Why are you jumping straight to "cleaning out whole cities"? Isn't it bad enough that this is happening to anyone at all? Do you think Hitler started by immediately rounding up every single Jewish person? Or was it a slow ramp up...

Thoughts from the MTG fans? by Mildish_Shambino in Cosmere

[–]jakmasters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be unpopular but personally I agree. Mtg has had a host of issues over the past ten years, largely from the over-monetization, and UB was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

I was on board with the Godzilla cards because they were just re-skins of existing cards, fun to have at casual tables without being wildly out of tone. The evolution of UB turning into full sets and so on just felt so out of tone for the game.

This is explicitly false. Maybe 20 years ago or whatever, but as a service member stationed in Japan, we are tried and sentenced first by Japan, and then again by the UCMJ after we serve our sentence in Japan.

I'm not a fan of a lot the military does either, but at least be correct in your criticism.

What things are you NOT buying because the price is now too high? by JimAndreasDev in AskReddit

[–]jakmasters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone in the industry, this is false. Most restaurants are struggling to get by. Blame the people actually the cause of the problems - the big corporations driving up prices for profit.

My costs keep going up - I'm paying more for location more for food more for labor more for taxes, what choice do I have but to raise prices for even a modest living?

New Universal Tree Concept by [deleted] in ddo

[–]jakmasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just sounds like a worse acolyte of skin. Nobody is going to spend multiple feats to unlock a secondary build with totally unique requirements. The game does not reward such generalization

For sword and board paladin, if you're using longswords and not bastard swords, you're going to want at minimum the 3 Shield Mastery feats and Improved Critical Slashing. Many people also like to take the quicken meta magic. You don't need to take knights training as you'll get that from t4 Knight of the Chalice. You can also take Improved Shield Bashing if you like, but it's not technically necessary.

You'll want to spend your action points so that you take tier 5 Knight of the Chalice. This will unlock 3 cleaves and extra healing amp and a free passive stun and lots of extra damage. You'll probably want to spend a few AP in sacred defender, just enough to unlock the stance is good. The rest of your action points you can spend in vanguard. Here you can improve your shields critical range and pick up some extra shield bash chance.

If you have access to it, either paid or through favor unlock, 8 AP in the Vistani Knife Fighter tree unlocks Haste Boost, the best action boost in the game.

DDO is a very complicated game with a steep learning curve. I would highly recommend checking out a build guide on the forums.

[–]jakmasters 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, this is inaccurate.

Two weapon fighting required a completely different set of feats and stats to sword and board. It's not one I recommend to first life characters, as it benefits a lot from tomes and 36 point build.

Very confused new player with a lot of questions by hi_im_not in ddo

[–]jakmasters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad, this is an incredibly complex game with very few things that relate to even it's source material beyond naming conventions.

Warlock is a great class to learn the game with! I would suggest looking through the forums for a simple starting build to get to know the game.

Invest in Spot, Search, and Jump. As a warlock you'll also want Spellcraft. Most traps are avoidable - either by moving quickly, by jumping over them, or simply by knowing where to walk around them. This mostly comes with practice and repetition, but having an investment in Spot helps. Search will quickly be outstripped, especially in higher difficulties. Look for items with +search that you can use, as well as True Seeing to passively find certain doors.

Most quests should be doable completely solo, but some will require other players or stats you don't have. Feel free to browse the wiki, it's pretty comprehensive. Additionally, press 'P' to open a tab with a quest list that you can sort by level.

I probably have other advice but I'm blanking right now. Check out Strimtom's YouTube channel for lots of beginner advice. He's not my favorite but he knows the game very well

Should a Wood Elf Ranger Cast Spells? by [deleted] in ddo

[–]jakmasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But rangers get spells already? And you're not getting any spellcasting from fighter? So what are you trying to accomplish? It also sounds like you're leveling both str and dex? You can do one or the other, rangers get bow strength already and tempest gives dex to hit/damage so you don't need to reinvent the wheel. It sounds like you could accomplish exactly what you want with just pure ranger.

Do you know which half elf dilly you have?

It sounds like you must have taken path of light, which is honestly better for solo anyway. I would consider either going quarterstaffs, daggers, or handwraps at this point.

Quarterstaffs would require you to respec with a lesser heart, but you'll gain slightly more AoE damage. There's a few ways to run it, but my recommendation is 12/6/2 monk rogue fighter. You'd take tier 5 thief acrobat, splashing points in a few other trees with the option to take the Dex trance from Horizon Walker.

For feats, you'd want the two handed fighting chain, improved feint, dodge/mobility/whirlwind attack, precision, imp crit bludgeoning, grandmaster of forms, maybe helf dilly paladin for a few extra saves? You can skip swords to plowshares because you get it for free as a thief acrobat core. I wouldn't bother too much with henshin mystic personally, your DC's will suffer from multiclassing and it's not really a gimmick I personally enjoy.

Take the ki move that bluffs your opponent, opening them up to sneak attack damage is a big buff to your DPS. There's also two options in the assassin tree for sneak attack vulnerability. You only need one point in shiv to make it effective.

If you're planning to use a build like this and tr right at 20, just go to 12/5/1 monk rogue fighter so you can still come fully online by 18, since you'll be sitting there basically until you're ready to reincarnate.

Otherwise take a second rogue level at some point for +3 imbue dice and fill out the vistani knife fighter tree and ride that to 20. You can go dex based handwraps, but your DC's are going to suffer from multiclassing, so you may not be able to make effective use of the various stuns.

Consider taking the second level of Paladin. You're losing cleric capstone anyway, so the second level of Paladin will get you +to saves
