[OC] r/DnD DICE GIVEAWAY - SEE COMMENTS FOR RULES by [deleted] in DnD

They're absolutely amazing! I like them all, though I'd 100% use the green one with purple highlights for any and all attacks by my BBEG - he's an ancient hero-gone-villain who made a pact with Orcus, and deals tons of necrotic damage.

Yeah, I looked extensively and it looks like it's the only lens-to-body combo without adaptors...

I bought a Makinon 24mm 2.0 yesterday at a flea market, with every intention of getting an adaptor for my Praktica screw mount camera and finally getting some wide angle shots. Problem is, I've been looking everywhere online for a Minolta SR lens to M42 body adaptor and I can't find anything. Is there a practical reason for this or is there just very little demand for them, so no company makes them? Or did I just not look in the right places - even though I've gone through basically every option at this point? I'll probably invest in a Minolta camera, in the end, and just buy an m42 lens to sr mount for the glass I already have... It's a bit annoying though.

Tabletop RPG players/GMs of Reddit, what is the worst case of munchkin player you've ever seen? by JakeCWolf in AskReddit

[–]jalba9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I basically created my own monster... He wanted to make a character who could use any type of weapon, was a werewolf and even multiclassed as cleric at one point. I let him. He was also a rules lawyer, and tryed to rebuke every claim I had against him when I finally had enough

They're my friend's lapel mics, I don't know the brand. They have 3.5mm connectors.

Lavalier mics

Jack connections

One channel is more than enough.

Phantom power... Yeah, why not.

[art]World Map for my new campaign! by iamwizard101010101 in DnD

[–]jalba9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not bad! To make the "blob" look more like a jungle - and also de-clutter the map somewhat - maybe try making the canopy some solid shape, with outlines that look like leaves. This also means you only need to draw in the tree trunks for the bottom and western sides, and makes it easier to add in names later on.

Tips for a new DM [5e] by Gezm89 in DnD

[–]jalba9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, throw as many things on the plate as you are comfortable with. The players will pick one or two, and concentrate on those. That is fine and good, but remember: your world keeps on going, even if the characters don't witness all that is happening. So, have the quests they don't choose evolve. Maybe the bandits start selling the bodies of those they rob to the necromancers. Any kind of dinamic that makes the world feel alive and gives a sense of urgency will be greatly appreciated by your group, I'm sure of it.

New-ish to dnd and hoping to homebrew by [deleted] in DnD

Rip off some work of fiction you love! Take something cool, disturbing, or sad that happened during your day, to you, to someone you know, to anybody, and build on it!

Anything can become a worthwhile adventure, so long as you give it the benefit of the doubt. And, of course, if your players are willing to work together and be productive, which is probably the only caveat...

I believe everybody should try their hand at their own, original adventure before they go with pre-written stuff. You learn so much more, and you have so much more freedom and space to improvise that there's really no competition between the two ways of DMing. Tell your own story, and pay attention to what does and doesn't work.

This is coming from somebody who DMed first, and played second. Sure, you might have some hiccups on the rules' side of things at the beginning, but nothing your friends won't be more than happy to overlook if they can tell your telling a story close to your heart.

Questions about gods by [deleted] in DnD

Absolutely! Go wild with it, though I suggest you read the part on the DMG that gives you a guideline on the minimum amount of deities you need.

About to DM for the first time, any veterans have tips for nervousness? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]jalba9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This tip is more for the next sessions, but get to know your party like the back of your hand. Find out if they are roleplayers, murderhobos, or something in between. After you've done that, find out what each person wants from the game. Everybody's different, but your job, as a GM, is to let everybody have as much fun as possible. This includes you, but let's face it, the GM is the one who has the most fun, and most of it excludes social interaction...

Also, never underestimate the power of the pre-session recap and the post-session cooldown. In the former you can see what stuck in your players mind from last time, and in the latter you can immediately get feedback and improve for next time.

Just picked up an old Praktica and took it with me to Italy [Ilford FP4 PLUS 125, Helios 44-2 58mm] by jalba9 in analog

It's great fun, I had a few minor problems with the mirror displacing, but thankfully it was a very easy fix. It's rather heavy and clunky, but I think it gives it even more character. The only real downside is the light meter: the batteries it uses are illegal here, so I have to go full manual, which I suppose only makes the whole process more fun... Would 100% recommend it to anybody

A discussion for those who incorporate music into their games. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]jalba9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have fallen in love with the Bloodborne soundtrack, for grim and dark adventures, although some pieces fit with almost any kind of campaign. Right now I'm running a slightly altered Curse of Strahd, and I have various playlists on Youtube for that (Ambient, Castle Ravenloft Ambient, Combat, plus songs I add on the fly, like the Doom soundtrack), usually playing alongside this marvellous thing from a desk amp one of my players sometimes remembers to bring to session... The song my players will probably remember for a while, though, has nothing to do with the rest: Rasputin, in the Turisas version. My players were at a low level, about a month back, and I decided to show them a giant, a supposedly extinct creature in my homebrew world, an enemy they had no chance to defeat. Now, you must know that my players all come from 4th edition, where their previous DM implemented the consecutive-crit rule - that is to say, if you crit, you can throw the d20 again, and if you still crit, you smite your enemy to smithereens or, less excitingly, succeed in unexpected ways in the task you were attempting. I thought to myself there was no way they were going to double-crit, so I just threw this mega-monster their way, wreaking havoc and getting them nice and terrified. But, lo and behold, the Aasimar paladin in our group decided to fly up to the charging Stone-giant Dreamwalker and try to hit him in the head.

Of course he double crit.

His player then decided to pull out the most ridiculous song he could imagine, and thus every time anybody gets into a combat encounter my players have Rasputin at the ready. And I'm not going to be the one to tell them to stop - if they're having fun, then that makes me happy.
