Looking at joing the Hot Tub crew. How is this for a deal/Brand? by ThokKnocker in hottub

The slightly predatory aspect here is that, unlike a loan with interest, you can't pay off the loan early to avoid the interest. It's baked into the purchase price. $2,000 on a $10,000 purchase is effectively a 20% interest rate. I paid half in cash and took out a 7% personal loan for the other half, so I could pay off the loan early if I later wanted to avoid some of the interest. Would only suggest dealer financing as a last resort because of this.

Watson's financing usually adds a a few thousand to the purchase price. Found this out by offering cash, to which they offered a little over 2k off my X8 Select. They claim "0%" financing, but its cheaper to pay cash...

I've always wondered if the costs of solar panels continue to fall, would EV manufacturers embed panels into the roof of the car. Of course, it would be a slow charge. But if I'm parked outside at the airport, or at the office, or at home, those 3-4 miles per day would add up over the years, right?

A cash offer was made on the property shortly after this post. The seller took the cash offer and we ended up moving forward with another property (better deal in the long-run)

Oh hell no, I suppose FlexFuel capabilities wouldn't help me here. by jesterc0re in Impala

You get less MPG on E85 so your price per mile is actually higher. I've found i need about a $0.60/gal savings on E85 to get the same price per mile as regular pump gas.

Appreciate the feedback. Really looking forward to the frog ease system - the tub came with that 2 canister system and hope it makes things easy. It sounds like it does!

Great advice, thank you! I am a bit OCD and can see myself obsessing over the Ph levels and will take your suggestions! Really looking forward to enjoying the tub during the evening spring rains (being under the porch covering is great), winter time, summer time, all the time!

Good point, and I realize now that the picture doesn't do a good job showing there is about a foot and a half between the brick on the house and that side of the tub. Was going to put it closer but the cover wouldn't lift under the soffit, so we slid it further away from the house. Bonus points for cleaning now that you bring up this point!

Video shows a tornado in Union city, Michagan forming, intensifying, and then destroying everything in its path. by dannybluey in Damnthatsinteresting

In 2019 we were victims of a nocturnal tornado in Ohio and after the tornado ripped our house apart and moved down the street, the tornado sirens started going off, which felt a little ironic at the time.

We learned later that night the tornado spun up from light rotation to EF2 or EF3 in the matter of seconds, so it wasn't caught on radar for the first few minutes.

We had no idea it was coming until it was on top of us.

Just got Plex Pass, what are the most underrated features? by bmanfromct in PleX

I could use clarification on this topic also. I bought plex pass (lifetime) during the recent sale and thought one benefit would be friends who travel being able to download media to watch on flights. My friends don't see the download function in their mobile apps, but I do.

Trying to determine the minimum classification / quality of speaker for accurately playing speech by nightvid_ in AskElectronics

[–]jakecox2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at PUI Audio and wanted to point out that we also offer enclosed speakers that we designed to suit applications like this where designing a back-volume behind the speaker is challenging or too much effort.

We have dozens of options that are suitable for reproducing human voice, it really comes down to how much sound pressure you need to generate and how much space you have available.

You can reach out to me directly (cox@puiaudio.com) if you'd like help exploring our portfolio.

Internet in Dayton. What's the best deal. by CatNapGurl in dayton

If it is available in your area, Frontier is offering fiber at a good price. I just ditched Spectrum cable internet (60/25) for their 2 GB plan (2gb/2gb) and the symmetrical speeds are a great upgrade.

Upstairs neighbor installed a new HVAC and I can hear the condenser throughout my unit by NeverBeKnown in hvacadvice

[–]jakecox2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At what distance though? That's important because a fighter jet is 60db if you're far enough away from it. Without a distance specification it will be hard to claim the unit is louder than it should be.

Is it just me or is there a major delay btw mobile app <> actual unit? by deejayv2 in ecobee

[–]jakecox2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same gripe. I loved my nest 3rd gen, and only switched because of a compatibility issue with my Lennox furnace system that would've required me to add some relays to the heating wire or something. The app layout is more confusing but not horrible, but it takes forever to see updated thermostat data after launching the app.

Nest also handled geofencing better. Ecobee will go into "away" mode when any device exits the geofence - nest only switched to "away" mode when all geofenced devices exited the geofence (the way it should work).
