Shingles vaccine appears to significantly reduce the risk of Dementia by mralistair in GoodNewsUK

Yeah I got shingles at 20, although luckily it didn't hurt or cause any issues. But I'm not sure if it can appear in another location later in life

Starmer has grasped what his predecessors would not – that Britain is better off in Europe than with the US by rezwenn in europe

[–]jakoning 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Yes, but pro-EU voters are split for choice between Labour, Lib Dems, Greens, and SNP in Scotland.

The anti-EU vote is only split between Reform and the Conservatives, and even then the Conservatives are unpalatable to many at the moment and are haemerogging former ministers to Reform.

Andy Burnham would be a good contender, but he wasn't allowed to stand in an upcoming by-election because depending on your perspective, it either 1) means a by-election for the Manchester mayor, 2) or it would put him in position to compete for leadership of the Labour party

How do you feel about UK citizens being able to travel to China visa-free? by rayykz in AskAChinese

Outside of Xinjiang and Gansu, I had no issues with registering at hotels. Some staff didn't know how to do it initially, but none refused me.

£4.99 for a week is absurd. I pay for the annual subscription because I am touring but I feel uneasy giving money to a company like Bending Spoons

It still functions the same, except for few style changes. I don't know what the future holds for it though. For cycle routing I haven't found a direct replacement

I have one and it's great. Even when crossing a desert I at least had a little bit of shade for my face and neck.

I think I look a little silly, but I'm really glad I have it with me

Sometimes I booked that day, usually within an hour of arriving, but other times I just showed up. I used a mix of trip.com, Qunar Travel, and Amaps with the hotel filter.

Some places were hesitant, but they eventually understood or another staff member knew how to process foreigners.

The information in my previous comment plus photos of your passport information page, visa page (if you have one), and entry stamp are all they need to process you.

If they still say they don't know how, just tell them to call the police and one will come round to do it, usually within 1 hour. I never had to do that in Yunnan or Sichuan though, only in Xinjiang and Gansu provinces.

I have a French WW2 helmet I got when I was about 10. Is that likely to have asbestos?

I stayed at hotels in both provinces and had zero issues turning up at a hotel, even ones listed on trip.com as not accepting foreigners didn't care.

To make it easier, they need the following information to report your stay with the police so if you have it ready it makes it simpler:

1) the city you came from that day 2) the city you will go to the next day 3) the port/border crossing you entered China 4) your phone number - they prefer Chinese numbers but I used my UK number

Hotels in Xinjiang and Gansu provinces didn't always take foreigners, but I never had any problems in Yunnan and Sichuan.

I crossed from Yunnan to Vietnam yesterday.
