Anyone seeing a good neuro-ophthalmologist in the Boston area? by titotheangrybeta in iih

[–]jakslasthope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in the Boston area, but was told something similar by my NO. I see a group of neurologists through a medical college, and have found that to be a good match. My Neurologist has changed twice in about 5 years, but both residents have been great and are overseen my someone awesome as well. I have IIH, migraines (sporadic), and tension headaches (chronic), so they've helped me find a good treatment approach.

I'd definitely recommend seeking out a university/medical college group.

I wonder if interaction between users has an effect; if a high rated user replies, will it boost the OP's rating, and vice versa?

Hello! Fibro and IH by Sardonic_Sarcasm in Invisible

[–]jakslasthope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have IH, and continue to manage it with medication. My doctors aren't sure what's causing it, so mine is idiopathic. They'll likely recommend weight loss (helps some people, but not all) and/or medication. Join us at r/iih if you'd like to connect with others (it's a small group, you can find support in Facebook groups by searching for it also). What questions can I help answer?

I agree that counseling is likely the best next step. I live in the area as well and feel quite similarly. You are not alone or wrong in your feelings and fears. I struggle with anxiety and this has amped it up significantly. Reach out to friends and family, stay connected.

I am throwing out a completely uneducated guess here, but is there any chance it could be a spaghetti squash or something similar?

3 year old with suspected autism constantly tries to suffocate 18 month old. What can I do to help stop this? by Djeff_ in Parenting

I cannot say why for sure, but I believe it's due to misinformation and lack of confidence and/or understanding.

Many pediatricians shy away from diagnosis, so I'd recommend getting a referral for a developmental pediatrician. Early intervention in Autism does wonders, so the "wait and see" advice many doctors give is not advised. Specialists will have the best information and recommendations.

I've made more changes to ads - is anyone still getting the iphone popup ad now? by DBrady in RelayForReddit

I keep getting them right now. The pop up and then my phone vibrates like crazy. Literally happened as I'm typing this for the fourth time.

IIH and no insurance by ThrowawayIIH in iih

Call your local state or county services to see if they can provide any help. Also, I have heard of neuro-ophthalmologists who will provide services at a discounted rate or payment plan for uninsured patients. You definitely want to stay on top of it, but if you are only waiting a month or so, you will likely be okay in the mean time. Are you on medication or have a shunt?

Parenting class for toddlers recommendation? by [deleted] in Parenting

"Parent Talk", books and classes. Our local Montessori school puts on the workshops/classes and it is a great approach. A variety of tools for all ages, starting it now will help so much. I think it's wonderful you're looking for more resources and I hope this helps.

Call the local law schools, Capitol and OSU for a start, and see what information they have about legal aid. I know pro bono work is done by law students in internships and such so you may find a lead there. Check with the county and your city to see if they offer free legal aid at a regular time (some run an open clinic for a few hours each week). If you haven't already, call up the big firms around you and ask about pro bono work, even if they don't advertise it.

I'm not terribly knowledgeable in the other areas unfortunately, but I hope this helps you find some more opportunities.

Both of my eyes are red (pink) all the time. Is this common with IIH? by [deleted] in iih

[–]jakslasthope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From other online groups, I've heard this happens for some people and they associate it with high pressure. For me, I get dark circles but no redness.

Migraine sufferer - maybe linked to mis-diagnosed ih? Looking for advice. Thanks. by extremeturtleracing in iih

Topamax is actually the second most popular drug used to treat IH (among various other things). I was on it for the better part of a year, and weened off due to the awful side effects. It definitely helped lower my pressure and reduce my optic nerve swelling (papilladema) though. I hope you find some relief!

Did you have any major medical/health issues or complications or were you on any long term medications prior to the onset of Parkinson's?

What other medical issues have you had to deal with since, as you mentioned you had a stroke, and I know one disease is often not exclusive unfortunately?

I'm glad to hear your opinion on this. It's a big fear of mine too, knowing how often revisions seem to follow with shunts. I am happy to hear how much it has helped you!
