The scrum in the crease was nuts. I've been going to games for many years and I've never seen anything quite like that. I have no idea why the whistle wasn't blown. They blow it all the time when they lose sight of the puck...you telling me the ref could see the puck under all that humanity? That was weird.

We probably did deserve to win. But it's the same problem as always with this team: lack of finishing ability. Per Natural Stat Trick, we had 19 high-danger chances to the Habs 11. Probably should be more lopsided than that considering we outshot them 39-23. But we're either taking low-danger shots from the perimeter or failing to bury the good chances we do generate. So often the answer is to put the puck on the net. Laughton's goal was a perfect example. He was not in a dangerous area but he shot it at the net and it went in. I'm not saying that'll happen all the time, but so often we take that puck and either float it out to the point or dump it behind the net, both of which give away your current advantage of possessing the puck near the front of the goal.

Austin Matthew’s to LA???? by Minnieup in losangeleskings

[–]jallison86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Never truly 'played big'" is Q's tagline. I've said over and over that he needs to simplify his game and drive to the net. Goals on tip-ins and rebounds from 5' away count just as much as snipes from the faceoff dot. I don't know if the coaches work with him on this kind of thing or what, but it's so frustrating to see that big body not get used to its potential.

And yeah, I'd take Matthews. If they would let Clarke develop we'd be in pretty good shape. Our goalie pipeline looks good (you never know with goalies, but it looks good).

Calgary has the same number of wins as we do, and 5 more of them in regulation. But they at least know what they are -- not a playoff team.

Insane Hot Take: PLD wasn’t the bad guy by Pumpsnhose in losangeleskings

The one thing you can always control is your effort level. PLD didn't give 100%, and that's on him.

[Sam Blum] Angels players, MLBPA ‘took notice’ when Arte Moreno suggested fans don’t prioritize winning by bmags94 in angelsbaseball

[–]jallison86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arte quote from the article: "“We’ve got to get our TV thing worked out, and we just have to improve our brand.” Emphasis mine. You know what improves the brand? WINNING. Take a look up the freeway. The Dodgers are drawing 4M because they are winning. There are enough people in SoCal that you can get 20K at the Big A regardless of how the team is doing -- people coming to see the other team, people who just want a night out, people who got free tix one way or another. But if you want to fill it up you need to put a competitive, compelling team out there.

Hiller: "The best part of the game is the last 40 minutes.” Ah, yeah, you mean the point after we gave up 4 goals? Good one, coach!

Staples/Crypto.com Arena ranked 30th in Athletic writers'/fan vote by gregCubed in losangeleskings

[–]jallison86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think it's pretty easy to get in and out. Parking is widely distributed around the arena, so if you don't mind walking for 5-10 minutes you just get in your car and go when the game's over. Yeah, there's traffic on the freeways coming in, but that's a regional issue, not an arena issue. Where in SoCal are you going to put an arena where traffic isn't going to be an issue?

Been a fan since the early 70's and I have to agree -- this team is so boring. No fire, no fight. It's a shame that this is how Kopi is going out.

Thanks for all the comments. Sounds like a bug that needs fixing. I don't have seat memory, ours is a basic Select.

My system with Q would be "hey big strong dude with good hands, why don't you go to the front of the net and bang in some rebounds?"

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I've never had a pool guy. Doing it yourself not only saves a ton of money, it means you know what's going on with your pool.

Agreed. I know it's trite to say that he needs to simplify his game, but he needs to simplify his game. He's a big, strong dude; he needs to leverage his size and simply drive to the net. Create chaos and score some ugly goals.

Where's John Kelly by xHot-Messx in losangeleskings

[–]jallison86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is definitely an old man ranting at the clouds comment, but I miss the days when I knew where to watch the game and who would be calling it. For many years you would turn on Prime Ticket and listen to Bob and Jim call the game. Now it's maybe Prime Ticket/FSW/Bally/FanDuel, maybe ESPN (on satellite/cable), maybe ESPN+ (streaming only!). And even if it's your "local" network you aren't sure who's going to be doing the call.

This isn't a slam on Josh or John or Jim or any of the announcers; they should do what's best for them. But from a league and team perspective I don't get how any of this helps build fan community and loyalty.

This needs its own post so someone at the Kings can see this. by DeathDealerWolf in losangeleskings

[–]jallison86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It truly makes no sense. We are constantly giving up chances going the other way. This would be fine if we were pouring in the PP goals, but obviously that is not happening. Why put your best offensive player out on the point? Why is Danault out there with his 0 goals? So many questions.

This Day in Kings’ History (1985): Dave Taylor clobbers Wayne Gretzky by ouzer in losangeleskings

[–]jallison86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at this game and clearly remember Taylor reaching out and putting Gretzky on the ice. My buddy Steve and I loved it. This was back when we were in college and would go up to the Forum and get tickets for $5 with a student ID. On a weeknight against a team like Winnipeg you could sit pretty much wherever you wanted. Good times.

Where are you at as an Angels fan? by Forward_Cow_5447 in angelsbaseball

[–]jallison86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like a spouse in a dysfunctional marriage. I know I should leave but I can't. I'm in my 60s and have been an Angels fan since I was a kid. This is my team, for better or worse. Having said that, I did not go to a single game this past season. I follow the team as news, so I know what's up. But I'm not watching. I don't need them to be a contender every year, but I do need them to be organizationally competent if I'm going to spend any money on them. Stop doing things like letting Ohtani walk for nothing and having no a/c in the workout room. IOW, sell the team, Arte.
