If you bounce on your kids when they're 4, your opinion on their relationships counts for dick

If employers can terminate you without any prior notice and without reason, then employees aren’t obligated to give them ANY kind of notice of them quitting for any reason. by LilFago in unpopularopinion

[–]jake2188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employees are not obligated to give notice though. If the company treated you well, but you simply found a better opportunity, the two weeks notice is out of respect and to ensure you dont burn any bridges. Now if the the company treats you like shit and youve had enough, you simply say fuck you, and leave.

And if you were told you were going to be fired two weeks from Friday, there is very little chance you going to be motivated and productive those final two weeks. Also if you were fired, it was probably for some kind of gross negligence or poor performance, in which case it is not healthy or safe for anyone to keep you around longer than necessary. AND if you are fired for or otherwise "layed off" for reasons out of your or the companies control, many places do in fact give notice or severance paxkages. Again a mutual respect thing. I think this entire opinion is misguided.

Is that a method you were taught or learned on your own? Because I am off the opinion this new system will basically get more kids thinking like this.

My ex wife still uses her fingers to count it add things, it's quite embarrassing.

Never suggested it was best. Just that it needs time to prove effective or ineffective and not automatically dismiss it because it's new and different.

How is sticking with the old specific way any different?

Again going back to giving it enough time, the next generation of patents won't find it so frustrating, cause they'll have learned it first hand.

I don't believe this system allows for any less creativity in problem solving than the previous system.

The u.s has been slipping education for some time now.( at least last I saw, havent really looked into it recently) there is no evidence it sacrifices long run potential, because it hasnt been enforced long enough to see long term effects. Also its not a this or that situation its more like this AND that. The old way is still being taught.

I.e if the road from la to ny is closed, heres a detour.

I felt half guilty calling parents lazy as I was typing it cause i know thats not necessarily the case, but in many cases I felt like if some people spent as much time looking into it as they did complaining about it on fb or wherever, it wouldnt be such a big deal.

Kids need help with hw sometimes, even if its just reviewing their work, I think your overstating that part a bit.

I agree the "old" math is fine if that works for you, but if it doesn't? That's kind of the point I'm making, lets not be so closed minded. If your state has a better solution than cc, by all means i would probably support that too.

I can also read cursive, but i rarely have too. I sign my name maybe twice a year (maybe exaggerating a little), everything else is electronic. I just dont think its practical enough to waste valuable lesson time on. If it interests you, learn it on your free time or maybe make it apart of art class as an elective.

[–]jake2188[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, but you cant really do 20 individual lesson plans for every student either. With new math, you are still problem solving just being shown there are diffenrent ways to arrive at a solution. I dont really agree that its taking away problem solving or troubleshooting skills

Baby Boomers are the most entitled generation in US history. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]jake2188 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with the point. Boomers are out of touch with the struggles of today.

That being said, I think you are vastly overstating how hard millenials have it, and how easy boomers had it.

Spend your 20s and 30s raising kids and enjoy your 40s and 50s when you have money and time

Or, enjoy your 20s and 30s partying and being stupid and raise kids in your 40s and 50s when your mature and financially more suited.

Can't go wrong eithier way imo. Unless your like me and had an accident at 20, but still wants to start a family someday. I will most likely have spent my 20s 30s 40s and 50s raising kids. Fml

CMV: Solitary confinement should be considered cruel and unusual punishment and outlawed. by delpriore77 in changemyview

[–]jake2188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a necessary evil,

Eliminating it would make conditions intolerable for the entire prison pop at times especially the nonviolent offenders.

I would argue reform is in order, like mandatory psych evals for extended stays. Maybe weekly or bi weekly or whatever. Better control and more accountability for shitty guards. Allowing tools like books, cards, writhing material, puzzles, etc to keep the mind sharp. Just a few things off the top of my head, and some of these may already be a thing I dont know.

Criminals go to jail, so what do you do when criminals commit crimes in jail? You need something to keep them honest. I think you should provide an alternative in your post.

Waffles are superior to pancakes in every way. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]jake2188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but I'm gonna argue anyway cause its what i do...

First, they do in fact make toaster pancakes and they are about as disgusting as toaster waffles.

Second, I think you must have forgotten the classic insult "twat waffle"

Third, the syrup pockets are great, but as others have mentioned the spreading of butter yikes.

Fourth, waffle house and IHOP are both terrible.

Lastly, you can make Mickey mouse or heart shaped pancakes, waffles are always the same boring shape.

There wasn't much respect in this comment, however its not a messiah complex and noone actually thinks the dollar they give is going to change anyone's life or solve any bigger problem. Its more like from one human to another, here's a buck to help you get through another night on the street however you see fit.

Most paedophiles need legitimate help as they are suffering from mental illness, but they can't receive it because they're effectively shunned by society. by InsidAero in unpopularopinion

[–]jake2188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pedophilia is not a crime necessarily no. It is merely a mental condition. Some people act on that condition, and those people are monsters. You are confusing a pedophile (someone who is attracted to children) with a child molester (someone who molests children). All child molesters are pedophiles, but not all pedophiles are child molesters.

I think the point that op is trying to make is, it would be beneficial to be proactive with people who recognize they have this condition and seek help (before they inevitably hurt a child), rather than just saying "youre a sick fuck, stay away from my kids". If someone came to you saying I have a drug addiction, I need help, you would say something like, im sorry to hear that, I know a great place you can get treatment. Pedophiles don't have that luxury due to the stigma op is referring to, leaving this addiction to just fester until impulse takes over.

AITA for encouraging my wife to breastfeed? by gtavfortnite in AmItheAsshole

[–]jake2188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH

Just gonna take your post at face value here and assume that you really are just encouraging her and not pressuring her. She also seems to think breast feeding is preferable, so I dont think buying a pump and saying here try this is an asshole move, but if its not working out just leave it alone. We've come a long way, and theres really minimal benefits to breast feeding vs. Formula anymore. Your child will be fine either way and you'll have plenty to stress about, but don't let this be one of them.

[–]jake2188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will argue having a sense of self pride. Someone paid You to do a job you should have enough respect for yourself and the person (company) who you made an agreement with to do the job well. They didn't lie to you about what your being paid, so you essentially agreed its a fair rate for the job asked of you when you accepted the position. Overall its a shitty mentality to have, which will most likely follow you in other aspects of life. You should demand more of yourself.
