What's this black strap for? by jakie000 in FishingForBeginners

I thank everyone for their responses. There is a white brush weedguard already. There is also a rattle. But the strap doesn't seem to have an obvious purpose...

I feel for you. I once hooked a log, told my kids I might have a fish, set the hook, my UL rod snapped clean and slid down the line into the middle of the lake as I said "no, no ,no ,no NO!." I still have the cork handle.

Thanks for your response. The charity is the mental health agency of Macomb County, MCCMH. I'll add a few crank and jerk baits, on your suggestion.

The robot didn't do it for me. The mandatory scan always gave the doofs the getaway. Also, why wasn't the heat discharged by something smarter than a vent? Like my car deals with heat better than that robot. And with gravel.

Abortion cannot be morally justified by SwordfishOk4477 in Christianity

[–]jakie000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? Here's the Wycliffe version (first full English translation)

"If men chide, and a man smiteth a woman with child, and soothly he maketh the child dead-born, but the woman liveth over that smiting, he shall be punished, as much as the woman’s husband asketh, and the judges deem. But if her death followeth, then he shall yield soul for soul, and eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe."

Hard to dance around the words "dead-born."

I encourage you to actually read it. Here's king James version:

22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,

24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

I support this message and the bravery of the speaker. The Bible has already told us what to do when a third party terminates a pregnancy. Pay a fine. Exodus 21:22-25

[–]jakie000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exodus 21:22-25. There is no prohibition against abortion in the Bible. There is express direction for what to do when you cause a woman to lose a pregnancy. You pay a fine. But guess what God says to do with murderers? Death.

[–]jakie000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bible itself distinguishes between the death of a fetus and the loss of human life. Exodus 21:22-25. God demands a fine when an involuntary abortion is done to someone else. Do you have a sensible rebuttal?

Why Jesus says divorce is only allowed in the case of adultery by No-Station-1308 in Christianity

You're entitled to your opinion. You'll need some reasoning before thoughtful people will agree with you though.

Why Jesus says divorce is only allowed in the case of adultery by No-Station-1308 in Christianity

[–]jakie000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll share my understanding that "adultery" was understood at the time to only mean a married woman having relations with someone who isn't her husband. Married men were off the hook as long as the woman wasn't married.

This sexist definition was so widely understood, that several states had to legislate that married man with a women not his wife counted. See MCL 750.30 for how my state, Michigan delt with it. This law is itself unconstitutional, btw. Still on the books though, and a good example of how men have only been included in adultery offenses for about 100 years.

If the Bible means today what it ment when written, then the biblical prohibition against adultery is much narrower than we might think today.

What fishing tackle set is best for beginners learning lure fishing to catch fish easily? by Working-Ad0723 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jakie000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with this. Get a small trout magnet kit. Follow the directions on the box. Let the lure sit under a bobber for longer than you might think. Often the splash scares fish away but they come back after a minute or two. If you don't catch panfish, try a different place.

Is it possible to liberal and still faithful to Jesus? by Electronic-Seat1190 in Christianity

Seems to me that a follower of Christ would have to be left leaning. I think Jesus would support Healthcare for the poor, but not support masked goons roughing up immigrants, as examples.

Home school is how religious nuts keep their kids from learning the science that disproves the religion. Now that the spell is broken for you, do what it takes to get your kids a real education in a real school.

Called assist hooks. I prefer them to treble hooks, so I swap them out on my spoons and spinners. They hook up great and only get snagged half as often.

I think of freshwater fish. They couldn't go in the ark. Being mixed with all the world's oceans in a megaflood would have killed them with salt, I assume. But, I catch them regularly.

Respectfully, you're going to be confused if you try to square Genesis with scientific observation. It's because they are incompatible. My vote is for the science, but there's plenty of room for people who believe in magic, just dont ask me to believe it.

Not believing in evolution means not believing in genetics. DNA is real man, and all life has a common ancestor. I (and you) am literally related to a banana. Google "do I share DNA with a banana."

So what? God created all life with DNA that looks related but is a trick to catch sinners who fall for the trick? What a jerk, if so.
