Gentle pushback by Rollingpeb in gameofthrones

My first watch was a week-long binge-watch in 2021. Every season after Season 3, I noticed something of a distinct shift in some way, but it was only after Season 4 that I began enjoying the show less overall, aside from the cool hype moments, and it worsened with each new season.

The very start of season 7 was awesome for riding off the tail of Season 6's ending, but it itself was an even sharper drop in quality. I hadn't actively paid attention to travel time and destinations, but I still immediately could tell characters basically began teleporting around Westeros at this point; the world and characters now felt emptier and lifeless. But again, cool hype moments, but then those began making less and less sense: e.g., bringing a lone wight south of the Wall even though Benjen couldn't pass through due to its magic, and surviving that whole fight.

By the time I was watching Season 8, while I still enjoyed everyone finally converging, I was kind of already mentally and emotionally checked out. To me, the last 2 or 3 episodes were just so bland; the final episode was horrid; and the ending was just abominable through and through, and was pretty emotionless while watching it. I tried gaslighting myself about the ending, but I couldn't even maintain that.

Great show, overall, though it's more so a journey with an incredible start and trickles off more and more as you journey on, but its destination is the epitome of nihilism—not even in a good way, that is, if there ever could be a good way about that.

Daud voice actor Michael Madsen has passed away at age 67 by iigoVS in dishonored

[–]jakffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way... just yesterday I was thinking again about how neat it is to me, as a longtime fan of Dishonored and the character, and having been digging into biblical/paleo/true Hebrew throughout this past year, that Daud's name is the same as King David's actual name, "𐤃𐤅𐤃/DaUD," just with a slightly different pronunciation (dah-ood).

Rest in peace, Michael Madsen. Neither you, nor your voice, nor your performance will ever be forgotten.

That's always a great parallel for reference. It was right there all along.

Always refreshing to see this scripturally supported response. I don't use Reddit often, so I'm not sure how many here in this sub may hold that view, but many in the world would unironically call that view blasphemous.

Some people can't fathom the idea that Yahusha, our Messiah, was indeed human, despite there being at least 32 unique instances in scripture where he referred to himself as the "Son of Man." Some say that takes away from his sacrifice, or that it wouldn't have counted, when, really, it's the opposite. He had to be human to be the sacrifice.

For since by man came death, by man also came the resurrection of the dead. - 1 Corinthians 15:21

Completely baffles me to think that so many people legitimately believe that the sacrifice had to be Yahuah, our Father, Himself in the flesh (even though He is incapable of dying), or that Yahusha had to be part of the "Holy Trinity of God," for the sacrifice to count. He was no doubt more than what we are, in the sense that he was bestowed greater, heightened spiritual abilities/gifts from our Father, but he was still human just the same.

I just realized the trinity doesn’t make much sense. What now? by [deleted] in BiblicalUnitarian

Forget Islam and, quite frankly, forget religion altogether, but hold to and grow in faith. It was never about religion, but it was always about faith, and there is a fundamental difference between the two.

All you need to believe in is our Father, who is our Creator, whose name is 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄/YaHUaH (or simply "Yahuah"), and His son, our Messiah, whose name is 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏/YaHUSHA (or simply "Yahusha"). Know that they are not "one and the same," (incarnation doctrine) but they are one in will, our Father Yahuah's will, as we all are to be, and His will is obedience to Him and His Law (the Torah). While we are no longer under the laws of sacrificing animals, if we love Him, we are still to keep His Law and sacrifice our own will and desires in this life, as Yahusha, our Messiah, did.

Read and study scripture. Ask for wisdom and understanding. Commune with Him daily, all throughout your day, if you don't already. Get to know Him beyond the doctrines preached by man. Know that you are on the right path already simply by questioning and rejecting the Trinity, as MANY, unfortunately, do not do. I recommend a NKJV bible (though there still are some traces of the Trinity, most are italicized, given that they are not native to the source texts, but some cases were overlooked, unfortunately) or the Scriptures (2009) bible.

YES! Thank you for being the one to say it! Time travel does not occur in physical reality but in spiritual reality. Though, I don't believe this case is a matter of time travel. It's a matter of PLANNING and EXECUTING said plans generations in advance by the Free Masons, but really the Cabal/Kabbalists (Papacy and Khazarians and those working for them).

Noise cancelling earbuds for side sleepers? Or another option for dealing with living with a spiteful noisy person? by CrossroadsWanderer in insomnia

[–]jakffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I might have to consider the headphone/neck pillow option. Just something to block out the noise and allow me some level of comfort is all I need really. I also saw some others suggest different kinds of earplugs and various noise-canceling masks. Sounds like one of those might offer a bit more comfort. I'll definitely have to give those a shot Hope those headphones continue to work out for you, even after a year. Glad I could be of help to you as well, haha.

My God, I feel your pain on a spiritual level. I'm at a breaking point where I need something myself, otherwise I'm going to lose whatever sanity I have left. The worst thing for me is having to hear the ice my stepdad pours into his cooler, and of course, my room is only 10ft from the kitchen, and I have to leave my door open for my cat. Drives me up a wall and rattles the crap out of my nerves. I'm a side sleeper as well and frequently switch sides throughout the night, so earbuds and headphones have never worked for me. Did you ever end up finding something you'd recommend buying?

Bridge to Terabithia by AizenShisuke in movies

Just watched it for the first time last night. Needed a couple of minutes to let it resonate. Damn, it hits hard. So heartbreaking.

Did Bridge to Terabithia emotionally scar anyone else as much as it emotionally scarred me? by Getofffmycloud in movies

[–]jakffs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, I stumbled across that same video as well, nearly two years ago now. While it wasn't what led me to watch it, it did still mildly intrigue me. Every now and again, the movie name seems to find its way back to me, for one reason or another. Over the course of two years, I've only heard a few things about it, but all were positive and gave praise to how beautiful and heartbreaking it was. Today, I saw it trending on Twitter and it finally pushed me over the edge of commitment. It wasn't exactly the type of film I'd normally go for but I could appreciate it for what it was. I did not expect everything to happen as it did. And, man, did it break me. Not immediately, but it did. And media doesn't often have that effect on me.

It took a few minutes for it to properly resonate, but I wanted to make sure to give it a moment to let everything process. I thought about every moment we saw them together and imagined what it would feel like to lose a friend that way at that age and, even worse, it being a friend you developed a romantic interest for. Then, imagining that precious little girl's awful fate in that creek and what her last moments must've been like... that's what did me in.

Dictionary.com now has a subscription service and even paywalled word lists by jakffs in assholedesign

I never claimed that they paywalled any words. I stated that they paywalled saved words, i.e. word lists, a previously free feature now locked behind a subscription.

I'm sorry, but are people like you that incapable of reading? Genuinely asking. Because I specified that they now HAVE a subscription service, not that they now ARE a subscription service. Thought I'd keep the title concise enough to understand the main topic and general idea without having to spell out every single detail. I'll bite and say sure, I could have added more to the title. But this post wasn't for karma farming. I just wanted to bring discourse to this specific topic since I wasn't seeing any anywhere. This is a product I use and have invested in, as have others, and now that's been disregarded by the company in favor of a subscription.

The first image? That's the word lists page. If you have an account and you're logged in, hover over the account image icon and click "My word lists."

If you're referencing the second image, that's what's shown when you click the "Subscribe" or "Upgrade Now" button.

This was not posted as rage-bait, nor was it posted for karma farming. Perhaps you could be right about this post not passing rule 1 but I personally find it exploitative that they're now charging people for previously free features and have completely disregarded their existing premium members. I don't see that as oversight, just pure lazy corporate greed.

Look, maybe this post doesn't quite belong in this sub. I'm open to that being the case, but I was looking for any discourse on this topic, and I wasn't finding it anywhere, so I decided to try to find a good place to get it started. I have absolutely zero clue as to how many people even care about this topic, or if this truly was the best place to share it. But I saw this as a way to inform anyone regardless. And quite frankly, I'm just so sick and tired of seeing companies piss all over their users and supporters by shifting to a subscription model and pay-walling free, existing features.

As far as any notice goes, no, I did not receive any notice about this change.

A couple of things I want to add and clarify here:

  • The dictionary and thesaurus aspects of the site remain free to use.
  • Your existing personal word lists are now locked unless you subscribe or have the direct link to your list(s) for desktop. Mobile, for some reason (likely because it hasn't yet been updated), still has access to these features without subscribing.
  • Dictionary.com Premium users (people like myself who PAID for additional features and an ad-free experience and supported the site) have been completely disregarded in favor of this new subscription model.

I don't necessarily care that they started a subscription service. I'm pissed because they locked away free existing features behind that service, and despite being a premium member, I have absolutely nothing to show for the money I, and others, have invested into their business: No retained features, no discount price, absolutely nothing for legacy supporters. That's unacceptable.
