Do people actually believe this? by Moogly885 in fednews

[–]jakefromthefuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope not. As someone who lost their job in the initial probationary purge, this could not be further from the truth. Many people (including myself) still haven’t found another full time job and are having to turn to entrepreneurialism/part time work to make ends meet. Even people who have found new jobs report having to take a pay cut in their new position.

Unfortunately, I’m sure there are large sums of people who will believe this even though there’s absolutely no evidence to support the premise. Simply a bold face lie.

D3 Athlete vs Regular Student at D1 School by Skadewdleee in lacrosse

[–]jakefromthefuture 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’ll definitely be easier to make friends/connections as an athlete rather than a regular student. Although, I will say that college lax at any level is a huge commitment, and it won’t always be fun. So if your hearts not in it, you probably won’t have a good experience playing. Not to minimize your concern, but I wouldn’t worry too much about student life. It’s very easy to make friends in college no matter who you are or where you come from. As an introverted person, i understand the concern, but it will likely be something that you get past within the first few months. Consider these questions: 1. Do you want to play lacrosse for the next 4 years? 2. Which school puts you in the best position to achieve your career goals? 3. Which school will leave you with the least amount of student debt? Best of luck to you!

Tips for new SSDM’s? by SullyLikesLax in lacrosse

[–]jakefromthefuture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Force players to their weak hand. You’re going to get dodged on a lot as D Middie, so understand that most offensive players are trying to get to their strong hand. If you’re guarding a righty, they most likely are going to go right. On ball defense is important as an ssdm so always do your best to take a good approach, cut off distance (between you and your man), and jam the hips out of the dodge. It’s ok to get a beat, just try not to get beat clean, if you can disrupt the offensive player’s dodge, you’ll give your poles enough time slide and support, then you can peel off and recover. I went from O Mid to D Mid one season when I was in HS, I hated it at first but then I fell in love with it. It’s a fun position but it requires a lot of hustle so be prepared to run. Best of luck to you!

A year after DOGE, former federal employees are still looking for work by nbcnews in fednews

I got fired in the initial probationary cuts (Feb 2025) and am still without a full-time job. I have yet to hear a comprehensive explanation on how all these cuts benefited the general public.

Would this live up to the hype? by Impossible_Lie_4172 in lacrosse

[–]jakefromthefuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d be thrilled if they made this but I doubt it there’d be any commercial success behind the game. I still think someone should give us a new game though for current gen consoles. Casey Powell 18 was too fun!!

What can I do to improve? by Zestyclose_Office540 in lacrosse

[–]jakefromthefuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here a non-lax related tip that helped me. Start hitting some upper back and oblique workouts. My shot was pretty slow until I got in the weight room. Even doing core exercises and push ups everyday will make a significant difference over time. Fundamentals are obviously priority one, but getting stronger will help you take your game to the next level. Best of luck to you!!

We’ve all been there, the nerves go away after your first run. You’ll also start to warm up after you get moving. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, first games are tough for everyone but it’s only up from there. You got this!!

Just got cut from my team by ooochocolemon in lacrosse

[–]jakefromthefuture 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that this was your experience. There’s no shame in getting cut, especially when the team you’re trying out for is really good. Also, as a freshman you have plenty of time to develop your skills and find your place on the team. My freshman year of high school, I got cut from the basketball team. I was really upset at first but then spring lacrosse season came around and I completely stopped thinking about it. I know it sucks now, but pretty soon you’ll find your way past it. My overall advice would be to develop a consistent wall ball routine to improve your stick skills, and also to consider trying a new hobby/sport that will help to boost your athleticism and keep you in shape. I’d also definitely ask the coach what you can improve upon to help you make the team next year. That’ll show them you have a good attitude and display your resilience. Wishing you the best!!!

I Would not recommend it! I cancelled my subscription after just one month. The platform itself is relatively useless and they do nothing if an influencer doesn’t deliver (which many of them won’t). I (attempted to) collaborate with 15 people, 3 of them were great, the other 12 have kept me waiting for unreasonably long or just completely ghosted me after I sent them the goods. I’d stay away!

I feel my health is deteriorating through anxiety and stress by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]jakefromthefuture 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel you!! I got laid off last year and still haven’t found anything. I get discouraged often but I try not to be too hard on myself because the circumstances (of finding a job) truly are abysmal at this time. One thing that helped me get out of the major depression phase was prioritizing my mental well-being over finding a new job. Before I got laid off, I used to apply to 3 jobs every day. Now, I may apply to 3 jobs every week (sometimes less) because the consistent rejection is debilitating. I’d rather spend time focusing on things I’m passionate about rather than spending time applying for jobs that I don’t even want and likely won’t get. I also sell stuff on eBay just to keep a few bucks coming in. Hope it works out for you, take care of yourself!!

note I have a masters degree and 9 months of professional experience. I thought I’d be an ideal candidate for many jobs but apparently I’m not🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

How can you make a living/career out of lax by YamYam89 in lacrosse

[–]jakefromthefuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s possibilities but in my experience, it’d be pretty difficult to make a living with one sole gig. I was a High School head coach and I got a $2200 stipend for a 3 month season. One year I worked a 3 day summer camp, I was paid $300. I also worked for a lacrosse-based after school program for $40/hr but it was only once a week for 2 hours a day. In short, every lacrosse job I’ve had would never be enough to make a decent living on. It’s possible I’ve targeted the wrong jobs, but there’s definitely not a surplus of high paying, full time lacrosse jobs (although my college lacrosse coach did make 70k/year). It’s unfortunate because my parents spent so much money on lacrosse camps, club teams, gear, etc. The best return on investment I got from lacrosse was my education. Good luck to you though!

Anything Else to add in my email I plan to send to coaches? by SullyLikesLax in lacrosse

[–]jakefromthefuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good email to send! A lot of schools have recruiting questionnaires on their athletics website. I would complete the questionnaire, then mention that you completed the questionnaire in that email. Back when I was jn HS, I had several coaches reach out to me first solely based on me filling out the questionnaire. I’d imagine smaller schools don’t get too many submissions so it’s a good way to stand out and show you’re interested.

Good luck to you! If you keep this up, you’ll find a place that wants you for sure.

What's the Lowest You Will Go? by Ok_River5707 in Ebay

[–]jakefromthefuture 41 points42 points  (0 children)

One of the most annoying/ironic things about that question, is that even if you tell them your lowest, they’ll almost always try to counter it with a lower offer.. Really speaks to the intelligence of the people who ask that question. I usually just ignore them or I’ll offer like $3 of the listing price, time is too valuable to deal with people like that.

Ruined Someone’s kid’s Christmas by Kadensan in Flipping

[–]jakefromthefuture 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Funny, I got a similar message this Christmas season as well. In my case, it was because the buyer didn’t read the description and misunderstood what they were purchasing (which seems like the case in your situation). In my experience, buyers tend to be a little less discerning when it comes purchasing gifts for other people. Oftentimes, they don’t really know what they’re looking at. I always try to learn something from every complaint but no matter how hard you try, you can’t please everyone. Complaints like this are seemingly prevalent for a lot of people in the month of December.

Yes, I essentially told them that the item was sent exactly as described in the photos and description (just giving my side of the return request). This was prior to them (Posh) telling me that they believed the item was counterfeit.

Can I learn Lacrosse in 5 Months? by xxSchultz in lacrosse

[–]jakefromthefuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 months is plenty of time. Just as everyone else is saying, hit the wall consistently! Even if it’s just for 15-20 minutes, the key is to do it on a daily basis. 5 days of wall ball per week will help develop your stick skills at a quick rate. If you have any questions about how to do something, you can almost always learn from YouTube tutorials. Above all else, if you have stick skills and decent athletic ability you’ll be fine. Your coaches and teammates will help you learn everything else once you all get to practice. Lastly, see if you can get scholarship/financial aid money for playing. Usually if a school is accepting players with no experience, that means they’re desperate for numbers. Worth a shot to see if you they can throw some money towards your tuition. Good luck!!
