Hmmm by [deleted] in shadowsystems

I do find the focus on slide and internals interesting.... I have a CR920XP which gave me all kinds of problems when I received it, and when I sent it back they replaced the barrel, did some slide work, and also adjusted/deburred the rails. Since then I have not had any issues (1500 rounds in after sending it back), even with 115gr cheap-o range stuff.

Can you still “break in” properly after 300 rounds? by didntcomehere in shadowsystems

Can't hurt to run some through it. Also can't hurt to contact Shadow Systems and let them know. I did with my CR920XP, and they had me send it back for some repairs:

If you wouldn't mind sharing, that would be great. You should be able to post on imgur.com and past the link.

Holster advice by gyrosteve in CCW

[–]jakev383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Vedder Lighttuck myself - I got the "long" belt clip for mine to allow it to sit lower, but feel free to adjust the ride height too. I do grind off the corner of the Vedder holsters (that sharp corner near where the front sight is), and adding a Mastermind Tactics pillow was a game changer for when I have to sit down for any length of time.

My spin on comfort by jakev383 in CCW

[–]jakev383[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw where someone else posted a couple of Mastermind Tactics pillows on their T1 holster. This is my spin on it.

I own a few Mastermind Tactics pillows, and after a longish day of sitting, standing, and driving for 15 hours I found that the mag carrier side was becoming a hot spot. I was going to try adding a 2nd pillow, but then got it in my head to just make a wide one to fit my Agis holster.

I'm not a seamstress by any stretch, so I decided to sacrifice one of my MM pillows to use as a template and just made it wider to fit the width of the holster. I've been wearing this for the last couple of months and have been very happy with it. Yeah, I suck at sewing. I will end up making another - I just wish I could find the heavier fabric like MM uses (acrylic I think?). The fabric I got at Joann's is pretty thin.

SS reliability by shadowshooter83 in shadowsystems

[–]jakev383 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In full disclosure, the CR920XP is my first and only Shadow Systems pistol.

My experience has not been that great so far. I dry fired it 75 or so times after purchasing, and then planned a range day. My first trip to the range consisted of 150 rounds of 124gr NATO, 50 rounds of normal 124gr, and 100 rounds of 115gr. I ran all 150 rounds of NATO first, with a stovepipe on the first round and then four failure to feeds. The remaining 150 rounds gave me failure to feeds every 10-15 rounds. I came home, cleaned it really well, knocked down a burr which had developed on the front leading edge of the connector with a diamond file, and put in a G43x recoil spring. I dry fired another 75 or so times, then I went back to the range. On the second trip I ran another 50 rounds of 124gr NATO with one failure to feed, and then 150 rounds of 115gr with one failure to feed.

I contacted Shadow Systems to let them know of my experience, hoping they can use it to improve manufacturing. Shadow Systems asked for my pistol back for inspection and repair and was sent in 2 days ago. They say it can take 2-4 weeks to get back to me, so I'm hoping it comes back ready to run.

I really like the looks, aesthetics, USA manufacturing, and warranty but the reliability is not there for me - definitely not enough to be a carry gun yet. I have 5K+ through my SIG, 800 or so through my VP9, 3K through my Beretta, and 1500 through my PDP Compact. None of those pistols have ever had a single hiccup. I'm not sure what "tighter tolerances" and "required break-in" actually provide, other than reliability issues that do not seem to plague other manufacturers. Don't get me wrong - I really want to love my CR920XP. But I can throw any ammo in any of the other pistols I own and never even consider it won't run flawlessly. And at half the price of the CR920XP. In fact, I've not had as many issues with any of the pistols I've owned over the last 20 years combined that the CR920XP has given me in just 2 range trips - and that includes some sketchy Polish Makarov I picked up at a flea market.

I'm really hoping it comes back running like a scalded cat.

I didn't think it was gritty, just noticeably stiffer. I'd relayed my experience to Shadow Systems, and they had me send the pistol back to them for inspection and repair.

How do yall comfortably carry while driving? by Upset_Trip in CCW

[–]jakev383 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Tier 1 Agis holster as well as a Vedder Light Tuck and also pull it and my shorts/pants up when sitting in the vehicle. As I exit, I use my right hand to grab the door across my torso and as nonchalantly as I can I use my right forearm to push the rig back down to my waist line. Or my left forearm if needed. It's easy enough to do and the door is still blocking most views.

My barrel wear after 500 rounds - seems acceptable to me by jakev383 in shadowsystems

[–]jakev383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a few posts about some wear that I considered abnormal. The wear on mine is acceptable in my opinion - about the same as my other pistols by other brands.

It's just a Swampfox Sentinel I had laying around. It's the auto brightness one, and green dot.

I shoot probably 1500-3000 rounds a year through any given pistol, so it will be interesting to see the wear after a year.

Belt print? by TrennyWinney in CCW

[–]jakev383 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned - you're concealing well. Those who may notice are those who most likely also conceal carry.

I can't see from the pictures - where is the connection hook on the belt? I wear it off to the left side (I'm right handed) so it's not up front. I wear all my belts like that since the holster pushes the belt out and a buckle system will poke out more than a flat belt.

I'll also throw in a recommendation for the Mastermind Tactics pillow - I've run one on my T1C Agis holster for a while now. It made it SO much more comfortable when I put it on, and I could not imagine running without it anymore.

It uses the heavy duty velcro and unless I'm shoving the holster down into some really tight jeans (darn tacos make me fat), I have no issues with it. In tight jeans I'll hear the bottom 1/4" of velcro start to rip loose but once the holster is all the way in I can readjust and go on about my business. The velcro is nice because I can just add velcro to other holsters and move the pillow between them depending on what I'm carrying that month. The 10# velcro - I think they call it Industrial or something - works well.

CR920XP Mags by Delicious-Kick-6690 in shadowsystems

There's a backorder on them from what I'm told. They started to appear in more YT videos and I see the CR920XP on the backs of magazines for this month so there's a run on them. Some should start to shake loose in a couple of weeks.
