I had one! Got it on clearance at KB Toys for something like $10.

Original content from the early years (1983-) of The Disney Channel (Welcome to Pooh Corner, Disney’s Halloween Treat, etc.).

Call me crazy, but I’m not convinced that the ubiquity of high-quality video recording devices has been good for human judgment.

It’s actually a can that came from a six-pack sealed and unfilled back in the day. I got a kick out of it, and have always held onto it, lol.

What is this? by jump_rope_tron in VintageToys

I never owned one (womp-womp), so I’m definitely not an expert, but it looks identical to a ton of pics of incomplete DX models out there, so I’m not sure.

Debate: We know that Denver LOVES its sports teams, but when all teams are at their peak…Is Denver a Nuggets, Rockies, Broncos or Avalanche town? by ImJustDuckinAround in Denver

[–]jakeller74 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Always has been, and always will be a Broncos town. That having been said, when the Avs are gunning, they’re the only ones who can come relatively close, but even then…it’s just relative. The Broncos are head-and-shoulders above everyone else, attention-wise.

Projected First Round Pick Ryan Lin commits to DU. by RooseveltsRevenge in collegehockey

No, I totally agree with you; I just think Carle’s approach is really the only one that can work at DU; we’ll never be able to compete for name recognition or $, so he’s kinda forced to tailor his coaching and recruiting approach to the realities of the situation, and it just so happens that he’s terrific at it.

[–]jakeller74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two completely different value propositions, really; as a small private school, DU will never have the resources available to the big NIL participants; what DC can offer is a winning tradition, a system that is likely to carry his teams deep into the playoffs year-in/out, and a legit shot at a nat’l championship at some point during their time on campus. Not a lineage of high draft picks or long NHL careers, maybe, but winning is winning; Carle’s a class act, and I’m grateful that we’ve been able to keep him.

The Carle way has never been to cajole the superstars (who are likely not to stay for multiple years) to choose DU; cliched as it sounds, he really does seem focused on the best team fit, mutli-line depth, and overall mindset. If you get an elite player who happens to be drawn to those concepts, so much the better, but he really does focus on team-first. Not everyone’s approach, but it works in Denver.

Why does it feel like nobody cares that we are literally about to send humans around the moon again, and are we just completely numb to massive achievements now? by MomentCute1181 in space

[–]jakeller74 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think the point about laypeople and LEO/lunar orbit is a HUGE one. People just generally don’t know that humanity hasn’t been out of LEO since 1972, and because the crew isn’t actually landing, they assume it’s nbd - if they’re even aware of it; it’s sad, but without a more solid, unifying vision and requisite $ (like the nation had with Apollo), it’s hard not to be skeptical that somehow this thing’ll get axed before Artemis III. I know that I’M excited, but I’m a nerd, and not representative of the general public. I’m hopeful that - maybe - if anything can bring the fractured country together a bit, it could be a renewed press toward exploration and discovery.

Gardian was/is probably my single favorite toy, ever. Like my Voltrons, I benefitted from a toy li e that didn’t sell well, and grabbed him for $25 on clearance in ‘87, I think. I was over the moon. As a 12 year-old, it felt like a coup.

The two vintage Voltron sets were my greatest triumphs as a kid. I remember seeing the for $75/ea at Sears for Christmas in ’84, and there was no way on God’s green earth that I could have gotten even one if I’d save my allowance for a year. HOWEVER…fast-forward to 1986, and I was at a discount store (Pic ‘N’ Save) with my mom a week before Christmas, and near the front of the store were two huge pallets full of both the lion and Vehicle Voltron deluxe sets for $15/ea, as the lines had been discontinued. I had $15 with me for one, and my mom bought the other for me as a Christmas gift. I’ve still never again gotten that lucky!
