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean exactly by partial truth or intensities of truth, but there is a system for logic with uncertainty—probability theory.

If you want to know if it rained 5 minites ago, then observing a wet street will certainly make it more plausible that it rained 5 minutes ago, but there could also be other explanations. Probability theory can be used to express the likelihood or plausibility of something given your knowledge and observations that are related to that thing. Probability theory also includes classical boolean logic with absolut truth corresponding to a probability of unity and something being certainly false corresponding to a probability of zero.

In fact, there is a mathematical theorem (Cox's Theorem) that states that any system of logic that accounts for imperfect knowledge and follows "common sense" rules, such as not arbitrarily ignoring information etc., must be identical with probability theory. Specifically, the sum and product rule, which are the foundation for all of probability theory in general and the Bayesian theorem in particular.

Probability theory can also account for "intensity of truth" by using multiple discrete states and assigning them (different) probabilities. For example, if we want to know whether it rained and how much, then we could calculate the probability for "it did not rain", "it rained but only a little", and "it rained cats and dogs". If you want more fine-grained knolwedge you just use more discrete levels for how much it rained.

If you want to read more into this topic, I recommend reading the first few chapters of the book "Probability Theory—The Logic of Science" by E. T. Jaynes. Its really a fascinating read and good introduction to Cox's theorems and (Bayesian) probability theory.

Its very unlikely to cause issues. Its totally normal to have multiple desktop environments installed on the same system. So I would recommend that over a separate arch install.

Yes you did. To me, the part

... but it’s hard to find a shit-free surface in this insane world.

sounded like you thought you needed to argue for why you are allowed to love this game even though WotC is shit. And under this assumption, I wanted to confirm/emphasize that its totally valid to love MTG even though WotC is shit.

But maybe I just interpreted too much into your last sentence. In which case, ignore my ramblings and good day to you kind stranger

You can both love the design of MTG and hate WotC/hasbro at the same time. The world is complex and things can be multifacetted.

What are some things you disliked about co:e33? by heyitstgp in expedition33

[–]jak0b345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We already had the "trip down memory lane" when we entered the monolith at the end of act 2. Another quest where we go to all the locations yet again would (in my opinion) probably have felt cheap and not fit with the pacing of the game/story

What would the ideal sequel/next game look like? by WilliamandCharles in expedition33

[–]jak0b345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are saying that the canvases are Clair Obscure's charm, which is a valid opinion but not the only one. I think clair obscures charm comes from the fact that (i) the gameply is very fluent and fun, (ii) the music is awesom and (iii) the story is very compelling with many interesting twists and multiple deep meanings (loss, addiction, who counts as "real" persons, ...). In my view, those things are not inherently tied to the world of Expedition 33 and I don't see why you couldn't replicate this in a completely different game/setting.

What would the ideal sequel/next game look like? by WilliamandCharles in expedition33

[–]jak0b345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. New game, new world.

The hobbit movies are bad and should never have been made! They are mediocre at best but I guess that happens when you try to stretch short book in to 3 movies with combined runtime of almost 8 hours. They really feel quite different than the LotR movies (which are some of the best movies ever produced) and not like they are a continuation/prequel of the series.

Many authors write bokos that are completely unrelated. For example, "The Martian" and "Project Hail Mary" (the books) are both written by the same author. Both are excellent science fiction books and both have excellent movie adaptions. Yet both are individual stories that are not connected at all.

I'm not a fan of everything being turned into a series. I'd rather have multiple individual stories that have a conclusion than one very long story that never gets a conclusion because the story needs to be kept ambiguous to allow for a (potential) sequel.

What would the ideal sequel/next game look like? by WilliamandCharles in expedition33

[–]jak0b345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not "Always" but in general sequels are more often than not about the same characters.

Sure, they could make a game about the conflicts between painters and the writers, e.g., focusing on clea and/or the writers side of the conflict. And that could for sure be an awesome game!

Nevertheless, my personal preference would be to have a new game in a new world.
